Hungry for You (J'Aurais Toujours Faim de Toi) Lyrics

Rien de dormir cette nuit
Je veux de toi
Jusqu’à ce que je sois sec
Mais nos corps sont tout mouillés
Complètement couvert de sueur
Nous nous noyons dans la mare
Je n'ai aucun désir
Tu as ravage' mon cœur

Tu as ravagée mon cœur

No matter what I do
I'm still hungry for you
No matter what I do
I'm still hungry for you

Rien de dormir cette nuit
Je veux de toi jusqu’à ce que je sois sec
Mais nos corps sont tout mouillées
Complètement couvert de sueur

I'm hungry for you
I'm hungry for you
I'm so hungry for you
I'm hungry for you
I'm hungry for you
I'm so hungry for you

At the time of this song's release, French radio had a policy of not playing anything that was not in French. FWIH secondhand (so take it with a grain of salt) Sting said he wrote this song to get a hit in France. However, that doesn't really hold water since there's a verse in English.

Those bastards in the Police conjugated avoir incorrectly!!! The subtitle should be "j'aurai toujours faim de toi," basically "I will always be hungry for you." Sure it's "mais non" and not "mais nous" in that repeated line?

It's "mais nous" - Sting just can't pronounce French for shit. But it's a great song. The French works well with the music.

Let's see now. 'Hungry For You (J'Aurais Toujours Faim De Toi)' proves that Sting's got a hideous French pronunciation, but heck, I've yet to meet an English-speaking person with a good French prononce. It kicks plenty much ass in the excitement department, though. [George Starostin]

English translation by Benjamin Vincent.

Nothing to fall asleep for, tonight, I want some of you, until I'm dry. But our bodies are all wet, Completly covered with sweat. We are drowning in the tide, I have no desire. You have ruined my heart, And I have drunk you blood.

But we can do whatever we want, I will always be hungry for you.

The whole world is mine, I won it in a game of cards. And now, I don't give a shit, I won it too easily. So that's it, beautiful traitress of mine I have to burn with jealousy. You have ruined my heart, And I have drunk you blood.

But we can do whatever we want, I will always be hungry for you

Actually, in response to morypcaina, the conjugation is likely correct. I've been trying to find information on originally intended translation but couldn't...however, it's possible that it was actually meant to be conditional. I personally translate it like this: You ravaged my heart I drank your blood But we can do what we want I would always be hungry for you But we can do what we want I would always be hungry for you

It's just a little change in nuance. Language is so much fun. ;)

Bizarre.

I love it how during the GITM-concert in Gateshead Sting points out that the reason it was written in French is because it's about a very delicate topic: f**ing! ; ) Anyway, that's probably the only Police song I never listen to because I just can't stand the French. There's a reason why very few rock songs are sung in French, it just doesn't sound good. ; ) It would have been so much hotter if the lyrics had been in English. sigh*

It's a song about sex sung mostly in French. I know everyone says every song is about sex, but this one really is!

Hopefully the comment above was meant tongue in cheek but I’m never sure when I read such things. I wouldn’t want to think that it’s so easy to become a language snob just because you managed to master French. I’d like to think that I learn something because I want to enlighten myself and not because I’m itching to strut around and clobber others who aren’t running quite as fast as I might be. At times like this, I like to think that peace—if it ever shows—will remain undercover because someone might attack it and have it for breakfast but then, I’m a dreamer …
