To me this song really just sounds like someone who's been in therapy for a while.

I think this is talking about therapists/psychiatrists, how they'll pick out certain things from what you say. You get a lot from this could be referring to pay (they make a lot!) or an ego-boost (fixing people means that you have your own life under control).

When you go through therapy, it's like talking about the same thing over and over again just using different words. He's saying nothing has changed from before.

Saying things that mean a lot to you and having the doctor try to break down and analyze it. There are common emotions and thoughts among all people.

I get the whole "institutionalized" thing, but generally I think songs often mean a lot less than people think. Usually they're just phrases that sound cool quickly jotted down. Not always, but sometimes.
