There's a possibility,
There's a possibility,
All that I had, was all I'm gonn' get

Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm

There's a possibility,
There's a possibility,
All I'm gonn' get is gone with your stare
All I'm gonn' get is gone with your stare

So tell me when you hear my heart stop
You're the only one who knows
Tell me when you hear my silence
There's a possibility I wouldn't know

Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm
Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm

Know that when you leave,
Know that when you leave,
By blood and by me, you walk like a thief,
By blood and by me, I fall when you leave

So tell me when you hear my heart stop
You're the only one who knows
Tell me when you hear my silence,
There's a possibility I wouldn't know

So tell me when my sorrows over
You're the reason why I'm closed
Tell me when you hear me falling
There's a possibility it wouldn't show

Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm
Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm

By blood and by me, I'll fall when you leave
By blood and by me, I'll follow your lead

Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm
Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm
Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm
Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm

Note: The first part I talk about Twilight a little bit. But this is not my main intention so if you can get through the first paragraph you will see what I think it is about.

I think for some of these songs they help shape the idea of how a situation might feel. Like this song is describing the whole Bella/Edward thing. And when I understand it. I read the books. When I was at this point in New Moon it was so tragic reading about Bella's loss and feeling it as well. And like I said, I believe this is a great song to enhance the emotions of what was going on. But I read this silly romance series before I ever had my heart actually break. And I think my heart broke tonight finally after much weight on it for a long time. This song means so much more now listening to it.

Now I am going to use this as from a girl perspective but this song and emotions could easily apply for a guy as well.

I feel like he left. You can easily see that here:

All that I had was all I gon’ get
All I gon get is gone with your step

Now in my situation I made a mistake. I felt like there might be more out there and I left him. But now that I am out here, my mind always goes back to him, and I realize that although he is not perfect...he is perfect for me. I have this new appreciation for him. Who else will know me and love me as much as he did. So all that I had was all I was going to get. And now it's gone and I don't know if I can get that back. And for me it feels awful because I think I didn't see this until he was gone. But for anyone they can easily say that they feel everything they needed is gone because that other person is gone. And it is such a heartbreaking feeling.

So tell me when you hear my heart stop,
    You’re the only who knows
Tell me when you hear my silence
    There’s a possibility
    I wouldn’t know

Hearing this makes me want to cry because it is drenched in truth. When you are so close with someone and you know them so well you can tell by the slightest hint in their expression that something is wrong it's an amazing feeling. I had this with him and I feel so completely lost without it. Who else pays attention to me like that? Who else loves me so much that they know what's best for me more than I do. I feel like right now I am so torn up but no one will notice. The only person who would be able to make me feel better is gone. The only person who I matter to is gone. It's so hard to describe the real raw emotion in this song.

And I hate to use a Bella/Edward thing in this description because this is far more real than any authors characters could represent or portray but Edward had superb hearing. He could hear the literal beating of her heart. And when Bella's heart stops he would be the only one to know. But her actual heart didn't stop. It was the heart she feels emotion with. And it's just like that. When someone knows you so well that they would notice that...is gone...it's tragic.

I thought describing this song would be easier than it has been. I hope that some of my ramblings make sense and are true somewhat to the actual meaning. But this is what it means for me.

I hear different words than this has.

There's a possibility, There's a possibility, All that I had was all I gonn' get.

    mmmm....

There's a possibility, There's a possibility, All I gonn' get is gone with your step All I gonn' get is gone with your step

So tell me when you hear my heart stop You're the only one that knows Tell me when you hear my silence There's a possibility I wouldn't know."

    mmmm...

Know that when you leave, Know that when you leave, By blood and by me, you walk like a thief, by blood and by me, and I fall when you leave.

So tell me when you hear my heart stop, you're the only one that knows. Tell me when you hear my silence, there's a possibility I wouldn't know.

So tell me when my sorrow's over, you're the reason why I'm closed. Tell me when you hear me falling, there's a possibility it wouldn't show.

    mmmmm....

By blood and by me, and I fall when you leave. By blood and by me, I follow your lead.

    mmmmm....

Sometimes I hear : By blood and by mean, I fall when you leap... But alas, I can't really tell.

I like the "All I gonn' get is gone with your step" as if saying everything Bella had with Edward, and all the love she was going to have and the life she was going to have with him is gone with his step, as he is walking away from her.

The song shows the state of mind Bella was in after Edward left. "Tell me when you hear my heart stop, there's a possibility I wouldn't know" Bella was numb. She didn't notice the world around her. She was in a dreamworld. Life and death where the same thing to her because she had nothing left to live for. That's why she wouldn't know when her heart stopped, so to speak.

    My Interpretation

Sure, this is a touching song to describe Edward and Bella. I think it more describes an old couple. The wife is on her death bed breathing her last sighs of life. Her husband is sitting next to her and she's telling him to tell her when her heart stops, because it will always belong to him. She is saying that he's the reason why she's close to death because he's the only reason she survived. At the beginning the possibity is that all she has is all there is. She is thinking all she is going to get is gone with her lover's stare, and that's enough for her.

Just a really powerful, depressing, sad, emo, makes me feel like shit song.

this was a perfect song for new moon. i think that it represents edward and bella's relationship perfectly. when she says ''tell me when you hear my heart stop" she is talking about how edward can hear her heart beating because he is a vampire.

knowing the song is about vampires.....kinda reminds me when of a shy girl that has a crush on boy. everytime he appears, she freezes up, stops breathing, feels like her heart has stopped, feels weak- like she's falling, she's fading into him at the moment......cute song......"possibly"

Keep coming back to this song........Absolutely love it.............love the ticking of the clock and beating of the heart........vampires? Not to me.......much deeper metaphorical meaning and no one has mentioned it and never will because it's only dear to me.........

Furthermore, being around someone that your totally connected to such as a friend, loved one, etc and communicate by eye contact, body language, etc. without ever saying a word. Highly skilled to connect like that!!! Regarding a couple, if one can do this and the other cannot and are forced to, it's "Sweet Surrender", real powerful!!

to me this song sais so much.. i think it's about getting your heart broken, it doesn't really matter if it was because of cheating, or even death itself... but it talks about how someone is separated from their reason for living. It could definetely talk about the person thinking about killing themselves too..

This is how i understand the song:

"All that I had was all I gonn' get. " i won't get any better than you,

"All I gonn' get is gone with your step All I gonn' get is gone with your step" i won't have anything to look forward to, because you took my reason for living

"So tell me when you hear my heart stop You're the only one that knows" you know you broke my heart...

"Tell me when you hear my silence There's a possibility I wouldn't know." tell me when there's nothing left inside of me, because i might not realize it

"Know that when you leave, Know that when you leave," by leaving you know what you're leaving behind, you know what will happen to me...

"By blood and by mean, you walk like a thief," in every way, you know that you hurt me, and that you got away with it

"by blood and by mean, and I fall when you leave." you know i won't make it without you

"So tell me when my sorrow's over," tell me.. when will the pain stop?

"you're the reason why I'm close." (this could mean close as in near or as in closed, i like the second meaning...) you're the reason why i can't keep going i can't let anything good in anymore

"Tell me when you hear me falling," tell me when you finally see me hurt and snap

    "there's a possibility it wouldn't show."

"By blood and by mean, and I fall when you leave." i'll be psicially and emotionaly destroided when you leave

"By blood and by mean, I follow your lead." i'll leave too.. leave everything behind, end it.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

When We Were Young
Blink-182
This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
