I don't think this song is about a Parent/Child dysfunctional relationship, but it definitely relates. When I heard this song at first, I thought it was about a romantic relationship, but after I read the lyrics and listened to it again ...I started to see it different.
To me, it seems to be about Aaron's relationship with the fans. You know, those 'Fair-weather' fans, who as soon as they hear the slightest thing wrong with/about "Their" celebrity they turn their backs to them.
I believe it's about being placed on a pedestal by their fans and being forced to act like it's okay with them. When in truth, they crave normalcy.
