Q&A
The Lebanon Lyrics
She dreams of nineteen sixty-nine
Before the soldiers came
The life was cheap on bread and wine
And sharing meant no shame
She is awakened by the screams
Of rockets flying from nearby
And scared she clings onto her dreams
To beat the fear that she might die
And who will have won
When the soldiers have gone
From the Lebanon
The Lebanon
Before he leaves the camp he stops
He scans the world outside
And where there used to be some shops
Is where the snipers sometimes hide
He left his home the week before
He thought he'd be like the police
But now he finds he is at war
Weren't we supposed to keep the peace?
And who will have won
When the soldiers have gone
From the Lebanon
The Lebanon
The Lebanon
From the Lebanon
I must be dreaming
It cant be true
I must be dreaming
It cant be true
And who will have won
When the soldiers have gone?
From the Lebanon

Man I love this song. I can't believe nobody even put the lyrics up here. The meaning, I feel, is quite obvious. It's the view of war (more specifically in the Lebanon) from the view of two completely different people. The first is a woman, who sees the war as something ruining her life, which wasn't great to begin with, but better than during the war. The man is a soldier, who is there "fighting the war" for the wrong reasons. The lines "But now he finds he is at war, weren't we supposed to keep the peace?" really outlines this.
One thing I remember a lot about this song was how much controversy it stirred up. Many video outlets refused to play the video, and several radio stations wouldn't play the song either. What's sad is that the situation can be applied to a lot of places since this song was released.
@quamp i remember that too, the way people reacted almost made the message hit harder for me
