I think you're right. There is a lot of stuff in the video that you could link to unit 731's conduct. limb amputation and wound festering. "the other side of death" could be a link to the group themselves they are dealing the death so it could be said they are on the other side of death i.e. not the recipient. And the pure white could be related to the burning.
