In an interview Dan Baird stated that the song was inspired by a night in a bar where their guitarist accidentally bumped into a woman in the bar on her arm. He apologized for this, but she immediately flew off the handle and accused him of trying to paw her. She demanded they throw him out, shouting "Keep your hands to yourself!" at him as they did.
This is a song that stood out compared to the other stuff on rock radio in its day as it is kind of country. It was also done by Hank Williams, Jr.
