@schmidty79 - Actually, "Blue" would be a reference to his emotional state. He is sad or "blue" that he isn't back on the bayou where he wants to be. The word is given a double meaning, both as a description of his emotional state and also as the name of the Bayou where he's longing to be.

beautiful song!! Roy Orbison's voice is perfect. I think this has to do with someday having a perfect life and always to aspire for that beautiful life even if you can't see it at the moment.
I just think of an inmigrant that left his o her child, family and friends behind. Had troubles once being there and now has no money to go back. He or she is determined to work hard or make whatever it takes to go back home but is having a hard time to make it, so is feeling blue and depressed for having made such a bad desicion, but sure that someday will make it, hopefully not too late.

its about someone who has made a life for themselves far away from home, i.e. in, a different country, and they go through the with athat deep hollow longing, but at the dame time hope, that they will be "going back someday..." which makes the bustle & grind bareable. Its a song about a deep deep longing...someone i loved very much listened to it all the time. He eventually commited suicide.
This is a "coming home" song. Simple, eloquent and as always with Roy - crisp clear lyrics from the heavens. God I miss Roy.
