| Siouxsie and the Banshees – Happy House Lyrics

|
Well, the song itself I think is about communism and communist countries. They're trying to present an image that everything is all happy here and there are no problems here when the problems are multiplying exponentially. On another level, it could be about being on stage having to entertain people when the world has a lot of bad things in it. |

St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church is in Austin Texas. The singer found a great woman there and wants to win her over but doesn't know how. "Tanked up on Elm Street" is about Elm Street in Dallas, Texas. In the 1980's and 1990's, there were several clubs in the area that hosted alternative bands. Naomi's, where the Old 97's made their debut, was there. (It's long since gone out of business though.) |

This is about a disastrous relationship ending up in divorce court. Talking to her is hideously complicated. The line "Blame it on plate tectonics" makes me think that this involves the subject of another of their songs "Victoria" as there they say "the earthquake shook her loose." |

| The Old 97s – Here's to the Halcyon Lyrics
| 1 month ago
|
|
Halcyon, for those of you who do not know, means "a period of carefree good times." In other words, the singer is using a metaphor of a ship sinking to the fall he had. He is regretting having had days where the booze flowed freely as it led him to disaster. He feels his only hope is to pray to God for salvation. |

One thing I remember a lot about this song was how much controversy it stirred up. Many video outlets refused to play the video, and several radio stations wouldn't play the song either. What's sad is that the situation can be applied to a lot of places since this song was released. |

| The Police – On Any Other Day Lyrics

|
The beginning of this song has some words that aren't part of the official lyrics. It goes like this:
"The other ones are complete bull$#|t.
You want something corny? You got it."
This Stuart-penned tune leans towards pure punk. Everything is going wrong for the singer on his birthday, no less. Wombats tend to dig large underground passages for themselves; thus, they're like Australian moles. They are also extremely territorial and will attack anything that invades their territory. Thus, this wombat is probably going to attack the singer when he returns home. |

At the time of this song's release, French radio had a policy of not playing anything that was not in French. FWIH secondhand (so take it with a grain of salt) Sting said he wrote this song to get a hit in France. However, that doesn't really hold water since there's a verse in English. |

It's pretty straightforward about the meaning. He wants to see his lover again before she leaves him for good and is asking the engineer of this steam engine to slow down to catch up to her. Fun fact: This one was written by Chip Douglas, often called the fifth Monkee due to his playing bass on some of their songs. |

The song really is about greed and how being greedy can cause one to miss out on fun in life. It can be likened to the end of the Charles Dickens' story A Christmas Carol, where Ebeneezer Scrooge realizes just what his greed has gotten him and changes his ways. Here King Midas (Not sure who this is exactly - maybe someone profiting off the Vietnam war?) also realizes that he cannot go back and change the past. |

| Neil Diamond – Stones Lyrics

|
This is kind of song that is very introspective and can be read on a multitude of levels. The stones here are a foundation of love. The singer is saying that he is coming to her so that they can build a solid relationship on a foundation of stone.
Some have suggested that the Stones though, were the Rolling Stones. I seriously doubt this, as the lyrics would read that he's stealing one of their girlfriends. Neil has always had great respect for the Rolling Stones and even covered a few of their songs. |

| Robbie Dupree – Hot Rod Hearts Lyrics

|
Well, since nobody else will do it, here's my take on the song. It's about an innocent love in an innocent time that gets ruined. The hungry sharks can be interpreted in several ways, but I think the best representation is reality and the economy. In 1980 when this was released, the US was sliding into a major recession that was on par with the recession of 2008. He seems to reinforce this view by saying "Times are hard for those hot rod hearts." In other words, it's good to have some sweet, innocent fun, but reality cannot be ignored. |

Well, based on what I'm seeing, my interpretation of it seems very wrong. I get the image of them sitting in a pub rooting for their favorite football (or some other sport) team, only to have someone who is a fan of the team's opponents cheer them on. Also, it could be the favorite team is losing. Watching football doesn't take a doctorate to do, and sometimes, you just want to have dead brain time to collect yourself. However, the video does give another idea: They're at a family gathering and either the same sports related thing is happening, or that there's been a very nasty argument. "Watch them play" means doing the argument to is foreseeable conclusion. |

This is NOT the lyrics to Heavenly. this is the lyrics to Heavenly Nobodies, a completely different song. Heavenly's lyrics could not be obtained at the time of the song's release because the vocals are whispered and the music drowns out what she's saying. About the only discernable line sounds like she's saying "And even in your darkest hours..."

A song that essentially tells you everything you've been taught is a lie. What kind of world are we handing our children? IIRC in the late 1980s or early 1990s, there was a report declaring that the current generation would be the first to receive a planet worse off than what their parents gave them. He's saying everyone should see just what kind of a raw deal they're getting. |

It's about the pressures of fame and trying to keep success going when you've hit the top. At the time of the release, The Go-Go's were considered very accomplished in the field of music, and the label is pressuring them for more top 10 hits. These pressures can really stress a person out. It also didn't help that there were some underlying things that were starting to tear them apart. I will also say that it really features each member of the band in a wonderful manner. |
