Last of My Kind Lyrics

[Verse 1]
So young, so brazen, so unholy
I come to you in painted skies
Your broken saint, your ancient story
The living challenge to their lies

[Pre-Chorus]
Trapped in the cold outside
There ain't no shelter
And they want to force my hand
Until I take what I wanted
And break all the lies
And defeat the fucking liars
Smash all the temples
And crawl through the rubble
And cry to the fallen

[Chorus]
I'm the last of my kind still standing
I'm the last of my kind still standing down the law

[Verse 2]
A wolf alone upon the hillside
I live on what they throw away
I go to sleep behind the eight ball
I live to fight for one more day

[Pre-Chorus]
I'm trapped in the cold outside
There ain't no shelter
And they want to force my hand
Until I take what I wanted
And break all the lies
And defeat the fucking liars
Smash all the temples
And crawl through the rubble
And cry to the fallen
Take what I wanted
And break all the lies
And defeat the fucking liars
Smash all the temples
And crawl through the rubble
And cry to the fallen

[Chorus]
I'm the last of my kind still standing
I'm the last of my kind still standing down the law

[Guitar Solo]

[Chorus]
I'm the last of my kind still standing
I'm the last of my kind still standing down the law

[Outro]
The last of my kind still standing
The last of my kind still standing

To me this song is about being an old school grunge rocker from Seattle. There aren't many left since most have passed away (mainly thinking about Kurt and Layne here).

I agree.

I don't agree because a lot of Seattle rockers are stell alive. Unfornuately, some have passed but not all.

@Rebphoenix Never thought of it this way. While it might not have been the intended theme of the song, it does fit perfectly. In a very angry way at least. The fucking liars should be the rest of grunge rockers, since AiC is the last one still actually rocking. Pearl Jam for instance is doing unplugged shit these days.

i think this song is a sting at religion for how the church ostracizes anyone who isn't amongst their ranks, while ignoring that we are poor, starving, and in pain, yet preaching that giving a helping hand to people in those circumstances is the right thing to do...i guess they leave that up to Jesus eh?

Genius.

On the contrary, it is the Christ singing in this song, buddy. He's angry at the world, and at you.

Observe Isaiah 63: “I have trodden the wine trough alone, And from the peoples there was no man with Me. I also trod them in My anger And trampled them in My wrath; And their lifeblood is sprinkled on My garments, And I stained all My raiment.

For the day of vengeance was in My heart, And My year of redemption has come.

I looked, and there was no one to help, And I was astonished and there was no one...

Agree, probably about being rejected by the church and feeling like an outcast.

It vaguely reminds me of Communist Russia back when they would exile those who oppose the government to Siberia. The government acted like they were holy, closing down churches-- they were the sole power and faith in them was the only option. From writings the ones who opposed felt as if they were all alone, spread out over the vast country. It seems almost as if the man knows they're wrong and he knows they know about him but he's exiled in Siberia (the cold) and he metaphoricly compares the government with religion and how he wants to destroy it.

Yeah, i know its 99.9% wrong but its how i saw it. Hope you enjoy my interpretation

@SouthernPunk777 could be applied in the essence that religion is Communist Russia in this song ... that they are the only "right" option, and all other choices will lead to your darkness.

Does the chorus remind anyone else of Rob Zombies "Dragula"?

Either way, great song.

@mattjames2010 I can see where you get that from ... but only very vaguely. I wouldn't have put the two together though.

If they ever have the balls to make another "Highlander" movie this should be the title track. Couldn't you picture Connor MacLeod in the final fight scene chopping off the last immortal's head off while yelling, "There can be only one!" with this song in the background? Totally kick ass.

I saw the new AIC with Will. They opened with "Them Bones!" You couldn't pick a better opener if you tried. This band can still rock your face and kick your ass. Don't be fooled by their age or new frontman.

It seems to be about the elders and the temples of love. He's the last man standing while some fell into heaven and some into hell. He's alone because he's not one of 'them' nor is he really living but he's not in the matrix of the unconscious. He has no one to shelter him from himself or the world so he goes back to sleep and fights through another day. But the time has come where he's been called on to take what he relly wanted (i think this is probably to be enjoying his life with the living) but then to deliver his message and to destroy the temples of love (dogma/blind faith/guilt/coverteousness etc) and the little white lies. He doesnt really want to because he understands the consequences however he isnt jesus, he's just another man nailed to the cross so he will be forced to because he has no choice. Good song...about shame and pride...in my 'umble opinion.

this song is about seeing life through the eyes of a dog and seeking a good owner.

But "I'm the last of my kind still standing" doesnt make sense

@Phil778 he is the last of his kind left ... that is he feels lonely as others like him have either passed away, submitted to others or changed their ways to no longer be like him.

I think "last of my kind" in this song is referring to someone who will stand up to a group or individual who is wrong, deceitful, "evil", or any combination of the three. The person is ostracized by the "liars" but he burns his bridges, crush those who harm him, and proves that there is truth and life outside of their shallow views and outlooks, meanwhile "cry[ing] to the fallen", or showing remorse for anyone hurt in the way. "Last of my kind," or lone wolf.

@undeceived15 I agree....I've lived it..and still am.
