alesana said that this chapter in the album tells about the protagonist crossing paths with the antagonist... maybe the antagonist was the one who killed the girl and the protagonist did not even have the chance to save her, so he begs for her forgiveness.. and then he met THE MURDERER ( another song in the album ). Finally he realizes that she's not coming back so he tries to forget her..? as far as I can see, the album's concept is based on Edgar Allan Poe's Annabel Lee, where the narrator is the protagonist/ lover, the angels were the antagonist, the ones who killed Annabel because of jealousy. this is my interpretation... there were two friends, let's call them john and jake, and then there's a girl, let's call her joanne. john fell in love with joanne, but he doesn't know how to tell her, so he asked jake for help. the problem is that jake got too attached to joanne and used this opportunity to steal joanne: "she's all mine..." John got angry and wanted to kill both of them, but he is confused because he is still attracted to her, even though she shows him that she is more happy with jake: "Does she know before i met her i have only dreamt of so much blood, so why is she tempting me?" and then he killed jake instead: " i'm tired of washing my hands clean of what i've done, tis to a murderer's den you have come..." |

This is my interpretation of the song... a man fell in love with a girl, but the girl already has a boyfriend... "in spite of doubt, I have to break the spell... a lovely day to be tortured by dreams of you..." and so the girl's boyfriend got insulted, and treated the girl and everyone badly... "you should have known better than to insult me, that won't happen again... sleep, i'll pretend that you died, and as you rest may your youth be stripped away from you, sleep my precious the darling rosamond, may nightmares lay with you, revenge is mine..." but the girl is not happy with the one she's with, and she compares her suffering to a nightmare... "her sweet lips oh so fair, to awake is now everything i crave...... save me, help me, someone, anyone please can you hear me, my eyes will i ever see light of day again, never..." so the man finds a way to steal her and make her happy... "please know you'll never again be alone for i'm with you... i will break the spell...... my princess into the thorns i shall dive..." but the girl's boyfriend would not let them get away, of course... "you'll never get away, you wish you both had died, he will not break the spell..." but they did, and so they lived happily ever after...
