You're alone, you're on your own, so what?
Have you gone blind?
Have you forgotten what you have and what is yours?
Glass half empty, glass half full
Well either way you won't be going thirsty
Count your blessings not your flaws

You've got it all
You lost your mind in the sound
There's so much more
You can reclaim your crown
You're in control
Rid of the monsters inside your head
Put all your faults to bed
You can be king again

You don't get what all this is all about
You're too wrapped up in your self doubt
You've got that young blood, set it free

You've got it all
You lost your mind in the sound
There's so much more
You can reclaim your crown
You're in control
Rid of the monsters inside your head
Put all your faults to bed
You can be king again

There's method in my madness
There's no logic in your sadness
You don't gain a single thing from misery
Take it from me

You've got it all
You lost your mind in the sound
There's so much more
You can reclaim your crown
You're in control
Rid of the monsters inside your head
Put all your faults to bed
You can be king

You've got it all
You lost your mind in the sound
There's so much more
You can reclaim your crown
You're in control
Rid of the monsters inside your head
Put all your faults to bed
You can be king again

    General Comment

This is about mental illness, specifically depression, methinks. "…the monsters inside your head"… "self-doubt", "sadness" etc. Very affecting.

    My Interpretation

I don't think this song is necessarily about suicide or depression. I think it's much simpler than that. Everyone has bad days sometimes- the thing to remember is that it's just a bad day, not a bad life.

"You're alone, you're on your own, so what?"- You can't always rely on others to make you feel better. Nobody can cheer you up if you are determined to be gloomy. "Have you gone blind?"- This world is absolutely wonderful. Not everything goes perfectly, and that's okay. "Have you forgotten what you have and what is yours?"- You're alive. You have wonderful friends and family. "Glass half empty, glass half full Well either way you won't be going thirsty"- This is literally my favorite song line of all time. When I was younger, I was a huge pessimist, but I managed to trick myself into believing I was an optimist- and it worked. "Count your blessings not your flaws"- You have so many gifts. You aren't perfect, but nobody else is either.

(Chorus) "You've got it all"- You have all the tools you need to succeed. "You lost your mind in the sound"- Sometimes, with all the outside influences from the media and other people, you forget who you are. "There's so much more"- Just because things are bad now doesn't mean they'll stay that way. "You can reclaim your crown"- You can be happy again. "You're in control"- You get to control how you feel. No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. "Rid of the monsters inside your head"- Anxiety, despair, and frustration- don't make them your constant companions. "Put all your faults to bed"- You have faults. It's your job to work to fix them. "You can be king again"- Do you remember being a little kid, feeling like you're on top of the world? You can reclaim that feeling.

"You don't get what all this is all about You're too wrapped up in your self doubt"- Right now, you don't want to listen. You feel miserable, and you want to stay that way. "You've got that young blood, set it free"- There's so much you could be doing, rather than being gloomy. Get out there and do it!

    (Chorus)

"There's method in my madness" If you think about it, this all makes sense. "There's no logic in your sadness"- What's the point in being gloomy? "You don't gain a single thing from misery"- There is a time and place for sadness. But you can't just be miserable all the time. "Take it from me"- You aren't the only one who's felt despair. We've all been there, and we've learnt and grown from it.

    (Chorus x2)

    My Interpretation

I think there are also many normal sad moments in life that inspire change. Everyone has had big life changes. Everyone has lost a loved one or moved away from friends. Monsters in your head isn't only mental illness. All people in your life are inside your head, including that horrible boss at work. Then maybe you come to the realization you can move past that monster and that monster doesn't have to live in your thoughts. That might also mean you realize you can move on to a different job. There are many relationships and places in life you can be where it's time for a change. Say you spend too much time on your career and put other things aside, so you decide to change that and be more like you used to be, spend more time with friends or getting out in the world. You can be the king again and make those decisions. There is both sadness and joy in that kind of realization. I think to many people, that is what this song is about.

    My Interpretation

I think this is a song about someone cheering up a loved one- being a friend, boyfriend, or family member. He has pessimistic thoughts and probably deals with depression, and his friend/relative/lover wants to cheer him up and remind him of all the good in the world.

    Song Meaning

(GCSE Poetry) level of explanation (also is an opinion) First we need to know what the themes of the song: Motivation, Emotion, Human, hope.

[should consider] 1st: quote "take it from me" does it sound like the narrator was the mother or important of the person she talk about? 2nd:the used of 'direct address(can be something else but i can't remember :P)' "you" suggests that the narrator try to give us the message, me, you and everyone who listen to this song. 3rd: combine both 2 point we get the summary of we're her child and she about to teach us how/why/ to 'not give up.

First the beginning of the song usually hid a lot meaning, because song just like a poetry "You're alone, you're on your own, so what?" already we can see the 'motivation' attempts. this is going to be very long and boring if i'm doing full analysis so i'll to good point.
"Have you gone blind?,Have you forgotten what you have and what is yours?" the used of rhetorical question suggest that narrator asking a question about what you own, from what we get so far make the narrator more likely to ask "you have you life, have you give it up already?" but is such a great quote that is can meaning so many way such as consciousness of being yourself, if you lose it you become someone else. is up to you what meaning you want it to be but i bet is should be close to mine. "Glass half empty, glass half full Well either way you won't be going thirsty" half empty, half full? yes! is the same but that is not the point, the point is both still stop you from thirsty, is don't have to be full just at long at i not empty. just like hope, at along as you have hope you will not give up. also another great quote, can meant so many thing such as happiness etc. "Count your blessings not your flaws" told us to look at the bright side and being happy. You've got it all You lost your mind in the sound There's so much more You can reclaim your crown You're in control Rid of the monsters inside your head Put all your faults to bed You can be king again [i'm lazy now] she mean we have the power to do anything but sometime we don't do thing right and is could be worst but we have to learn to forgive yourself and learn from mistake (evidence "put all your fault to bed") but you can redeem yourself because you in control of your own life and any problem you face. You can be king again suggest you will become strong again, because King rule everything, old believe that king are the representative of God himself. the word 'again' told us that he is king before. just like us we take control of our life just like a king but then sometime we lose that feeling.

You don't get what all this is all about You're too wrapped up in your self doubt You've got that young blood, set it free

as a human we always have something to learn or we always doing something mistake, that is what pulling us back and sometime we find is hard to move on but the narrator told us learn to be more positive etc.

There's method in my madness There's no logic in your sadness You don't gain a single thing from misery Take it from me

i'm prefect sure in first line but: Narrator said that is might be crazy too do what she said and is true, not every problem can be look at positive side, imagine you have a company but is goes bank corrupt and you said to yourself, this is fine i'll start again. yes only mad man or real life fighter would thing that way but then we move to the next line, a counter point. she said that sadness is not complicate and you don't receive any benefit for having it.

sorry for being lazy but summary: song is about motivation, sometime life is not what you expected but you have the power to overcome it but just not giving up. you yourself are the king of your life and the monster are just many problem that you have to defeat. something that has been done is can't be undone but you can learn from it and make a better way later on.

    My Interpretation

My Interpretation? NO This IS what the song means..

Its between a father and daughter. Ok for some reason or other the father wasn't there for his daughter eg: father died was implied but i am leaning to he was effected by poor life circumstances and maybe drugs. However the daughter is singing the song to her father irrespective if he is there or not. It is what she wishes to say too him. That there is always hope and that he will always be her father and have a place for him in her heart. I wish there would be a part two to this song but songs like this are amazing but too close too home for artist to warrant a second.

10/10 Thank You Kindly You Made My Day (A Dad)

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
