Curse Of The Virgin Canvas Lyrics
(I am here to tell you a story.
A story that will torture your thoughts by day and poison your dreams by night.
And though I will do my best, there are no words that can be written nor brush strokes laid on canvas that can describe the stark and utter horror of the night that Annabel died.
The emptiness will haunt you.)
This is a nightmare, is my Annabel really gone?
My eyes are stung by daylight, I find it hard to breathe.
Her body teases me as the sun reveals the dawn.
The smell of bleed still crawls, I kiss you softly goodbye.
Baby, lay in my arms and cuddle me close.
Soon this will be just an awful memory...
Will I ever be able to sleep again?
My angel lie to me and tell me I'm dreaming.
(please wake me up, please wake me).
A girl like you will always be such a tragic part of me.
(oh ecstasy you torture me).
I watch the blood drip from the counters of your mouth.
Your icy flesh is laying, your pallid skin still glows.
I'm starting to believe what my eyes are seeing now.
You're still so beautiful and yet so morbidly still.
Sweet revenge...
He will pay, he will pay my dear.
Empty eyes accuse a face so evil, I'm coming undone.
The mirror says it all, a crimson story of innocence lost.
Empty eyes accuse a face so evil, I'm coming undone.
What have I done to her?
So terribly memory returns of her struggle, of her screams, of her.
Lord forgive me!
My stomach heaves as I see the blood that covers me.
Blood that was once hers.
I'm a monster!
Such an awful memory...
Will I ever be able to sleep again?
(A mirror never lies.
They know.
Everybody knows.
Do you not see what they see?
A mirror never lies.
I see what they see. Everybody knows. Everybody knows.)

"The dawn is approaching the small town of Slough in England during the year 1898. A local sketch artist, known to us simply as "the Artist," lies in a bed next to the woman of his dreams, "Annabel." As the first rays of sunlight pour through the window, he rolls over to wake his lover with a kiss. Her cold lips reveal a lifeless body once so beautiful. His one and only love has been murdered and nothing is what it seems. When it is revealed to him whose hands may be responsible, he begs for the whole thing to be a horrible nightmare." -Alesana
I kinda think this song is the author's intake on the poem "Annabel Lee" by Edgar Allan Poe. In the lyrics, it mentions Annabel, and how she's gone. It also talks about an icy corpse. In the poem Annabel Lee (if you bothered to look it up), the narrator claims that a wind came out, chilling and killing Annabel Lee. I'm guessing that this song is about what the author(s) thought happened to Annabel and the narrator in the poem. (:
Alright song. All of the songs on this album are just alright. Honestly, this album is a huge disappointment to me. The whole album is about how his true love Annabel was murdered. It's a well written album, and very creative, I just don't really like the sound, especially compared to "On Frail Wings Of Vanity And Wax" which, in my opinion, is their best album of the three.
If you are interested in this album I would recommend listening to it online before you purchase it. It's a decent album, but just isn't really what I thought it what be. It's Alesana, just doesn't seem quite Alesana if you know what I mean.
i think this is a great album. and this album is based on the poem "Annabel Lee" by Edgar Allan Poe.

In my personal opinion for as little as its worth, this album is genius! To take 1 poem and turn it into 13 or so very well written songs in just unreal. Every song is totally great and totally Alesana! Cant wait to see em on the 27th. I would recommend buying this before listening, not in any way a disappointment!

I couldn't agree more with the replies . In no way possible was I disappoint when I heard this album. You should buy it . They tried many new things that most bands in their genre would never dare to.

Yes this album is actually well constructed, i really like how the song follow a story. if you really enjoyed this i'd suggest to listen to La Dispute's album "Somewhere At The Bottom Of The River Vega between Altair".

i know what you mean. i feel that there's something missing. maybe Huck's departure from alesana created an impact, you know, Huck has screamed together with Dennis, and had sung with shawn for quite some time, so maybe that's what i was looking for... but i'm not disappointed with the album, it's just that something was missing...

annarchi, your right about Huck leaving being disappointing. And of course the sound is gonna change some, but the album still turned out amazing. i finally got the album a month ago, and i haven't really listened to anything else. it completly resparked my love for the band, and i have been listening to them since the "All The Tragedy Money Can Buy" sampler. Now i just want to know what they are going to do for the next album.
