Standing On The Edge Of Summer Lyrics

In this room
I'm sitting by your side
Cause it rains for hours
and the phone is off its hook
Standing on the edge, casting lots to set me up
before you knock me down,

summer's edge and drown me
Betting on our own lives,
making up for all time we lost
In this house of cards we're all holding hearts and spades (one breath, one step could knock it all down)
but you lead with your eyes and you give it away
(decide, design to cut from the clouds)
And the people you love get lost in the shuffle,
(When you leave, you leave nothing but broken hearts)
you let it go and then you fold

So we stay on the open road
We drive for hours and still no end in sight at all
Driving in your car, miss the stop sign, fall in love,
just to get knocked out

summer's edge and drown me
Betting on our own lives,
making up for all time we lost
In this house of cards we're all holding hearts and spades (one breath, one step could knock it all down)
but you lead with your eyes and you give it away
(decide, design to cut from the clouds)
And the people you love get lost in the shuffle,
(When you leave, you leave nothing but broken hearts)

Pull your punches and burn with your cigarettes
Pulled like a punch and burnt like a cigarette...forever

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”

That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So...

But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

This song is about the last time he saw his grandma, when she was dying. And it's about realizing how you may be young but your life could end at any given moment.

Thats what he says in the live recording.

Well, definitely this song is incomparable. It simply tells the events of my summer with the girl I loved.. We simply had the greatest days during summer, but when next season was about to come, the sweet moments we once had simply turned into sour. bitter.

I guess, this song is about that experience. I don't know but seems like it fits our situation before. Having the best days during summer, the love, the fun being with each other that suddenly changed as the season was also about to change.

This song is beyond amazing! You know what I mean. I could listen to it 24/7.
Thursday, thanks for this awesome music!

This song can be interpreted in different ways but it has a very specific meaning.

It is about Geoff's last visit with his ailing Grandmother who was dying.

He often explained this before performing the song live.

this song has so much poetic insight and i think it means different things to different people...to me its falling in love at bad times, in the wrong places, with the wrong people...but remembering...and it hurts to remember

this song is extremely poetic, and i agree with ska ally on it, but more of the fact that this was an old love, and pretty much giving advice to everyone who reads it, saying be careful who you fall in love with, becuz if u do one thing wrong, everything can fall apart, and vice versa.
