Going with the comment above, wouldn't it be safe to say that this single COULD represent the end of Dir en Grey, either a split-up or hiatus? Making music is a repetitive cycle kind of like reincarnation if you think about it, and if they want to destroy this reincarnation cycle, it could mean they want an end. Or it could just mean that they're separating from their last album.
I did consider that but I'd prefer to not dwell on it. But considering the fact that they have been the amazing band we all know and love for over a decade - without taking more than a month or two for a break - any hiatus they decide to take would be well-deserved. I just hope they put out one more album at least. Not only do I believe that it will be their most artistic and emotionally powerful album of all, I just want to see them live one last time.

Actually, Kaoru said they're recording new material for 2011.

Anyway, it feels more like this album is more about the band maturing and looking back on themselves. It kind returns to their earlier work, but obviously in a completely new way that embraces their current selves. Kyo said for him "Uroboros" is most similar to "Macabre" except that they accomplished whatever they were trying to do with the album a bit better this time. (In his GIGS interview, I think)

Does anyone else feel like MARROW was just this really angry album. The lyrics were mean and hateful and the sound was pure pummeling rage. I think MARROW reflected Kyo's feelings at the time... His interviews around 2007-08 were very depressing to read. He was really suffering somehow. I think with Uroboros he's kind of gotten his shit together... Just my intuition.
I definitely agree with you on the subject of Marrow of a Bone's atmosphere. Perhaps each member had demons to face during the writing/recording of that album. It is without a doubt their most furious album.

I look at Diru's discography this way:
I look at Diru's discography this way:
When they formed and began touring extensively throughout Japan and other asian countries, they began incorporating many different sonic elements evident in Asian music. Their album Kisou demonstrates an extremely wide range of style yet it sounds distinctly reminiscent of Asian music. I view their formation to the releasing of Kisou as their first "era."...

Their second "era" is everything leading up to Uroboros. With the release of Six Ugly they began incorporating more Western elements into their songwriting but it took them several releases and years to finally mix their unique oriental sound with their new influences. The final product of this fusion between their influences is obviously Uroboros. Going from Vulgar, to Withering to Death, to Marrow of a Bone their music got noticeably darker and heavier. Vulgar and WTD still retained some of their distinct Asian sound while Marrow got rid of it completely. WIth Uroboros they were able to fuse the two and come to a sort of spiritual release as well.
Depending on the sound of their newer material, I'd have to say that Dir en grey are entering a new phase. A phase that I bet will be centered around their emotions, opinions and views more so than before.
