To me, this song is about a girl who can't live without a relationship. She is driven by a pure need for companionship (even if it's unhealthy), because she doesn't feel whole or alive without it. It becomes an addiction that she gets a high from, but like any addiction, she finds it more difficult to abandon ("The higher that I climb, the deeper I fall down"). She feels as though while standing still and being alone, she realizes how quickly life burns away and how dismal it results, but if she becomes consumed with "dancing" in this relationship, life is more bearable.
