    hey smellytoejam im so sorry about your friend.i no what your going throught one of my friends passed away last year and it so hard to get over them and i think this is a song to help you cope with death and my friend didnt commite suicied eather but when i was in grade four one of my friends did commite suicied it was so sad he was older then me he was in grade 7 it was just very hard to deal with but i have to . could you e-mail me i think we could help eachother cuz weve both been through the same thing my addy is kage_kicks@hotmail.com thanks

The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
