Hageshisa to, kono mune no naka de kara (English) Lyrics
(English lyrics taken right off of "Hageshisa to, kono mune no naka de karamitsuita shakunetsu no yami" CD case.)
Expose yourself
An abundance of rain ensnared by the faint sky.
It pours down forcefully like suicide of the future.
-Buried at sea-
We must nurture character
Praise immortality
Salute the slyness in breeding
True love and a blink of pleasure
Pseudo suicide
Don't care about how you look
The season of anxiety, the season of spring comes like the phantom killer.
The bunny that tells lies find it's way.
The bright-red garden and the decaying of ashes.
It covers itself in pure white.
Reaching out for another, regretting until death...
Repeating again and again...
The violence and the darkness of the burning heat entwines in my heart,
and it intersects with the unwavering fact of tomorrow.
The other side of death.
An abundance of rain ensnared by the faint sky.
It pours down forcefully like suicide of the future.
-Buried at sea-
We must nurture character.
Praise immortality.
Salute the slyness in breeding.
The worst of existance.
Dive like hell and destroy.
Show me your lewd self.
It pours down forcefully like suicide of the future.
Praise immortality
Pseudo suicide
Don't care about how you look
The bunny that tells lies find it's way.
The bright-red garden and the decaying of ashes.
It covers itself in pure white.
Reaching out for another, regretting until death...
Repeating again and again...
and it intersects with the unwavering fact of tomorrow.
It pours down forcefully like suicide of the future.
Praise immortality.

btw there's some mistakes here((( correct it pls. not "abundace" but abundance.. here another translated version (i do not own it so pls, do not claim me for being wrong: i do not own these lyrics:
Expose yourself
Hunted down by the dim sky, a tremendous rain, Suicide to the heroically cast aside future, Buried At Sea Disposition that must be bred, a salute to corruption
Salute the slyness in breeding
Affection that becomes good-natured and flickering pleasure bear resemblance to Suicide Don’t care about how you look
In spring filled with agitation like a phantom killer the rabbit of falsehood and vice will be sussed out, Disgrace decays together with the garden of red lotuses, Shrouding the body in pure white in repentance until we reach our last breath, reaching our hands out again and again… it is repeated
With vehemence, this scorching darkness coiled around inside my chest, mingling together with the unwavering future
The other side of death
Hunted down by the dim sky, a tremendous rain, Suicide to the heroically cast aside future, Buried At Sea Disposition that must be bred, a salute to corruption
The worst existence
Dive like hell and destroy
Show me your lewd self
I think this song's meaning can only be discerned if you look at this single alongside Uroboros. I recently read a blog posted about their two Nippon Budokan shows in January and it pointed out that the Saturday show began with "Sa Bir" followed by "Vinushka." The Sunday show ENDED with "Vinushka" followed "Sa Bir." The author of the blog post understood the significance of this and stated that it symbolized the entire cycle of reincarnation - a theme prominent on Uroboros. Their final set list for their Uroboros tour began and ended in a full circle.
Now, this is where "Hageshisa to, Kono Mune no Naka de Karamitsuita Shakunetsu no Yami" comes in. Obviously, one theme of this song is death. The phrase "repeating again and again" is perhaps a reference to the cycle of reincarnation. "The bright-red garden and decaying of ashes" could be a reference to Hell - or a metaphor for the realm one passes on to after death. The line "it covers itself in pure white" is the rebirth, or beginning of the new cycle that repeats "again and again."
The cycle of reincarnation is a prominent theme in Hinduism (correct me if I'm wrong) and if this single is linked to Uroboros at all, it would be symbolic of Dir en grey moving on to newer material. "Hageshisa to" contains references to breaking the cycle of reincarnation - thereby becoming free and reaching greater spiritual plateaus. Dir en grey wants to "destroy" the endless cycle of reincarnation, which they deem "the worst of existence." "The other side of death" could be considered a reference to what will happen after breaking the cycle; or, literally speaking, what new ventures Dir en grey will partake in.
Sorry for the wall of text but that's just the meaning that dawned on me after thinking about it. It's probably a stretch...but, hey, it's the meaning I'm taking from it. I just hope Dir en grey continues writing powerful music and that this single won't be their last.
I Like Ur Interpretation,But It Could Also Means Braking A Habit,I Kno Kyo Isn't Religious,So Him Naming An Album After A Religion Is Kinda Hypocritical,I Think Its Somthing That Has To Do With The Band And There Songs Are Trying To Send Us A Message,Or At Least Talking About There Problems,I Mean Music Is Course A Way Expressing There Own Mind,I Hope They Don't Break Up,But Its Not Like That We Could Do Anything To Help,Kyo Favorite Band Broke Up,So If His Band Broke Up Wouldn't That Be Like Repeating History??...

Now that the full PV is out, I think you've got a huge amount of evidence backing you up, Dissonant.

As I'm sure we know, the gist of the video is Dir en grey being eaten alive by insects. Them being devoured by bugs is probably a reference to the act of decaying/ decomposing, in which insects or decomposers speed of the rotting of the corpse by eating away at its remains. Obviously, decomposing is asociated with death, making a definite connection your opinion. Furthermore, Dir en grey is being eaten alive by the bugs, which could...

I never would have thought of that without your interpretation, so great work and thanks for shedding light on this song.
Um...no. The song is about the Japanese unit 731, in which horrible experiments were conducted on live humans, including vivisections and exposure to plagued flies. Of course, that's merely the tip of the iceberg, but still.

Um. Look at when I posted my INTERPRETATION of the song. February. No one really knew what it was about back then and still there is no concrete evidence that the song is about unit 731. Unless you can show me proof that a member of Dir en grey has stated that Hageshisa to is about Unit 731, then all anyone can ever do is figure out their own interpretation of the song and come to their own conclusions. Who's to say this particular song does not hold more than one meaning? That's the beauty of music.

Well I think kyo just enjoys writting about death and rebirth which are in MOST of his songs, but i agree with Dissonant. Music has more then one meaning and we wont truly know what the true meaning/meanings of the song is unless we ask Kyo and we all know he wont tell us, so let ppl come to their own conclusions ^_^

I read that blog, too! and i personally thought it was about reincarnation as a band until i saw posts about unit 731. now i'm torn. both seem like the sort of thing kyo would write about.

i think there's an even more relevant subject here than reincarnation--kyo alludes to spiritualism, sure, but not without also discussing the human nature. i believe that kyo is suggesting to humans that we expose ourselves--debunk our facades and live honestly--for the sake of the future, so that we break the cycle of lies that extends from generation to generation, essentially destroying us (i think he believes that beneath our facades, we suffer; we sacrifice ourselves to integrate with society, and in abandoning ourselves, we unknowingly engage in destructive behavior). societal facade is a common motif in his work, so it's not too far-fetched. the tone is different here though--it's not so much that there's a note of POSITIVITY as there is less negativity, less of a misanthropic tone than before. which is also not too far-fetched considering kyo's constant self-reinvention.
basically, expose yourself for who you are, your lewd self. no longer sacrifice yourself for the sake of assimilation lest the cycle of destruction continue.
ermm... should it make one worry kyo's writing bout death and suicide? ok, earlier in the songs there were regret, despair n so on n so on... but not mentioned suicide from this side.. gotta think bout song..
No we dorn't have to worry most of their lyrics are very similar and I'm sure Kyo knows if he dies or kills himself there will be many copycat suicides and he cares beleive it or not.

... he wrote about suicide in The Final too. 4 years, 2 albums, and this single later, Kyo is still here. I think you're taking his lyrical content too literally =/ I mean, look at the other stuff he's written... like ZOMBOID. I highly doubt that is his own personal experience xD

That's a very rude thing to assume.

Of Course He Cares,But That Doesn't Mean He Still Won't Do,Look At All Musicians Who Killed Themselves,I'm Sure They Had A Big Fan Base,But For Whatever Reason They Could Take "It" Anymore

@the_sleazoid, its not really assumption, he's kinda said it before, constantly in interviews he says he does this for him, and he does what he does onstage for him. He does care slightly, since he never reads fan emails (due to a suicide he didnt take seriously and regrets) and he has begged the audience to still love him when his voice went bad, but he really doesnt like to admit it lol. @gerryevil,idk, I believe kyo is stronger than that, as a person, he really has reached self-realization.

but yes, I agree, you shouldn't take the lyrical content too seriously. As a metal fan, I have seen much much darker lyrics concerning topics like this, and its usually for shock value, its never anything that should be taken as something the vocalist really desires. thats not to dismiss any message they are trying to put across ofcourse, but still, I think he has it good to want to end it all already.
@ Kyoku Lol, I agree! Whenever im looking at pics ppl post, you never see ppl with kyo, its usuaally die or kaoru or shinya. toshiya sometimes, but kyo practically never XD

AH!!! I don't know what to do! I want the "official" translation, but the translation dirume posted sounds so much better! I DON'T KNOW WHICH TO TAKE.
Going with the comment above, wouldn't it be safe to say that this single COULD represent the end of Dir en Grey, either a split-up or hiatus? Making music is a repetitive cycle kind of like reincarnation if you think about it, and if they want to destroy this reincarnation cycle, it could mean they want an end. Or it could just mean that they're separating from their last album.
I did consider that but I'd prefer to not dwell on it. But considering the fact that they have been the amazing band we all know and love for over a decade - without taking more than a month or two for a break - any hiatus they decide to take would be well-deserved. I just hope they put out one more album at least. Not only do I believe that it will be their most artistic and emotionally powerful album of all, I just want to see them live one last time.

Actually, Kaoru said they're recording new material for 2011.

Anyway, it feels more like this album is more about the band maturing and looking back on themselves. It kind returns to their earlier work, but obviously in a completely new way that embraces their current selves. Kyo said for him "Uroboros" is most similar to "Macabre" except that they accomplished whatever they were trying to do with the album a bit better this time. (In his GIGS interview, I think)

Does anyone else feel like MARROW was just this really angry album. The lyrics were mean and hateful and the sound was pure pummeling rage. I think MARROW reflected Kyo's feelings at the time... His interviews around 2007-08 were very depressing to read. He was really suffering somehow. I think with Uroboros he's kind of gotten his shit together... Just my intuition.
I definitely agree with you on the subject of Marrow of a Bone's atmosphere. Perhaps each member had demons to face during the writing/recording of that album. It is without a doubt their most furious album.

Their album Kisou demonstrates an extremely wide range of style yet it sounds distinctly reminiscent of Asian music. I view their formation to the releasing of Kisou as their first "era."
Their second "era" is everything leading up to Uroboros. With the release of Six Ugly they began incorporating more Western elements into their songwriting but it took them several releases and years to finally mix their unique oriental sound with their new influences. The final product of this fusion between their influences is obviously Uroboros. Going from Vulgar, to Withering to Death, to Marrow of a Bone their music got noticeably darker and heavier. Vulgar and WTD still retained some of their distinct Asian sound while Marrow got rid of it completely. WIth Uroboros they were able to fuse the two and come to a sort of spiritual release as well.
Depending on the sound of their newer material, I'd have to say that Dir en grey are entering a new phase. A phase that I bet will be centered around their emotions, opinions and views more so than before.
Also, I believe their decision to play older songs such as Bottom of the Death Valley and Akuro no Oka is another way of waving a final goodbye to their days as a Visual Kei band and to usher in a new era for the band.
"The bright-red garden and the decaying of ashes. It covers itself in pure white."
I Think He's Referring To Poppy Flowers (which is what they make into heroin and other narcotics),I Hope Nobody Hates On Me For Saying This,But I Think Kyo Is A Drug Addict,He Talks About April/Spring When Poppys Bloom,I Can't Say For Sure,But Coming From Someone Who Has Dabbled With Drugs,Could See A Drug Addict
Just Look Up Poppy Flowers In Bloom.....
Egnirys Cimredopyh +) an injection alludes to drug use as well. So it is possible that he does or has experimented with drugs. Either way I'd still support him. We also may never find anything out about their personal lives which is totally fine by me. Observing them in obscurity has its own appeal.

Well I'm Not Saying Jus Cuz He Does Drugs Not Listen Or Support Them,I Love DEG.But I Heard Someone Say That Kyo Is Starting To Hate The Band Cuz There Drug Addicts,I Can't Confirm This,But It Would Make A Little Bit Of Sense On How Their Musical Taste Is Leading More To Aggressive And Hateful Theme.

I don't think it's the end of Dir en grey, Kaoru posted a blog on myspace:
" We are actually writing some new songs and are in the studio recording them. It's still going to be some time before the release but we hope you look forward to it. "
10 May 2010.
Fans, be reassured, anti-direngreys, be desperated :3
Sorry for my bad English~
There's been some speculation that the song is about Unit 731, and going with the video, it seems to be a viable option. It's also really hard to generate opinions with only an english translation to go by, especially with Kyo using so many double-entendres and word plays, in Japanese.
I think you're right. There is a lot of stuff in the video that you could link to unit 731's conduct. limb amputation and wound festering. "the other side of death" could be a link to the group themselves they are dealing the death so it could be said they are on the other side of death i.e. not the recipient. And the pure white could be related to the burning.
