The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
we skipped through springtime. I hope I make it back by summer. sometimes I wonder if there would be one without me. she's behind the pages. she's an everyday angel. she doesn't think she's pretty. I think she's beautiful. soon I'll be chasing the sun back home. some things just happen. some things are meant to. some think that there ain't no use in trying but I don't think so. she's all of the sunset and she's half of the picture. she doesn't know I miss her. save me. I've been away so long. I've been given nothing but gray sky. soon I'll be chasing the sun back home. It's going to be good this time. I think I've finally made up my mind. soon I'll be chasing the sun back home and you'll be there.

Haha, I love this song...it just sounds so inspirational, dontcha think? :). Well, I think it's plain what it means. This guy (Jeff, I suppose he's writing about himself...) is just in love with this girl, and she's everything to him. When he says "She doesn't think she's pretty / I think she's beautiful" it just shows what sensitive song it is, and how much he cares 'bout her :). (Sheesh, lucky girl, haha).
this songs wkd...i think its about how much he misses a chick....
