Last night I had a dream
That you decided to leave me
And no matter what I said
My persuasion fell upon your deaf ears

Don't leave me here alone
I'm not so good on my own

I'm not so good
I'm not so good on my own

Is it too late? Am I too gone?
Is there something I should know
Am I working for nothing?
Will there ever be anything to show

Is it true? I don't know what the storybooks have told
Though I wouldn't be so bold to say so
Will I do what I'm told? Will I play my hand or fold?
Will I stand my ground and hold? I would like to think so

If I just walked away
Would you still save me
Or would you take back all that you gave me

Is it too late? Am I too gone?
Is there something I should know
Are we working for nothing?
Is there anything to show for the service
Is it worthless? All the waiting is the hardest part

Come home my dear because I love you. I love you still

It's a slap in the face
When I feel my complacency grow
It's the thrill of the chase
When you catch it you just let it go
I take for granted the grace that is given me daily I know

How can you say that you love me when all that I want
All that I want is your blessing and then I am gone
Nothing I do can make up for the things I have done

Love is all we need
We're gonna make it
So let's close our eyes tonight and just believe

i could be totally wrong, BUT! i feel like this song is about a struggle of a guy that feels like hes let God down. he feels like hes already messed up so bad that its too late and hes too far gone for God to save him or even care about him anymore. And maybe the reason hes sort of "fallen away" from God is because hes started to doubt his faith "are we working for nothing? is there anything to show..." this whole "come home my dear because i love you" would be God saying something like hey man, its all good i'm not going to leave you. But the guy still feels discusted that hes complacent with where he is in his faith, and he feels like he just comes back to God to get a blessing and make everyitng right before he goes off on his own again... haha, idk that was quite a bit to type if im totally off.

jackamunda I agree with what you said. I think this song is about a guy who has probably been a christian for a while, and wonders if the work he has done as a christian has amounted to anything. He wonders if it is too late for him to make a difference anymore. That sums up the first part of the song. In the third verse, God is saying come home because I still love you. Then it shifts back to the guy's point of view, where he says It's a slap in the face when I feel my complacency grow, I take for granted the grace that is given to me daily... referring to the grace of God. In the next section, he says nothing can make up for the things I have done, again the guy is feeling he is too far gone for God to save. Finally, at the end, the person realizes that God's love is all we need, and that God will forgive him. I am pretty sure this is correct, because in the cd insert it explained it this way too. Keep in mind this is a Christian band, and though not all of their songs are christian, this one is.

    My Opinion

I love this new song, it's really good, both lyrics and the way it sounds. =) I think the meaning is pretty much laid out right in your face in the lyrics - pretty easy to figure out.

However, could someone explain the title to me? "Ten Talents" - how does it relate to the song? Thanks in advance!

MMM. excellent song, i guess, the 'ten talents' is relate to the song because of the biblical parable!!!! maybe in the way he worked hard for the relationship ( as the man in the parable worked to double the five talents teh master gave him), and made the things right, but later, you know...the song changes to his personal issues!!!

    Song Meaning

This song is definately about walking with Christ. The singer is in some sort of constant struggle where he feels like he constantly fails his savior, and he wonders if his savior can find it within him to forgive the singer for his terrible and consistant deeds. By the end, the singer has found God's love again.

jackamunda is completely correct and the title does come from the biblical parable

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
