Rather die in your arms, than die lonesome
Rather die hard, than die hollow
The higher that I climb
The deeper I fall down
I'm running out of time
So let's dance while we're waiting

We will live longer than I will
We will be better than I was
We can cross rivers with our will
We can do better than I can
So dance while you can
Dance 'cause you must
Love out of lust
Dance while you can

Rather live out a lie than live wondering
How the fire feels while burning
For life is like a flame
And the ashes for wasting
So honey don't be afraid
To dance while we're waiting
We will live longer than I will
We will be better than I was
We can cross rivers without wind
We can do better than I can
So dance while you can
Dance 'cause you must
Love out of lust
Dance while you can

So tired of waiting
Come baby
So tired of waiting
Come baby

We will live longer than I will
We will be better than I was
We can cross rivers with our will
We can do better than I can

We will live longer than I will
We will be better than I was
We can cross rivers with our will
We can do better than I can

So dance while you can
Dance 'cause you must
Love out of lust
So dance while you can

Love out of lust
Love out of lust
Love out of lust

"We will live longer than I will" makes me wonder whether the story's about a girl who's dying of some terminal illness. That would explain the feeling of struggle in "we can cross rivers with our will" and "dance 'cause you must".

I just discovered this song. I'm blown away.

I believe this song is about doing something you know will have fatal consequences and though you are fully aware of these, you are still participating, cause you might as well live while you do it while you can. Might as well dance while you can. You know it is going to end someday - that destructive relationship, but why just be in it while you can?

    My Interpretation

The melancholy vibe of this song really hits me hard, but I'll leave out personal opinion to get to the point :P

To me, this song is about a relationship that burns bright, hot, and short. However, the feelings remain forever.

"-WE- will live longer than -I- will" is saying that, even though she (and, presumably, he) will eventually fall out of the relationship, their new found connection will never be lost. Most songs like this are about heartache when having to see the person again, but not this one. Even though the music is sad, slow, and reflective, her tone and word choice indicate that this is perfectly fine. They knew this would happen and, because of this relationship, they are able to still remain close after the break up.

Parts such as "so tired of waiting" and "dance while you're waiting" are just metaphors for how both people are aware of the dynamic of their relationship. Unwilling to wait for things to die off, they are going to make the most of it and enjoy the relationship as a joyous event.

    Lykke Li on the song:

“I wrote that one quite late at night, in one go actually, I feel like I’ve been simmering that feeling for a long time that you are in this kind of destructive relationship or affair whatever you would call it, a meeting; and you know that it’s never ever gonna work out but you keep on hoping but then you realize that, you know, this is life so you might as well dance while you can, ya know? Cuz it all it’s all gonna burn up anyway.”

I thought personally this song was that these lovers are in love and will be in love forever, but one feels like he or she might die soon. However, the love and they will keep going for eternity. They do say when you go to heaven you will live your happiest time in life for eternity.

Without a doubt one of the best songs on the album.

Onto the song, I feel that it's very tounge-in-cheek. The lyrics tend to be on an optimistic approach ("Rather die in your arms then die lonesome") side yet the instrumental and her vocals bring on the despair of the track. I'm going to have to agree with ananixon, it's most definitely about everlasting love, beyond the after life and as far as the universe goes.

    Song Meaning

To me, this song is about a girl who can't live without a relationship. She is driven by a pure need for companionship (even if it's unhealthy), because she doesn't feel whole or alive without it. It becomes an addiction that she gets a high from, but like any addiction, she finds it more difficult to abandon ("The higher that I climb, the deeper I fall down"). She feels as though while standing still and being alone, she realizes how quickly life burns away and how dismal it results, but if she becomes consumed with "dancing" in this relationship, life is more bearable.

i agree with this suggestion, she doesn't feel the lust for this person, but is willing to go with it, rather than being alone, this is the winner for me

    My Interpretation

i quite agree with ananixon, about this song is about a girl with terminal illness or something.

the feeling I got from this song is like a positive approach from someone who didn't have long to live and she wanted to spend remaining time that she had with her lover and by experiencing life.

maybe her lover felt reluctant spending time with her, cos he thought she better off going on with her treatment or whatever. so this song somehow like she was giving an explanation to her lover, giving him her point of view of why she want to spend her last time with his and that she didn't have long to live.

"rather die in your arms than die lonesome" "i'm running out of time, so let's dance while we're waiting"

"Rather live out a lie than live wondering how the fire feels while burning. For life is like a flame and the ashes for wasting. So honey don't be afraid to dance while we're waiting."

she reassured her lover that their love will be there even when she has gone away:

"we will live longer than i will, we will be better than i was we can cross rivers with our will, we can do better than i can so dance while you can, dance cause you must love out of lust, so dance while you can"

and when her lover still firm in his opinion, she was kinda tired explaining and said: "so tired of waiting, Come baby so tired of waiting, Come baby"

well, that was only my imagination and interpretation anyway :)

Complicate song, but to me it means that he fears true love and doesn't believe he can attain it. And if it's attained, it will probably lead to heartbreak so he spends time enjoying a life (metaphrically dancing throuh it) filled with lust knowing that it will never be true love. It's a temporary high for him and it's all he believes can be attained so he goes with it. In essence, he is a quitter because it's safer to take one day at a time and not aspire for real love that always fails (him). I could be way off, but that's what the song means to me.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
