| The Lumineers – Ophelia Lyrics

Love this song! Reminds me very much of a similar time in my life, when I had one girl on my mind. It's funny because I was listening to a lot of Lumineers at the time as well. I'm curious as to what 'since the flood' could mean though. |

Love this song, pretty sure it's about his struggle with drug addiction and fighting back against it. This song was written at a time when he was trying hard to fight against his addiction, so it would make sense. |

| Bob Dylan – Mr. Tambourine Man Lyrics

I agree. There are many references in the lyrics that support this. He is weary but he can't sleep and all he wants is to forget about the worries on his mind and to drift off to sleep.
By the third verse he is warning about possibly talking in his sleep and for anyone else there not to worry or confuse that with him being awake (the part about laughing and spinning not being aimed at anyone). He is also saying that while asleep you might hear music, but not to wake up because of it as it is part of the dream (I wouldn't pay it any mind, it's just a shadow you're chasin').
In the fourth verse I believe he wants to have a peaceful dream that takes him away from nightmares (the haunted, frightened trees) and away from the sadness and worry of real life. |

| Dave Matthews Band – Why I Am Lyrics

I think this is about the lessons they learned from the death of their fallen bandmate. They learned that they could not sit by and wallow in pain and sadness, but that he would want them to keep making music, and it inspired them to make good music too, as they began to realize how death can come at any moment without anyone really knowing when. |

Great Ben Kweller song! I love the new album. I think the riff clashes a bit with the rest of it but it's still very good. |

I personally think that this song is about 9/11. Especially after seeing the video for it where at the end Dave is really serious unlike most of their videos. I think that it is supposed to be an inspirational song one that says "yeah we hit a road block as a country, but we will come out of it better than ever". |

Not saying that's not one interpretation. But if you are going by the literal explanation of the song, the OP wasn't quite correct. The song isn't about not sleeping at all, its about the lie that kids are told about sleeping and that you won't "die faster than without water" as it says right there in the words. |

everyone criticized this song for being too "poppy". I don't see it at all. Sure it is upbeat, but he is talking about his opinions on death here, which is not really different from a lot of other songs by Bright Eyes. Also the instrumentation is some of the best I have heard from them. |

@pejoze You are misinformed. Osama was wanted for 9/11 as he admitted to orchestrating the attacks. When they killed him they found many documents about the orchestration of 9/11 in his house. |

| Neutral Milk Hotel – Holland, 1945 Lyrics

That part, to me feels like its about the Holocaust. Not just anne frank personally but the entire plight of the Jews and the others who were slaughtered needlessly. Everybody either kept quiet or sided with the Nazis and pretty much just let this occur. And I feel like the last line is Mangum's point of view about how terrible all of that really is. |

Part of this at least seems to be about obsession with new things. The singer points out that everything will be the same in the end, so these things don't even really matter in the long run. |

| The Polyphonic Spree – Section 9 (Light & Day/Reach for the Sun) Lyrics

I'm pretty sure this song is optimistic. It's sincere at least. The parts about "flying to the red" and "one more you're dead" are warnings about lifestyle and not doing drugs I think. So the message is just "follow the day and reach for the sun" which basically means just enjoy the world and life for its beauty and that drugs aren't the answer. |

I think this one of the best songs ever made. The minimalism in the music in some parts that just comes together with the other instruments later... my god this is beautiful. Kanye reveals something deep within himself about how he can't form relationships and I think he doesn't just mean romantically either. He just has trouble relating to other people. |

I also feel like rappers today took the wrong message from this song. It wasn't about showing off that he was rich and all the nice things you get when you're rich, but about overcoming obstacles in your life to achieve a better one, despite a negative atmosphere growing up, which he was able to do against the odds. |

To me it seems that he could go make a big change in his life to rid himself of that apathy that surrounds his life, but like he says, "all his stuff is there anyway" so why leave? It seems lazy and indifferent to me. |
