| Tristan Prettyman – Simple As It Should Be Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I agree that it should be "complement" and not "compliment." It comes down to what it means. Is she saying "Come on baby, complete/match me" or "Come on baby, say something nice about me"? |
| Colbie Caillat – Brighter Than the Sun Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I guess I could see that, but Colbie seems more like one for mainstream references. | |
| Colbie Caillat – Brighter Than the Sun Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Correction: Chorus; "Oh, this is how it starts, lighting strikes the heart It goes off like a gun, brighter than the sun Oh, we could be the stars, falling from the sky Shining how we want, brighter than the sun" Second verse: "I never seen it, but I found this love I'm gonna feed. You better believe I'm going to treat it better than anything I've ever had Cause you're so damn beautiful Read it, it's signed and delivered, let's seal it Boy we go together like peanuts and paydays, Marley and reggae And everybody needs to get a chance to say" (The errors in this verse bug me more than any others. Who the hell is Molly? Maybe if it was a Beatles Ob-La-Di reference, but Marley is a much more obvious reference. And signed, sealed and delivered is another musical reference. And if it was "you better leave" instead of "you better believe I'm going to treat it..." it would contradict the entire song. Sorry. I'm just a bit nit picky at the moment. I do like the pop culture references in the song.) Bridge: "Everything is like a white out, cause we shaka-shaka-shine down Even when the when the light's out but I can see you glow Got my head up in the rafters, got me happy ever after Never felt this way before, ain't felt this way before I swear you hit me like a vision I, I, I wasn't expecting But who am I to tell fate where it's supposed to go?" And of course, I'm open to the fact that I might've gotten something wrong myself. |

| A Fine Frenzy – Near To You Lyrics | 14 years ago |
For me, it's about getting over unrequited love. Of course, it is because of my life experience. I was half in love with a close friend, and he enjoyed flirting with me. But then he started dating another girl, then marrying her. It hurt a lot. But now, I'm getting to know someone else. I could fall for this guy, but I've learned my lesson. I'm cautious. I'll only fall if he makes it clear that he'll catch me. It's taken a while to be over the first guy. I'm happy for him, and I don't pine for him. But the pain still hid inside of me, long after I partied at his wedding. I know someday, I will find the right guy. The first love will be fondly remembered, but never as good as the true one. |

| Jason Mraz – 10,000 Motherfuckers (Selections for Friends version) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I avoided this for a while because of the title. He makes "motherfucker" sound like such a tender word. I think that's one of his favorite words (see Collapsible Plans) | |
| Jay Brannan – Beautifully Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This reminds me of two of my really good friends. They liked each other, and started dating. She really saw a future with him, and thought that they would get married. After a couple months, he realized he just wasn't in love with her, and he didn't see them having a future. They broke up after 6 months of dating. She's over him, and I'm happy to see her looking at other guys as possibilities again. :) Like the last verse, there's hope. And that's a great thing. |

| Jaymay – What Happened Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This just might've become my favorite song. It reminds me of a situation I've been in that still haunts me. This is a very haunting song. | |
| Jaymay – One May Die So Lonely Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Wait. I made a mistake. "You might as well ask me if a hot day is hazy" | |
| Jaymay – One May Die So Lonely Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The lyrics are a bit off... "Is just what you just can't stand It can be your boy or a little old man" should be: "Or just what you just can't stand Be a boy or a little old man" (at least on the live version) "You might as well ask me if the hotties all hazy" should be: "You might as well ask me if hot days are hazy" |

| of Montreal – Don't Ask Me to Explain Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Penny in each eye reminds me of the whole death, crossing the river Styx belief. I don't know what that has to do with the song. I wonder if songwriters ever purposely write off the wall songs, and come on here to laugh at us. Not that this is off the wall, and I'm not sure that has anything to do with this song. Meep meep. |
| We The Living – Best Laid Plans Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I found more accurate lyrics for the song. It makes more sense than these ones. Who put's out the current and then calls "the show"? (No offense intended. I know how difficult it can be to guess the lyrics) If I have alarmed you, I didn't try I'm tongue tied I've got to be honest, I'm terrified to fly blind I tried to disarm you I played this part a thousand times The hunter's the hunted I'm terrified I'm open wide The distance is spanned between you and I Can I see you tonight? When the pen in our hands and our best laid plans Will stand alone on our side I wanted to have this under control The story told You came and rewrote it opened the door I've never known You say that you hold them, the sands of time You never lie They pull like a current I call to shore There's no reply The distance is spanned between you and I Can I see you tonight? When the pen in our hands and our best laid plans Will stand alone on our side And I never wanted anything like this before The distance is spanned between you and I Can I see you tonight? When the pen in our hands and our best laid plans Will stand alone on our side The bridges that stand between you and I Come over tonight When the pen in our hands and our best laid plans Will stand alone on our side Of mice and men on our side |

Wow. I never really thought about it like that. Thanks Jesus freak. I was kinda thinking it was random, because most of the other songs on SKYS has something to do with Dan's mom, or his cousin, or for his sister... SKYS was a pretty family oriented cd, wasn't it? |

| Relient K – At Least We Made It This Far Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I don't think it's so much as they've had problems, but he's been traveling a lot. So they CAN'T look into each others eyes when they say "I love you". I mean, the song starts out with "I'm so tired of the phone." I think that he fears that she'll have a problem with his traveling someday, and he's afraid that he'll lose her because of it. But there's also a lot of hope- "I guess we made it, cause it ain't far to go from here." I wish this song was written for me... I'd just be like "oh, believe me, I won't let go..." lol |
| Relient K – I Just Want You To Know Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I really like the first verse... but after that, it's not a strong message. There is a message, but... I don't know. They've done better. But it's a good song overall. | |
| Relient K – The Lining Is Silver Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Bones in the closet sounds like a reference to the whole skeletons in the closet. I think it represents problems from the past. And who wouldn't want new black shoes while dealing with their problems? :) Matty T often refers to running away from problems, so I think this song is about just sitting down and dealing with it. And just realizing that life isn't perfect, but it's not the worst thing. I get the original, but the "can't see the forest for the cemeteries" is a little weird. It could just be bringing up the bones/skeletons thing again, as bones belong in a cemetery and not your closet. |

| Relient K – Five Iron Frenzy Is Either Dead or Dying Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Well, yeah. Getting Into You's allegory was fairly hard to figure out. (sarcasm done) But no. People who say RK isn't christian anymore don't look (or listen?) beyond the surface. Or maybe they don't want to hear the message the guys are getting across. RK just gets better and better. |
| Relient K – Where Do I Go From Here Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I connect with this song... Saaad. The way I see it, it's about wanting to run away, but you end up going back to face your problems. But is it healing if you just don't feel anything? They seem to have the same problem I do, with avoiding problems. "I So Hate Consequences" has the same theme. "Apathetic Way to Be" mentions just not caring. I love how you can connect to RK's lyrics, no matter what you're experiencing. yay. |

| Switchfoot – This Is Home Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Was it written FOR the movie? Because then it could fit into some Prince Caspian thing. But is "home" narnia or england? It could fit for Susan and Peter. They won't go back to Narnia, they can't go back to how it was. But if you don't think about the movie, I think it's a change of heart song. Like, this person was kind of a cynic, and was just searching for happiness everywhere and struggling. But when they relax, they see the sunset and have a new way of looking at things, they're home. They don't need to frantically search for happiness anymore. They can just relax because they're found a place or situation that makes them feel safe. |

It's so cute and so creepy. It's like... things are literally disappearing. The birds have no heads, darkness goes away. Cute. |
| Switchfoot – Head Over Heels (In This Life) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think it's for a girl [hopefully his wife. ;) ]. It could go either way, but this line doesn't make me think of God at all. "you’re the flower and the thorn" Marriage isn't just "lalala yay!" all the time. A spouse is both the best and worst at times. Marriage is loving them when they're the flower, and when they're the thorn. that's my thought on it. |
| Mae – Giving It Away Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm not opposed to it being about God, but this line pokes a massive hole in that theory for me. "If you'd be honest and say what you mean" um... How often does God lie? |
| Rooney – Blueside Lyrics | 17 years ago |
or what i said when i was an angsty, annoyed teen still stands. I'm going with what the songwriter said, and what a couple of people here have said. It's about showing the real you, a new side of yourself. Only when you quit faking it can you show yourself. |

| The Fold – Beside You Now Lyrics | 17 years ago |
from their myspace: "Hey guys, it’s Dan. Instead of posting the lyrics to this song, I’m gonna do something a little different. I’ve made it no secret that this is my favorite song off of SKYS, and I’m gonna use this space to explain why. This song was recorded in December of ’06, just a few weeks after my Mother suddenly passed away from an extremely aggresive cancer. The song is about the situation, so as you can imagine it’s insanely personal and close to my heart. If the lyrics seem confusing in that context, it’s because they’re sung from my Dad’s perspective, on the day of my Mom’s funeral. I lost a Mother, but he lost the love of his life, I couldn’t help but see the pain from his perspective. He stood there next to her casket all day and night, like he just couldn’t face the day without her, he couldn’t physically seperate himself from her. It was the most intense thing I’ve ever been through in my life. While we were recording this song, there was one point when the producers and myself (and maybe a couple band members, but they’re manly men so we’ll leave them out of it) found ourselves in tears. It was when I was laying down the vocal at the very end of the song. I see these words as a chorus of their own, the biggest tribute I could ever present to my Mother. All six of her kids and her husband all shouting out to her memory: "I’ve no regrets of yesterday, though these tears are falling I will look to you, I will still remember This will linger on, your memory deeper than the ocean..." |

| Landon Pigg – Can't Let Go Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I thought it was "just defied destiny", but it says on his myspace "justify destiny" I think most of the meanings are good. except on this: "'and it might not make sense to you or any of my friends but somehow still you affect the things i do and you can't lose what you never had i don't understand why i feel sad every time i see you out with someone new' >>> The first part of this makes it sound like she was nothing more than a conquest or trophy girlfriend, something he could brag about with his mates. Just like himself they never saw that he had any strong emotional feelings towards her. Now he regrets ever losing her and misses her." I think it's not that she was a conquest, or a trophy girlfriend, but no one understands why she still affects him. Nobody gets it. His friends are telling him to move on, that she won't like him again, etc. But she still invades his thoughts. that's what i got out of that part. and yeah, I connect with this song too. :( |
| Mae – We're So Far Away Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It doesn't have to be about romance. I associate this song with a group of friends.... When they befriended me a year ago, I didn't realize how much they would help me become who I am. And now our small group is pretty much over. Our regular meeting is done. And it feels like a part of my heart is ripped out. And i might be moving 700 miles away on top of it. so for me, it's sometimes about God, sometimes about romance, but it's mostly about friendships. Deep friendships that reach into your heart. |

| Colbie Caillat – Anything At All Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I actually can't tell who does this song on the track I've got. Is it Tristan? or Colbie? Ahhh!!! | |
| Eisley – Brightly Wound Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"to the brook" or "to the stream" makes more sense than "with to me"..... I like this song though. It's about... keeping that childish, imaginative part of yourself, even after you're grown up. |
| Vanessa Carlton – The One Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Yeah, it was Stevie. At first, it was weird, but after a while, their voices work well together. It could be about the guy in White Houses. But no, obviously, because if a couple stays together for one song, they couldn't have broken up before this song. Duh!!! (sarcasm) |
| Vanessa Carlton – My Best Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I don't see much sense if it's "My love, our friends". It's been referred to a break up song, and girls rarely won't tell their friends when they break up. I think it is about a break up. Though they might not have some aspects of a relationship, their friendship is a mirror of what it once was. They might not have intimacy, or they might not let their hearts be as involved, but in the end they still love each other. They are still close friends. |
| The Eames Era – Boy Came In Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I really like this song. I take it as a guy came into her life, and it doesn't quite work out. But there's always going to be a part of her that loves him, and will be there for him, even if he doesn't love her. |
| Eisley – A Sight to Behold Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It reminds me of The Book of Jane. Of course, I finished it minutes ago, so it could be clouding my judgement. But a lot of the songs from combinations seem to be about new love and letting go of old things. |

| Jason Schwartzman – Ethan's Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Or maybe Dashboard played it at a show. I've never seen this on any of their cds. Dashboard Confessional has a habit of whipping out random covers during their sets. I like to sing this to my sisters. and to lovers. It's so disturbing. I love it! |

| Showoff – Ralphie Lyrics | 18 years ago |

| John Reuben – Life Is Short Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song could be the theme song of a friend of mine that just passed away. He was always friendly, and was just so optimistic. I feel like the world is a little less bright now that he's gone. But what he'd wanna say is what John Reuben is saying: This life is short, don't waste it. Love others as you love yourself. Keep faith and hope in your life!!! |

Soo... sorry to be the "know-it-all" with The Fold lyrics, but when I talked to Daniel at a concert, he said that this was about his mom. So you were right on with the death part. |
| The Fold – Melting Snow and Video Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's about his mom. Daniel's mom was older (thus the wrinkles). He was really upset. but he's 100% sure she's in heaven. it's beautiful. A lot of the songs about his mom are comforting when you lose someone. You can really connect... |
| High School Musical 2 – Gotta Go My Own Way Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Yeah.... I was laughing my butt off during this song. I imagine that most of you are 12-14, but I hope you realize that you don't sing your problems out in real life. Anyway. I've started memorizing this song, and I have the karaoke cd... so next time I need to break up with someone, I'm breaking out this song!!! Thank you HSM2 writers for giving me good break up material!! |

| Relient K – When You're Around Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It is very much open to interpretation. A lot of Relient K songs can go either way- a significant other or God. They like to sing about a great love, and you can get it from both. Sure, the latter is much more than the first one, but a significant other can still give love. :) | |
| Anchor & Braille – Wedding/Funeral Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The creepy thing (maybe not creepy. just interesting) is that it could either be for a wedding OR a funeral. Codyhill06 was right about the passion. The love for this woman is amazing, and his voice is so passionate about losing her. |
| Anberlin – (*Fin) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Wild guess... about God, faith, people that abuse the faith, and just struggling to figure things out. The last two lines though... I'm not quite sure what it means. Desperation and confusion is hell. Perhaps. |
| Anberlin – Dismantle. Repair. Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it goes between a relationship and God. The relationship is... hard to resist. "Hands like secrets are the hardest things to keep from you" There's an intimacy in this relationship. They're usually open with each other, and will hug or hold hands. The verses seem to be very relationship themed. But the chorus can go either way. God's the best at dismantling me, and repairing me. Friends and lovers can do that too. But it is an enchanting song. |
