| Between the Buried and Me – The Grid Lyrics | 6 years ago |
Singer Tommy Rogers explained in an interview that Chris Cornell's suicide influenced his lyric writing and the story of Automata, particularly in "The Grid". (The interview: https://youtu.be/ptW3CfYX_48) So the lyrics "Distinct cries for help rain down" feels like a hint at Cornell, crying for help when depressed. Also "Please don't wait up for me I've finally locked the door Please don't wait up for me I can now move on" could be how a person thinks when they've decided to take their life. |

| Turnover – Super Natural Lyrics | 7 years ago |
I think it’s about the singer’s girlfriend and his new lifestyle. In a YouTube video by Run For Cover Records (“A Day With Austin Getz of Turnover”) he talks about him and his girlfriend being vegans, washing their clothes by hand, collecting wood for their wood stove for winter time, and going through the woods to a sort of hidden beach where they like to hang out with their dog. Basically connecting with nature and living independently. “It’s something supernatural, I’m feeling super natural” - The way he is one with nature/the food he eats makes him feel out of this world. “I don’t know how but I can say, that I found my religion” - his religion being veganism. “When nothing was ahead of us that week in California” - maybe he was in California with his girlfriend when they got inspired to change their lifestyles. |

| Turnover – Take My Head Lyrics | 7 years ago |
It’s a really interesting song to me, as it’s so upbeat but has such dark lyrics. My general interpretation is that the song is about depression and thoughts of self-harm and suicide. “I want to paint my drain with a little red stain tonight” sounds like he wants to cut and draw blood that goes down the faucet/shower drain. He thinks of cutting his brain into hemispheres and smashing his face to get rid of the bad feelings. He wants the house to burn down with him inside so he doesn’t have to feel sad anymore. “Rest my head just a little longer, I don’t care what time it is” - A common symptom of depression is feeling tired and not being able to get out of bed. Falling asleep with the tv on could be something he finds comfort in. If the tv is on he has something to focus on, so he doesn’t have t be alone with his dark thoughts. “And I don’t want to feel so badly for all the things I said and never did” sounds like he promised a lot of things that he didn’t actually live up to. Maybe he promised his partner to be better but he still acted the same, which led them to break up and him to fall into depression. |

| Trivium – The Sin and the Sentence Lyrics | 8 years ago |
I see this as a song about religion, perhaps Christianity, and avoiding going to hell. "You better practice your words, you better practice your lies" could be about either not believing in God but pretending to do so, or about being a believer who commits sins. The "sin and the sentence..." parts seem to be about what it's like in hell. |

| The Dillinger Escape Plan – Wanting Not So Much to as To Lyrics | 8 years ago |
| I think it's about life in general: all the ups and downs that you have to deal with, and making realizations about the past. | |
| The Dillinger Escape Plan – When I Lost My Bet Lyrics | 8 years ago |
I think it's about singer Greg Puciato's relationship with Jenna Haze, and her job as a porn star. "Fill you up with all that you can take" "You're getting it for sure, your clothes all over the bedroom floor" "On your hands and knees so you can take all that you can" These are quite self-explanatory. "Never mind, just get out" is his plea to her to find a different line of work. |

| Alter Bridge – Island of Fools Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| Oh and "Island of Fools" is the U.K. | |
| Alter Bridge – Island of Fools Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I think it's about Brexit (Britain exiting the EU). "Just save yourself" refers to them leaving in order to get themselves together, without further thought about the other members of the EU. "And time will tell if you're meant to survive on your own" means we'll see if Brexit really was a good idea. They've sort of isolated themselves through it. |
| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Goodbye Angels Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I agree with 60_miles_an_hour, it's about his ex Helena Vestergaard. I think it's a really beautiful song, and very mighty in concert. My favorite lyric is "Somehow you made your way to my decade". I'm in a similar situation right now (not as extreme age difference though) so this song really gets to me. |
| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Sick Love Lyrics | 9 years ago |
The "sick love" refers to how many people feel about the relationship between a 50 year old man and a girl around 20. I particularly like the lyrics "Rivers get connected so much stronger than expected" and "Your heart is stronger than your head". He knows it's far from an ideal relationship, but he can't help it, they've got too strong a connection for them to ignore it. |

| Tremonti – Rising Storm Lyrics | 9 years ago |
It was supposed to be called "Lay to Waste", but "Rising storm" was the first note Mark Tremonti had written down, and they stuck with it though the mastering. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLz9_MAcD6c |
| Tremonti – Dust Lyrics | 9 years ago |
Tremonti said the following in an interview: "Dust, the title track is my favorite song on the album. It's a song about a friend losing confidence in you and kind of walking away, and you being kind of heart broken about it. It's one of the most emotional songs on the record, and probably like I said my favorite, probably my favorite solo on there as well." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLz9_MAcD6c |
| Tremonti – Arm Yourself Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| Stay alert and be ready for more attacks. Fear nothing! | |
| Tremonti – Flying Monkeys Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| It seems to me that it's about trying to forget the past, and keeping a lie in order to keep peace. | |
| Tremonti – My Last Mistake Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I think this song is also about Scott Stapp. I want to point out that I don't think Tremonti would hurt Stapp, the lyrics are merely thoughts or wishful thinking. "I am every bone in all your body I am every sound you make I’m at every turn I’m every chance you take You provide the loss that builds inside me Dreadful every time you wake You’re my reason why You are my last mistake" Stapp/Creed was made famous because of Tremonti's guitar playing and songwriting, but Stapp takes credit. Tremonti made a mistake by letting Stapp in. "Pull me inside, draw me nearer And you will meet your end I swear that this time I will justify Until I flee again" If Stapp lures Tremonti back (Creed broke up in 2004 but reunited in 2009, hiatus since 2012), it won't end well for Stapp. Perhaps he'll turn the situation around before he strikes. "I’m your fatal wound You’ve landed too far Lost out there without a trace I’m your last goodbye I’m the one who’ll take your place" Stapp made a mistake when he thought he could fool Tremonti. He's gone too far, and has been forgotten or forgotten. Tremonti is still doing great career wise, and has had two successful bands since Creed - but where's Stapp? "Just like tragedy Folks line up to see We forget and the problem’s gone It just ain’t right to move on" People love celebrity drama, and Creed's story has been quite eventful. It's not right to forget about things - actions must lead to consequences. |
| Tremonti – Betray Me Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I think it's about Mark Tremonti's relationship with Scott Stapp (singer of Creed). "A fragile thing thrown far from everyone Awakening, found strength but now it's gone Let us stay force fed and beaten down Tossed away, held down forever now" A fragile thing thrown far refers to Creed's break-up in 2004, and how getting together again in 2009 worked for a while but they eventually lost their spark. "How could you betray me Remember hope, remember faith, remember trust Defiant, controlling Another day, a new excuse, it's not enough" Tremonti feels betrayed by Stapp, who keeps coming with excuses but they can't justify his behavior. Stapp was diagnosed with bipolar disorder recently, so it might refer to that being an excuse for his extreme behavior over the years. "Reconcile, rebuild, begin to see The only hope, the one thing that's guided me Searching for one shred of dignity Holding close those few and far between" Tremonti and Stapp (and the rest of Creed) made up and started up the band again, but Tremonti began to see that Stapp hadn't changed. |

| Tremonti – Unable to See Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I think it's about social anxiety; you overanalyze, get hung up on small things, and generally have a hard time. The chorus still has a positive feel to it, both in how it sounds and the lyrics, like it will all work out. |
| Tremonti – Dust Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| Judging mainly from the chorus, it seems to me that it's about sudden abandonment - not necessarily by a partner, but by anyone you knew who acted as a cornerstone in your life. | |
| One Direction – Perfect Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| I think it's about being in a relationship that isn't serious, just for fun. If you want to do fun stuff you're not supposed to do, then the "I" in the song is perfect for you. | |
| One Direction – Loved You First Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| There's a theory that it's about Harry and Louis ("Larry Stylinson"). They loved each other first, and they want to be the one to take the other one out on dates etc. but they can't so somebody else has taken their spot. | |
| One Direction – Infinity Lyrics | 10 years ago |
It's about having lost somebody, and you keep lying awake at night thinking about them. Being without them feels like an eternity, time seems to move slower when you're not with them. You just feel lost, there's no hope for happiness. |
| Suede – Heroin Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| I think it's pretty self explanatory; he's hooked on smack and it's ruining his life ("you've taken everything"). He can't sustain a relationship or anything, and all happiness is gone. | |
| Tremonti – Cauterize Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I think it's about Jesus. The first verse is from Jesus' perspective: "I am the chosen, the true son, follow my rule to the word". He is God'd son and the rule is the New Testament. The chorus is from a Christian person's perspective. "Make us pure again" is in my opinion about penance and forgiveness or Jesus' crucifixion for our sins. "Take the sun and cauterize" is a metaphor for getting baptized in order to start a new chapter of life, one where you try to live without sinning. I am unsure of the rest. |
| Morrissey – Smiler With Knife Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| I think it's either about someone who pretends to be happy, but isn't actually happy at all, or someone who pretends to be nice but is hiding a knife behind their back, ready to strike. | |
| Morrissey – Earth Is the Loneliest Planet Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I think it's about feeling lonely because no one accepts you for who you are. "And humans are not really very humane". Humans only accept others if they are exactly how they "should" be. "And earth is the cruelest place you will never understand". People get frozen out of groups, beaten up, even stoned to death for not following the social rules. "But you failed as a woman, and you lose as a man". No matter how you act, you don't fit in as either a male or female. |
| Slash – The Unholy Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I am pretty sure it's about child molestation. In the beginning you can hear children's laughter. "Unholy, so vile ... One more sacred alibi ... It’s you that should be crucified" A priest/pastor does inappropriate things with children. People have trusted them because they have a sacred alibi (priest). Jesus died for our sins, but the sinning priest is the one who should be sacrificed. "What you did to them has nearly Torn us all apart" The community trusted the priest and now that the lie has been seen through the community is falling apart. "The broken, how they cry They only gave you heart and mind How can you justify? They loved you Now father, don’t deny You took them like a sacrifice We finally know the truth about you" Further supports my theory. The children (and their families) trusted the priest but he let them down by doing unholy things to them. |

| Blur – There Are Too Many of Us Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| If I'm not mistaken Graham has stated that it's about Hong Kong and how crowded it is, and that he was incredibly anxious while going on the tube there. | |
| Blur – My Terracotta Heart Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Graham told NME that it's about his and Damon's relationship: "I knew it was going to be an incredibly sad song, which is why I put the crying guitar on there. What I didn’t know at the time was that the lyrics would turn out to be about Damon and I, our long-term friendship and the ups and downs we’ve had." |
| Blur – Ghost Ship Lyrics | 10 years ago |
"I had to get away for a little while But then it came back much harder" He avoided something and when he eventually faced the problem it had grown and become even worse of a problem. "Will you be mine?" might be asking Graham to be his friend again. "'Cause I'm on a ghost ship driving my heart Home, come It's the last ride boarding here tonight ... Rat race" He's on his "ship" trying to get to Graham (heart home) and then asks him to return home with him. "Last ride" refers to it being a now-or-never thing. If they don't rekindle their relationship now it's too late. He's racing to get to Graham. |
| Blur – Explain Lyrics | 10 years ago |
"It's pointless to explain why There's nothing I can say ... It seems I can't be trusted And I don't disagree What made you think I ever really Wanted to be? ... And I don't know when I'm ever going to want to See her again" Seems to me that he cheated on someone. He can't explain himself out of the situation, he's just come to terms with that his partner found out. The second paragraph suggests he's not surprised he did it, he knew he couldn't keep away. "Her" in the third paragraph is the girl with whom he cheated on his partner. |
| Blur – Dancehall Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I don't think there's much depth to this song, just a story about a night in a dancehall. "I've got my pills" probably refers to ecstacy, which was commonly used at raves during the 90s. "With a vacant gaze" refers to how everyone's drunk and high. "My lips are frozen to another can I could kill him, but I just kiss his hand" He could stop drinking then and there but instead of throwing it away (killing him) he continues drinking (kisses his hand). |
| Blur – Bang Lyrics | 10 years ago |
"I don't need anyone But a little of your love can make things better" Probably means he wants to feels independent and like he doesn't need a partner, but that someone still has a place in his heart. They won't pay him attention or show love to him though. "Bang goes another day/year" means he's still thinking of that person and doesn't seem to be able to forget them. "Sitting on the early bus Passing through the morning rush It makes no difference that I'm not with you" He's on the bus thinking of that someone, and how it doesn't matter to that person that they're not together. Could be an ex who's over him, or someone for whom he hasn't revealed his love. |
| Blur – Badgeman Brown Lyrics | 10 years ago |
"Ways that turn and turn Which I what wed learn As suffering believers In the book of badgeman brown " If wed means wedded/married then I'm guessing that the book of Badgeman Brown is some sort of religious book, like a bible. "They're dropping like flies In a suburban house" I'm guessing that's what happens when you don't abide by Badgeman Brown's rules. "This is the voice of someone Calling from a lonely hill" is Badgeman Brown. |
| Blur – Bad Day Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| I think it's about a girl who isn't sure how to feel about anything. I imagine she just goes with whatever others say without thinking of what she herself feels. | |
| 30 Seconds to Mars – Do or Die Lyrics | 10 years ago |
"I don't wanna live a life That I believe Time to do or die" He doesn't want to live a regular life which is easy to believe (no amazing things have happened). It's time to do whatever you can in order to make your dreams come true, no matter what happens or if you die doing it. Fate is coming That I know Time is running Got to go ... Here and now Under the battle of every dream aloud Dream aloud" You have to take every opportunity you're given because time won't stop and wait for you to get ready. Don't be afraid of showing what you dream of, just do it and don't care about what others think of it. |
| 30 Seconds to Mars – Bright Lights Lyrics | 10 years ago |
"Bright lights, big city She dreams of love. Bright lights, big city He lives to run." He's probably referring to his old dream of going to LA to pursue his acting and musical interest. He's constantly wanting something, running around, never settling for what he's got. |
| 30 Seconds to Mars – Birth Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| He's referring to saving his brother from his drug use. He's lost in the drugs and can't find his way out of it by himself. | |
| 30 Seconds to Mars – The Race Lyrics | 10 years ago |
"You saved my life With blood and through sacrifice The lessons that I've learned I promise you I said Never again Never again No never" Seems to me that he's referring to his past drug use, where Shannon might've been the one who pulled him out of it, and then promised to never go back to that life. The "race" might be to get away from the the part of him that still wants drugs. "Love is a dangerous game to play Hearts are made for breaking and for pain I'm selfish and I'm cold" I feel that this is also about drugs. He's selfish in the way that he doesn't care about how his drug use affects the people around him, and therefore break their hearts when he keeps taking drugs. |
| Beady Eye – Don't Brother Me Lyrics | 10 years ago |
"In the morning I've been calling, I'm hoping you understand All and nothing, I'll keep pushing Come on now, give peace a chance, take my hand, be a man" He's reaching out to his brother Noel and wants to make peace. Considering they still haven't been spotted out together and things like that, these lyrics may just be wishes about what he would like to do but cannot for some reason, perhaps fear of rejection. |
| Suede – Obsessions Lyrics | 10 years ago |
It could also be some sort of reflection on his past drug use. According to Wikipedia the making of this album A New Morning was the first one during which no drugs were used. "Obsessions in my head, don't connect with my intellect" He's too smart to do drugs but he can't help his obsession/addiction with it. |
| Suede – Obsessions Lyrics | 10 years ago |
"Obsessions in my head Don't connect with my intellect It's called obsession Can you handle it?" I'm thinking either Anderson means that he's got deep obsessions with music etc. that people/partners may not be able to handle it because it consumes him so much, or he's referring to (tendencies of) OCD. "It's the way you close the doors of my car It's the stupid things you bought with my credit card It's the way you don't read Camus or Brett Easton Ellis Yeah the TCP you use, it stings when we kiss" Anderson might think that his friend/partner isn't as clever as him; small things that he thinks should be done differently (or "stupid things" not bought) are bothering him. He could also have a positive obsession with those flaws, which he doesn't understand ("Obsessions in my head, don't connect with my intellect). |
| Suede – Trash Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| I think Brett and his friends (or girlfriend?) were labelled as "trash".They've been called trash by people, who they probably think of as uptight and boring. Maybe they were more easygoing and didn't think much of appearance or what other poeple thought of their interests. | |
| Suede – Where The Pigs Don't Fly Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| I agree with chicken1 about Brett meaning he's doing something others think is impossible. He may be meaning that no one believed that he could form a band and become famous. | |
| Suede – Crack In The Union Jack Lyrics | 10 years ago |
"There's a great big crack in the Union Jack" The UK is falling apart (countries distancing themselves from each other, much immigration/less "real" Brits), according to those "lonely people" who said that. I don't know what Anderson himself thinks, whether or not he agees... |
