Wow! Alot of different views going on here, but, I think this song does exactly what every song is supposed to....have individual meaning for each individual. I think its very hard to say it has no spiritual/religous meaning in it, when you look at the lyrics "I thought I found the road to somewhere, somewhere in His grace...", which right there told me MY whole meaning to this song, and it all fell into place, so here is my interpretation, but like I said, whatever it means to you, thats all thats important and if it helps you, then they (Creed) did their job....ok, here's my interpretation
Its all about love kids! The line saying I thought I found the road somewhere in His grace, to me, is talking about finding the perfect love, your soulmate, the one your meant to be with.....and the line of holding on to all I think is safe, is wanting to hang on to this relationship that is everything you know and feel is right and what was supposed to be....I yelled back when I heard thunder, is that final arguement that ends the relationship and down to one last breath is when you FEEL like your life is ending because the relationship is over...."Six feet from the edge and I'm thinking that maybe six feet ain't so far down", is when you feel that you can't go on when your one true love leaves and although we all have the strength to go on, for just a fleeting moment, we consider what it would be like to take those last steps over the edge....The rest of the song reflects on the relationship, admitting where you made your mistakes, basically stepping back from those 6ft and learning where you went wrong and realizing it wasn't the kind of love you find "Somewhere in His grace"....the sad eyes that follow are your own, as you mourn the lost relationship..."But I still beleive there is something left for me", is the realization that you will get over the hurt and move on...."I still beleive there is something left for you and me" is the heart still wanting to make it work, AND, in my interpretation, it is our heart crying out to the Lord, to help us through the pain, to carry us, hold us and give us strength to move on after we have had our hearts broken.
So whatever the song is to you, I hope it helps, because thats what music is, healing, uplifting, inspirational, and enjoyable....take care all!
