He wonders if it is too late for him to make a difference anymore. That sums up the first part of the song. In the third verse, God is saying come home because I still love you. Then it shifts back to the guy's point of view, where he says It's a slap in the face when I feel my complacency grow, I take for granted the grace that is given to me daily... referring to the grace of God. In the next section, he says nothing can make up for the things I have done, again the guy is feeling he is too far gone for God to save. Finally, at the end, the person realizes that God's love is all we need, and that God will forgive him. I am pretty sure this is correct, because in the cd insert it explained it this way too. Keep in mind this is a Christian band, and though not all of their songs are christian, this one is.
