they're advertising on the tv
become a soldier
it's still high school politics, you know
nothing's changed
jocks and assholes still don't know shit about aesthetic
i think i smell a rat
we sold our revenge
now we're working for them
where's the divide

you know justin, well justin's dead
and yahoo won't let his family
have access to his email account
the new's reporter said
i feel so bad for you, it's so awkward
there's really nothing i can say
merry christmas, happy holidays
from network and its affiliates
so where's the divide

This song references the story of Justin Ellsworth, who was killed by a bomb in Iraq. His family wanted to access his Yahoo email account to read his last accounts, but Yahoo declined to turn over the account password. The family took Yahoo to court and Yahoo later conceded.

This song is pure garbage, and probably the worst piece of shit AM! has ever released. I seriosuly have trouble listening to this song, despite the fact that they are probably my favorite band. There is so much more that can be said about the outrages of war being advertised to young people, how they go into the army without anywhere else to turn, about how war ruins young people's lives. No, but what does the lyrics say? They complain about how Yahoo won't let the boy's FAMILY access his email account? Who gives a shit? I can't tell who this song is directed to? Is it directed to the two-faced media who fakes caring about the dead soldier, is it directedto war itself, to the outrages of war, to tell people not to join the army? What is this song saying? I think it's specifically against the media, but it says so much more about the war that it clouds and almost doesn't even indicate the meaning to this worthless song.

Only as well as can be expected. It really hurts, but at the same time, I'm half expecting to wake up, or the camera guys to come out and say it was all a sick, twisted joke. Ya know? It's just so...unreal. We made plans to hang out tomorrow too.

I know how that is :| she was also my cousin, and when I came home one day my parents told me and I thought they were kidding, but then I realized they weren't and I seriously passed out.

Omg. That's awful. I didn't pass out, but everything went into slow motion and I could feel my heart beating in the pit of my stomach. I thought I was going to throw up.

Okay, I'm not crazy. Neither is my little sister, but the day we had made plans, I went up to his girlfriend's house and spent the night, because I'm really good friends with her and I wanted to make sure she was okay. While I was gone, my sister said she heard knocking on the door, but no one was there. She would open up the door, see that nobody was there, and then 5 minutes later there would be another knock. After a while, she just stood at the door and looked through the eye-hole thing (I guess, to see if someone was playing ding-dong ditch or something, but was knocking on the door instead), she had her hand up against the door, and she heard the knocking again. She could feel them knocking, but no one was outside. Weirdest thing ever.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there.
