You won't believe what I tell you,
White coats and clever minds will choose
You get a lot from this
Loose tongue and arrogance
It's not appropriate
Don't think that this is it

Now I can talk, no one gets off
(I know how you like to)
Now I can talk, no one gets off

A longer sentence brings no more
Than one that I had said before
It's hard to compromise
When I see through your eyes
It's just a common view
I guess it's lost on you

Now I can talk, no one gets off
(I know how you like to)
Now I can talk, no one gets off

Now I can talk, no one gets off
(I know how you like to)
Now I can talk, no one gets off

Now I can talk, no one gets off
(I know how you like to)
Now I can talk, no one gets off

Now I can talk, no one gets off
(I know how you like to)
Now I can talk, no one gets off

    My Interpretation

To me this song really just sounds like someone who's been in therapy for a while.

You won't believe what I tell you, White coats and clever minds will choose You get a lot from this Loose tongue and arrogance It's not appropriate Don't think that this is it

I think this is talking about therapists/psychiatrists, how they'll pick out certain things from what you say. You get a lot from this could be referring to pay (they make a lot!) or an ego-boost (fixing people means that you have your own life under control).

A longer sentence brings no more Than one that I had said before

When you go through therapy, it's like talking about the same thing over and over again just using different words. He's saying nothing has changed from before.

It's hard to compromise When I see through your eyes It's just a common view I guess it's lost on you

Saying things that mean a lot to you and having the doctor try to break down and analyze it. There are common emotions and thoughts among all people.

I get the whole "institutionalized" thing, but generally I think songs often mean a lot less than people think. Usually they're just phrases that sound cool quickly jotted down. Not always, but sometimes.

Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
