Touches You Lyrics

When you've had enough and you need somebody to know
When you're looking tough but you need a way to let it go
Come on now, what's a boy s'posed to do
When I can't seem to leave you alone
Touching me touching you

I wanna be your brother, wanna be your father too
Never make you run for cover even if they want us to
I wanna be your sister, wanna be your mother too
I wanna be wanna be
Whatever else that touches you
Whatever else that touches you
Whatever else that touches you
If you're ever losing, losing your way
just stop and listen to the things that they say
To avoid confrontation
You walk away

Growing up when I need to compromise
When I've had enough 20 years and I realize
Come on now, what's a boy s'posed to do
When I can't seem to leave you alone
Touching me touching you

I wanna be your brother, wanna be your father too
Never make you run for cover even if they want us to
I wanna be your sister, wanna be your mother too
I wanna be wanna be
Whatever else that touches you

I wanna be your brother, wanna be your father too
Never make you run for cover even if they want us to
I wanna be your sister, wanna be your mother too
I wanna be wanna be
Whatever else that touches you
Whatever else that touches you
Whatever else that touches you
Whatever else that touches you
Whatever else that touches you

Wow, I always thought this song was about him being gay.

"Growing up when I need to compromise When I've had enough twenty years and I realize" I thought this line was about when he realised he felt different and had to compromise to fit everones expectations of him because people expect you to be straight

"When you've had enough and you need somebody to know When you're looking tough but you need a way to let it go" And I thought this bit was about how hard it was to keep it a secret and now he needs to say.

I thought overall it was a song about him liking a guy and wanting to be with him but because nobody knew or wanted him to be gay then he felt the only way he could love this guy was to be a family member. Also possibly that the guy he liked wasn't/ dind't want to be gay.

@spbm1 I think so too!

I love this song. It is a little creepy but that just makes it better.

I think it's about somebody who's very withdrawn and introverted, who won't open up to anybody. I think the song's point of view is from somebody who wants to get close to them in whatever way they can--to get the person out of their shell.

Or it's just about a creeper. Haha.

Song Meaning

Interesting, I don't see this song as creepy at all. First off, there's a verse missing from the beginning here that goes:

"You think you're better, you're better than me You write me off as history To avoid conversation, you ignore me."

I view it as a man singing to an ex-significant other (woman in my imagination, but that doesn't have to be the case). For whatever reason, they broke up but he's not over her. He wants to try and work things out, but she keeps blowing him off. The "touches you" part is emotional, not physical; he wants to be as important to her as her family is because that's how much she means to him.

That's how I think of it, anyway.

you do know that he is gay right?

You mean bisexual?

I didn't think this song was creepy at first - I thought it was very sweet and my opinion of the meaning was very much like L4atjuh's. However, when I was looking at the album art of the Deluxe Edition of "The Boy Who Knew Too Much", I found a little picture of a newspaper reading "DR. JOHN SAVES THE DAY: Leaving Victorious, Freed her from her jealous lover who did not want anyone else to touch her. Hid her from her mother, father, brother and..."

It leads me to believe the song does have a bit of a creepy meaning - the boy is possessive and takes control of the girl by hiding the girl from her parents and siblings siblings, taking up the titles himself.

However, I do prefer to look at the song as I did before - while I guess it was meant to be creepy it can still be considered sweet and very loving.

This song is so creepy.

I love it.

The song actually continues with these lyrics: "This isn't a perfect love One that we're guilty of What am I supposed to do I can't seem to leave you alone Touching me touching you" I think that this song is about a boy that has a relationship with a girl, but he can't touch her without feeling guilty or at least weird. He wants to get rid of that feeling, that's why he is saying that he wants to be "whatever else that touches you". Deep down he knows that the relationship isn't going to work out and last. But that's just my opinion...

Hehey!

I thought a lot about it and for me it's very clear. There is a whole story in this song ! It is about an openly gay man "I've had enough 20 years" who sings about his love interest who isn't out yet. That LI is not comfortable with his sexuality and therefor he doesn't want to be in an emotional relationship "blow me off as history" I guess, LI thinks that being gay isn't OK "you think you are better" The singer wants to convince him that being queer is wonderful but LI can't "let it go". Still singer can't help himself either by leaving him. He needs to be with him. "When I can't seem to leave you alone". There "touching me touching you" means sexual touching, which tells me that they still are engaged in a sexual relationship. Singer would love to be a member of his family in order to tell him that it was totally OK to love the same sex although he didn't know how they would react "never make you run for cover - even if they want us to". In this case "touches you" means emotionally! Nothing creepy at all!

My Interpretation

I don't think its a creepy song either.

I'm guessing the song is about a man, trying to tell -in my mind- a woman that he wants to be there for her, not just as a lover but so much more than that. As in how actions can sometimes "touch" you (in the heart), he wants to be there for her. and, adding that missing part, it's probably his ex, and maybe this is how he tries to explain to her how he wants to be there for her when they try again...?

a bit of a wild guess. Other than that, i love the song to bits. Nice and sensitive :)
