Showbread – Myth of a Christian Nation Lyrics 14 years ago
Just because YOU personally haven't experienced it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. This song is spot on in regards to certain churches. Where I live, the Bible is abused to promote blind patriotism to a country that they want to transform into a "Christian nation." Also you're misinterpreting the last lines. It's the flag that means nothing to him--not freedom. This song is correct once placed outside of your ideal Christian community.

I'm pretty sure it's:
I try to write a song
As sweet as these psalms the one the type to bare arms

Against Me! – High Pressure Low Lyrics 15 years ago
I agree with thefiredhearts; it does a mini history flashback on North Korea then back to Vietnam. Both verses I think have different messages, if you read the last lines of both of them: "And I wonder what is real and what is fiction." and "And I wonder have I lost my own compassion?"

Envy on the Coast – Like I Do Lyrics 15 years ago
I thought this was like a dark forgiveness sort of thing. With the breaking of vows line I feel like the song is about a man and his wife who are both cheating on each other. They find out about each others' affairs, and agree, to save the marriage, to kill the other man and woman. Then they climb into their bed and are a happy family.

Envy on the Coast – The Great American T-Shirt Racket Lyrics 15 years ago
Definitely agree with the twloha idea. Some people also need to realize that just because he mentions God or whatever doesn't mean it's explicitly about religion. They can also be metaphors.

Envy on the Coast – The Devil's Tongue Lyrics 15 years ago
I agree. It's almost like he's trying to be a good person by saying "keep it together" but at the same time he doesn't like the people telling him how to live his life cause he doesn't give a damn what they think is right and wrong.

Envy on the Coast – Death March On Two, Ready? Lyrics 15 years ago
Great start to the album. I definitely think this is about the Confederacy and how people in the South are still trying to keep it alive. Things like "They say you're in the blood so you're runnin' through whatever is in your veins" is talking about how the Confederate pride is typically passed down from generation to generation. "We took the chains off but kept the rebels" seems to be talking about how America freed the slaves but kept the rebels/South. I don't feel like explaining the rest, but I think it's a great start lyrically.

Blood Red Shoes – Heartsink Lyrics 15 years ago
No comments? awesome song off the new album. One correction though, "The greatest let down least/(Taste in my mouth)" should be "The great let down leaves a/(Taste in my mouth)" if I'm hearing it correctly, plus it makes more sense.

On to the meaning. I feel it's about someone who's searching for whatever will fulfill their life (religion/love/success/etc.) and they go from town to town being let down from all the happy lies people have told him regarding adventures. In the end, even though he still hasn't found it, he still knows its out there

Against Me! – I Was a Teenage Anarchist Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm all for changing sounds and experimenting with different things, but my problem has more to do with what this site is about: the lyrics. I know people change as they get older blah blah blah but this is a giant "fuck you" to his past, his friends, and his old fans. "The politics were too convenient." Honestly? That's the worst excuse ever. I would've rather him say "the cash was too easy" of all things..

sounds like it could be very related to the Spartan way of life and how it revolved around war and fighting entirely for males. very sick song

The Raconteurs – Many Shades of Black Lyrics 16 years ago
When it says "there's many shades of black," it could be a reference to what Henry Ford said about his cars in the early 1900s:"you can have any color as long as its black"[i'm paraphrasing]

it could be like, he's only had one choice [his current girlfriend/lover] this whole year and he can do whatever he wants as long as it has to do with her, like he's trapped.

Alice in Chains – Last of My Kind Lyrics 16 years ago
It vaguely reminds me of Communist Russia back when they would exile those who oppose the government to Siberia. The government acted like they were holy, closing down churches-- they were the sole power and faith in them was the only option. From writings the ones who opposed felt as if they were all alone, spread out over the vast country. It seems almost as if the man knows they're wrong and he knows they know about him but he's exiled in Siberia (the cold) and he metaphoricly compares the government with religion and how he wants to destroy it.

Yeah, i know its 99.9% wrong but its how i saw it. Hope you enjoy my interpretation

The Almost – Your Love Is Extravagant Lyrics 16 years ago
Why? because you like it better? last time i checked, you have the right to go start your own band and right your own lyrics. Aaron is a Christian so as a Christian, he loves Christ. Why would he hide that just cause other's don't like it?

Anti-Flag – A Song For Jesus Christ Lyrics 16 years ago
seriously? uneducated? Paul, who wrote the majority of the New Testament was educated at the highest Roman standard of that time; Moses who wrote the Decalogue [the first 5 books of the Bible] was trained under the Pharoh of Egypt; David and Solomon were KINGS. Also, the Bible states that the Earth was round. Your acusations are bullshit.

I take this "song" as a joke, and if it was serious, then they should of put more time into explaining their standpoint. Anti-flag's political songs have always been spot-on but this is a clear miss.

Blessthefall – To Hell And Back Lyrics 16 years ago
this is more of a reply to shineHislight:
The Bible can be offensive because people can get offended when their sins are pointed out to them and they're condemned to hell for eternity. "cussing" isn't wrong, and is only a classification of a few words deemed "bad" by society, if i called you stupid or a dumb ass you'd be more offended by dumb ass because you've grown up thinking that was worse and you shouldn't say that. Revelations says alot of thing people could take offense to. I'm glad Blessthefall had the balls to say a word other faith influenced bands shy away from. MxPx "cusses" too, i've heard Mike say fuck and Yuri say damn, and there's no God damned thing wrong w/ it.

Green Day – Before the Lobotomy Lyrics 16 years ago
i think Billy throughout the years has always attacked religion in general but when people think religion, some of the first religions they think of are Christianity and Islam. I think its easier to reference to Christian objects when taking stabs at organized religion because its more widely known. Now w/ Islam being the fastest growing, i'm waiting to see if people will start using references to it, being just as much hypocritical. i'm not sure taking stabs at religion is making any progress though, the best way to fix something is from the inside. i've already stated what i think this song's about..

your evaluation sounds a bit distorted unless i read the article wrong. it doesn't seem to be Coca-cola as a whole but Columbia is screwed up in itself and the leaders of Coke down there are taking advantage of it. Dead Kennedys – Trust Your Mechanic Lyrics 16 years ago
You see it in the commercials(sp?) all the time, the drug/med commercials say they can cure your "disease" but come w/ a shit load of effects, like head aches and vomiting. they may "cure" one thing then screw you over w/ the side effects. and then there's the prices... same w/ a mechanic. they just wanna suck up the cash and have you coming back. luckilly i personally know a mechanic so i trust him alot, and he'll show you what he's doing, not just keep you up at the front desk and act like your an idiot.

Good song, not one of the stand-out songs on the album but a solid one none the less. Pretty obvious what the core of the message is, but does anyone get the meaning behind "Coca Cola execution"?

The Devil Wears Prada – Wapakalypse Lyrics 16 years ago
I think what they are saying is neither anti-Bush nor anti-Obama. It seems to me that it's showing a trend - which is how the people are never happy w/ the results of their actions. We all blame the president but what about the government in general? I dislike both presidents but you can't push ALL the blame on either of them when they have tons of people under them making decisions as well. Back to the point of the song:

"Dear tomorrow,
Find some sensibility
Respond to emotion" -here he's asking the future to change and realize what we're doing wrong right now.

"Dear politician,
Define sagacity" -Alot of the politicians act like they have the answer and every one else is an idiot. he seems to be asking the politicians to stop acting like they've got all the wisdom in the world [maybe not the best answer here..]

"One after another, nobody stands behind the ones they have chosen" -The people are unhappy w/ those they have elected, referring to basically any President as all of them have had low points where people regret choosing them.

"All changes of survival are beginning to diminish" - maybe saying this cycle will eventually diminish and fade into when people realize no man can save us? i'm not sure here..

"Comedy is no excuse for our own blasphemies
Mass Media/Mass Pessimism/Mass Denial
My television tells me to panic, but I don't think I'll listen" -here i think he's saying that we make fun of our leaders to put off the despair of how far they're taking us down but at the same time we have to look towards how we can make it better and be wary of what the media tells us.

"The apathetic force us to persevere
The apathetic, with their backwards priorities
If only the strongest of stone was not necessary" -everyone criticizes the gov but few actually do something to fix things. not sure what he means by the stone comment though

"We could build a memory:
Liberation includes failure
Your rebellion is resultless
So be angry at yourself
If only we did not deserve this" -All of the Political hate is fueled into a black hole of angst and criticism that no one does anything about so in the end its our fault.

Hope all this helped, again, i could be wrong but hopefully this is close.

Green Day – Know Your Enemy Lyrics 16 years ago
It may be anti-war but it isn't anti-Bush, not every song criticizing the gov is anti-Bush. Being "anti-Bush" should have never been a style, it should have been a common belief but sadly people hated him just because other people did.

Green Day – Song of the Century Lyrics 16 years ago
Great intro to the cd, has a kind of kids gathering around their grandpa for a story feel to it. Definitely builds your anticipation and flows well into 21st Century Breakdown. From what i can tell the two verses seem to be divided into a Bush-Obama style each verse summarizes what's come about so far in each of their presidencies. I'm doubt this is really what its about since the music was most likely finished before Obama became president but, hell, it fits.

Green Day – Last of the American Girls Lyrics 16 years ago
Lyrically similiar to "She's a Rebel" but quite a bit better lyrically. I'm starting to see that alot of songs are similiar to AI songs, but lyrically are far more well written, w/ an exception of "Know Your Enemy" [which i still think was meant to be repetitive]. Unlike "SaR" Billy Joe[who i'm guessing is writing in Christian's perspective about Gloria?] seems to be more of a bittersweet song about how Americans need to speak out for what we believe and the breed of Americans that do that is dying; and less of a young rebel love kinda thing.

Green Day – Before the Lobotomy Lyrics 16 years ago
From what i can see, Christian has been reminiscing [sp?] and relizes the best of the past ("Songs of yesterday/Now live in the underground") and his dreams ("I can hear them singing/When the rain had washed away/All these scattered dreams") have been shattered by the end of the century and he's given up on love ("I'm not in love 'cause I'm a mess"). I think it also has to do w/ how the leaders try to make everything seem ok and not to worry 'bout the past ("We are normal and self-controlled/Remember to learn to forget/Whiskey shots and cheap cigarettes"). That's all i've noticed so far, and i can't wait to see what other people turn out on the meaning and how this fits in to the full album's storyline.

Green Day – Christian's Inferno Lyrics 16 years ago
This seems like an alternate reaction to "Letterbomb" from lyrics like "I got the rejection letter in the mail and/It was already ripped to shreds... ...Maybe maybe you're the chemical reaction/I am the atom bomb" Its like an instant reaction right after he got it. Maybe Christian is another alternate Jesus of Suburbia like St. Jimmy was? and i'm not sure if he meant the 'Christian's inferno" is meant as a reference to Dante's Inferno or not..

Green Day – Murder City Lyrics 16 years ago
It sounds like a story similiar to American Idiot's, except the guy's name is Christian and someone else (the singer). From what i can see is Christian and Billie are in a city full of chaos and murder.
"The clock strikes midnight
In the Murder City

I'm wide awake
After the riot"

They've tried to revolt and change things because they feel like they're ablee to fix it somehow but so far nothing's worked
"Desperate
But not hopeless...

We are the last call
And we're so pathetic"

idk, i could be wrong because i've just read it over a few times. it'll help once the album comes out. i sincerely hope this isn't a bullshit slow album 'cause they've had so many great songs in the past i'd hate to see them go soft.

Dead Kennedys – Plastic Jesus Lyrics 17 years ago
Throughout all of Dead Kennedys songs on relition, Jello has never condemned FAITH which is completely different from the perverted ways of religion. He never stated that Jesus never existed, and in 'Jesus was a Terrorist' it makes it seem like he believes He did exist. Religion is stupid and I agree w/ Jello here, but Faith isn't which Jello never seems to criticize. There's a fine line between the two.

Dead Kennedys – Jesus Was a Terrorist Lyrics 17 years ago
This song explains the very reasons i am wary of saying i'm a Christian. There's SO many "super-Christians" that think they can tell everyone how to live their life and hate them if they don't automaticly agree w/ their denominations as a whole. Christ spent time w/ whores and filthy politicians in order to reach them, yet today's 'Christians' won't go near one. I completely agree with the Mark Twain quote. Most Christians I talk to wanna take the government and make everything that is a sin in the Bible illegal. THAT'S WRONG! I believe in Christ whether you like it or not but i DO NOT believe that gay marriage should be illegal or that drugs should be illegal. It's not the governments job to force people to think how other's think. The Christian majority is screwing over the rest of us. Religion as a whole sucks... and denominations make it worse. This song needs to be blasted over all of the churches.

Bowling for Soup – Punk Rock 101 Lyrics 17 years ago
ugh, guys shut up. seriously. everybody's gonna have their own opinion on what 'punk' is and if it still exists. personally, i think its still around, but there is no ONE definition to punk. same for punk music. i get called a punk al the time because i have a decent height fauxhawk, i spray paint my clothes, i skate, and listen to the music 'no one else knows about'. i dont really care. and really dont think anybody should label themselves other than to associate themselves w/ the things they enjoy [in reference to my username i enjoy everything from shooter jennings to the ramones, therefore giving people a clue as to my diversity NOT to pose, look 'cool' or show off] bowling for soup is a BAND that plays MUSIC i dont give a shit whether you think they're punk or pop or rock and they probly dont either. listen to the stuff YOU like and dont give in to the stuff people tell you is 'better' if YOU like it listen to it.

Destroy the Runner – Isabella's Lyrics 17 years ago
In my eyes, I think it's about how the world is really against people different and believing something other than the things they want you to accept. I see it as a call to not care what they think and trust what you believe even if they try to discourage you.

Also, I'm loving the new style for DTR, but i think they should've screamed the "Down on you, Down on you!" part.
