Pints of Guinness Make You Strong Lyrics
It's been 37 years since James died on St. Patrick's Day in 1964
But she could not hold it against him
There were times when there was nothing she could do
But lie in bed all day beside a picture of them together
A picture of better days
And just like James, I'll be drinking Irish tonight
and the memory of his last work week will be gone forever
Evelyn I'm not coming home tonight!
If we're never together
If I'm never back again
Well I swear to God that I'll love you forever
Evelyn I'm not coming home tonight!
She'd always love him
and from the day that he died
She never loved again
an A.A. card and a lock of red hair
she kept secrets of pride locked so tight in her heart
it killed a part of her before the rest was gone.
She said, "If I would have known just how things would have ended up
I just would have let myself die."

against me have got to be one of the most beautiful and sincere things to come out of "punk rock" in years.......god i love this song, it still makes me cry every time i hear it. its pretty refreshing after hearing this pre-fabricated vagrant records style "emotion" that seems to be all the rage these days to find something so geniune and pure without a trace of contrived "emo". dashboard can whine all he wants about his girlfriend, saves the day can use all the clumsy metaphors they want about their girlfriends, but this right here is what rock and roll is all about. simple, sincere and beautiful. oh yea, and the song is about his grandparents.

Evelyn was Tom's grandmother and James was his grandfather. James was an alcoholic but was still always good to Evelyn. his grandmother was always there for Tom growing up and lived with her on and off so Tom cares for her deeply. James died from a heart attack, Evelyn never remarried. hope that helps.

this is the one of the saddest songs ever.

slidious......umm.....maybe you should have read the lyrics to the song....its not about guinness making you strong. they did an interview in heartattack a few issues ago mentioning how awkward it is whenever they announce this song and some idiots raise their beers and are like "yea guinness is awesome hooray". thats not the point of the song. but i agree with you theyre fucking amazing.
and alivewhilestilldead, i wasnt trying to start an argument or anything, i just thought you were one of those kids who downloads entire albums of hardcore/punk bands off audiogalaxy and just burns em....i hate those dicks. its one thing burning a cheap trick album or something, but for a band that is out there busting their ass trying to make a difference, selling records is the only way they could possibly break even, or at least not lose that much money. as for websites, they don't have a website.

shut the hell about "Supporting this" and "Supporting that." They're a great band, but you don't know people's financial situations. We live in a capitalist state, dude. The messages in this music are what fucking matters. If you've got the money to support it, do it, but if not... download their damn songs and fucking think about them.

for any of you that are shooting down against me (or just haven't seen them live) should really go see them live, there is no more intense experience out there. Everyone together singing along with the band, the energy and emotion from the band and the crowd is unreal. I get tears in my eyes everytime I yell "and just like James I'll be drinkin' Irish tonite!!!!" they're incredible.

:(

couldn't have said it better myself.

this band is unbelieveably good, every song I download leaves me speechless. ...WOW...good stuff

www.noidearecords.com put out their new LP if you're interested.
and www.plan-it-x.com put out their first 2 7"s.
if they leave you so speechless, maybe you should support them a little.
