Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh

We build our dreams from the ashes of your nightmares
Carry our father's sins from the cradle to the grave
We blaze our path through the darkness that you left us in
Now we ride in the belly of the beast
We are the diamonds that choose to stay coal
A generation born to witness the end of the world

Against the grain
Against the odds
Against the world
Forever the underdogs

We are the bastard sons
We are the ones that refused to grow cold
We are the thorn in your side
We are the thieves in the night
And we're coming to take what's ours

No regrets
No regrets we inherit the sins of the fathers
Now reap the vengeance
No regrets We inherit the sins of the fathers
Now reap the vengeance

Go
From the ashes of your nightmare
From the cradle to the grave
We blaze our path through the darkness that you left us in
Now we ride in the belly of the beast
We are the diamonds that choose to stay coal
A generation born to witness the end of the world

Born to witness the end of the world
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Viva the underdogs

Viva the underdogs
Viva the underdogs
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Viva the underdogs
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Viva the underdogs
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Viva the underdogs
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Viva the underdogs

    Song Meaning

Parkway Drive about the meaning of this song:

"Lyrically, this song is about power and where it is placed. The way the world currently works, decisions for the masses are made by the few, and the futures of the youth are held hostage by the greed of those who have grown into power through selfish means. The systems we champion have become the chains that hold us back. The majority have become the underdogs to the few that hold the keys to true freedom."

    My Interpretation

sooo here's what i think, as a person with a little knowledge of the bible, and i see alot of references in their lyrics, wich i like as one of jehovah's witness. aaaaanyway heres my piece of mind:

"We build our dreams from the ashes of your nightmares Carry our father's sins from the cradle to the grave We blaze our path through the darkness that you left us in Now we ride in the belly of the beast"

sooo as we all kind of know the first human was adam, and if he refused to eat from the apple that eve gave him eve wouldv died and god wouldv made another women for him. but he didnt so he is, along with satan, responsible for the existense of sins. sin is inherited when born according to the bible. everyone sins. so basically we inherit the sins from our father and we live in the belly of the beast because "the whole world is in the power of the godless(satan)) satan is often called The Beast in the Bible. yup indeed, the bible says neither god or jesus rule this world atm, but satan does.

    lets move on.

"We are the diamonds that choose to stay coal A generation born to witness the end of the world"

well the end of the world refers to the end of this system, and the diamonds that choose to stay coal refers to the everyday person thinking that they suck, but they do not care. should they? nope they're awesome haha.

"Against the grain Against the odds Against the world Forever the underdogs"

i think this is just about them being different than the rest, as most metalheads are to be honest. i like to think that this is about the people from my religion but ofc they didnt mean that why would they right.

"We are the bastard sons We are the ones that refused to grow cold We are the thorn in your side We are the thieves in the night And we're coming to take what's ours"

we are the ones that refused to grow cold, possibly referring to them willingly choosing to be different and be thereselves. we are the thorn in your side, a thorn in the side is a saying from the bible wich means a test, a very hard one that is. the thieves in the night, now this is a cool reference. god said that armageddon would come as a thief in the night. does it mean something in the song? you tell me! we're coming to take whats ours, nooooo idea.

"No regrets We inherit the sins of the fathers, now reap the vengeance"

i guess they shall punish satan for what we did or something.

AGAIN, THIS IS MY POINT OF VIEW, dont get mad at me for being religious or something or getting stuff wrong, i just love the references myself and make alot of links due to knowing the meaning of them. and i like doing that :)

No regrets We inherit the sins of the fathers, now reap the vengeance

From the ashes of your nightmares From the cradle to the grave We blaze our path through the darkness that you left us in Now we ride in the belly of the beast We are the diamonds that choose to stay coal A generation born to witness the end of the world

Born to witness the end of the world

    Before the underdogs

To me this just defines our so called generation x y or whatever stupid label they put on it. Refusing to do what is "expected" of us. Born to have so much potential in the older generations eyes but refuse to be defined by them. We blaze our own path because it is our world now which has been dumped on us and expected to clean up the mess they created of it.

"The world is broken. We’re the last choking embers of a fire waiting to burn out. Long before our grandfathers and their fathers before them, we started pulling our planet apart in the name of progress and blind ambition. The greed of man has devoured this earth until there was nothing left. We watch as time eats us alive. A generation born to witness the end of the world." That's what is said at the start of the video. Pretty much what the song means. As for 'we are diamonds choosing to stay coal' I think it means: how can we be expected to live to our full potential by generations before us when they pulled apart most of the earth before we were even born?

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
