Please Lyrics

Can't you see that I'm sick of this?
Chances are you're oblivious
To how I feel
Sitting on your throne,
And I'm sure that I'm not alone.

Not alone.
Not alone.

Tell me, please!
Who the fuck did you want me to be?
Was it something that I couldn't see?
Never knew this would be so political.
And, please!
I'm still wearing this miserable skin,
And it's starting to tamper within,
But it's obvious that doesn't bother you.
So, please.

I didn't think that you'd sell me out.
Now I know what you're all about.
You might feel in control of things,
But you're not holding all the strings.
All the strings.
All the strings.

Tell me, please!
Who the fuck did you want me to be?
Was it something that I couldn't see?
Never knew this would be so political.
And, please!
I'm still wearing this miserable skin,
And it's starting to tamper within
But it's obvious that doesn't matter to you.

I've swallowed all your answers.
I've swallowed all my pride.
You've used up all your chances.
Can't keep this all inside.

Kill me, please!
Who the fuck did you want me to be?
Was it something that I couldn't see?
Never knew this would be so political.
And, please!
I'm still wearing this miserable skin,
And it's starting to tamper within,
But it's obvious that doesn't bother you.
So, please!
Don't keep telling me that it's okay.
I don't buy all the shit that you say,
And quite honestly I'm fucking sick of it.
So, please!
If I cut off this nose from my face,
Then I wouldn't feel so out of place,
But it still wouldn't be quite enough for you.
So, please.

This song is about trying to live up to what someone else wants you to be instead of who you really are. It creates bitterness and anger. This could be a romantic relationship, a parent/child relationship, or perhaps less frequently a mentor/learner relationship.

This is by far the BEST song on Chapter V. Awesome guitar in the intro and verses, incredible chorus, and I love how the last two minutes are stringed together and flow. My interpretation is that he is being used and expected to be something he's not (miserable skin) by someone who is trying to control him. He went along with it at first (swallowed your answers, swallowed my pride), but now he is begging that person to Please stop controlling and using him. The last verse means that only way for him to be free is to hurt himself more than his repressor (“Don't cut off your nose to spite your face”).

first time I listened to this song I felt it was pretty clear to me that he was talking to God. one of the reasons I got that was that part when he says "never thought this would be so political" since I was born in this really "into studying the bible"-type of family I remember that some of the conclusions I got from it all was that, you know, Satan vs Yaveh ,they kinda try to prove the other one wrong, they try to get militants and in the end whoever fills the requirements for the new society/order will get to survive the final match. but it won't be enough if you just try to stay "clean" or ..you know ,like most people (including me I guess) say.."I'm a good person, I don't steal, I don't kill other people, I go to church from time to time, I don't rape, I cry at weddings...I deserve heaven" ...Nope!; there's a lot of things you could be doing that even though you think they don't count as no no's they do and you'd be working for the other Party. plus, there's a lot of shit you may NOT be doing that will put you on god's "i'm not saving this lil' fucker"'s list. soo, kinda puzzles me nobody here thought of something similar. of course I may be completely clueless, guess you'd have to ask Aaron himself.

God has all strings , so it may talking to satan himself. or the music industry, wich is the same . About proving who is wrong, it is clear by now that satan was wrong, or why will be so messed up the world today, i know that you might dont have interest in religion by know, but the conclusion of all things its at hand, ..{sorry for my grammar}

I take it as hes talking about wanting to eacape an abusive family situation but cant. I can relate to narcissistic family abuse and control/ manipulation. Curious to hear others thoughts 💭 regarding this song.

@stonergal420 always felt the line about 'unspoken rules' hits hard, like the way some families operate on secrets and pretending

I really love the intro too! I think this song is about drugs. It seems like throughout this song, he's expressing his frustration towards it and "Who the fuck did you want me to be" is saying that he thought he would have turned out a better person by consuming the drugs but it ends up controlling him and making him worst. "didn't think that you'd sell me out now i know what you're all about" so he realizes his mistake i guess lol. "Your not holding all the strings" is that the drugs give him temporary pleasure but thats all it does and "now I know what you're all about" just says he realizes his mistake. whoo

This song is the one I can relate to the most currently on Chapter V. I bought the CD the day I got out of rehab, and when this song came on I repeated it three times. I still put it on repeat whenever it comes on.

Basically this girl who I was with before I went into rehab, and she didn't write me back and when I got out she scoffed at the idea of me being clean now. She was the person I got fucked up with everyday for 2 months straight before I went into rehab, and now we don't even talk.. so I can only ask her.. "Who the fuck did you want me to be??"

First I want to point out that the lyrics above are wrong. I was going to post this in the corrected lyrics section but everyone seems to be posting their comments here so I guess I will too.

Anyway...this song can apply to so many situations but I'll only get into one of them.

I'm going to take the son/daughter to his/her father and/or mother perspective because the song kind of reminded me of the lyrical content in "For You" from their Break the Cycle album.

Anyway...one interpretation of this song I see is that it's a son/daugther response to a domineering parent that can never be satisfied. For example...son trying to impress/gain acceptance from their father, but nothing is ever good enough to please his old man.

I came up with this from the following lyrics: "Chances are you're oblivious to how I feel, sitting on your throne. And I'm sure that I'm not alone" ... "Who the fuck did you want me to be? Was it something that I couldn't see? Never knew this would be so political" ... "I've swallowed all your answers, I've swallowed all my pride" ... "I'm still wearing this miserable skin, and its starting to tear from within. But it's obvious that doesn't bother you.."

I don't think this song is about a Parent/Child dysfunctional relationship, but it definitely relates. When I heard this song at first, I thought it was about a romantic relationship, but after I read the lyrics and listened to it again ...I started to see it different. To me, it seems to be about Aaron's relationship with the fans. You know, those 'Fair-weather' fans, who as soon as they hear the slightest thing wrong with/about "Their" celebrity they turn their backs to them. I believe it's about being placed on a pedestal by their fans and being forced to act like it's okay with them. When in truth, they crave normalcy.
