It's in this wake that I find myself
Losing the will to resume this hell
When every breath is a dying wish
It's harder to follow the point of this

This broken place that I call my home
Is deep in the sorrow that I have sewn
And I can't erase what is in my heart
I wanted to finish before it starts

My own solution insufficient again
No false illusion, this devouring threat
I break the vessel, giving air to its red

And open my fate to the darkened sky

I've been fading away
I've been waiting on a call to reach my veins
Ready or not
No attention to waist
Every sorrow of the soul will reap my name
When I cease to exist

So, now I've come to a final sleep
I pray that forgiveness is mine to keep
I know it's hard to forgive this man
Driving the failure into your hands

My own solution insufficient again
No false illusion, this devouring threat
I break the vessel, giving air to its red

And it's open my fate to the darkened sky

I've been fading away
I've been waiting on a call to reach my veins
Ready or not
No attention to waist
Every sorrow of the soul will reap my name
When I cease to exist
When I cease to exist

I've been fading away
I've been waiting on a call to reach my veins
Ready or not
No attention to waist
Every sorrow of the soul will reap my name
When I cease to exist

I've been fading away
I've been waiting on a call to reach my veins
Ready or not
No attention to waist
Every sorrow of the soul will reap my name
When I cease to exist
When I cease to exist

Quite Frankly This song means alot to me. This song basically represents my past few years of christianity. I think this song talks about how you can still be a christian and still wonder from the path. The whole idea of old habits coming back. In my case depression is a major issue. this is basically talking about depression. "It's in this wake that I find myself Losing the will to resume this hell When every breath is a dying wish"

"This broken place that I call my home Is deep in the sorrow that I have sewn And i can't erase what is in my heart I wanted to finish before it starts" here he is talking about how he cant erase what has happend in the past, but he wants to finish what he started. Again probably referencing our want to sin.

In the next stanza he talks about how we all try to find ways of not feeling the guilt of our sin.."My own solution in discretion again" and how we are always waiting for something...some calling "I've been waiting for a call to reach my veins Ready or not"

In the last stanza i think hes just talking about himself and how when he dies he has a salvation and forgiveness is his to keep because Christ came and died for our sins. "I know it's hard to forgive this man Driving the failure into your hands" Here hes talking about how he shouldn't have been forgiven and i think the driving the failure into your hands has reference to the cross about the nails, but instead the weight of sin."

I find this song painting a picture of someone who is faultering and finds there way back.

I gave my boyfriend the special edition with the DVD of Storm The Gates Of Hell for Christmas. I find this song to be almost suicidal. "Losing the will to resume this hell When every breath is a dying wish" It also speaks of the "false solution" To me, this song is nearly a direct reference to suicidal thoughts/feelings.

This song is about a life that is without Christ. It shows the desolation that is a life without Christ. Depression leads to suicidal feelings, and, as the song says, Our own solutions are insufficient. In the end the man asks for forgiveness for his sins and is forgiven.

This is what I get understand the song to mean.

"It's in this wake that I find myself Losing the will to resume this hell When every breath is a dying wish It's harder to follow the point of this" These lines seem to be contemplating the point of living.

"This broken place that I call my home Is deep in the sorrow that I have sewn" Deep in the sorrow that I have sewn, referring to the mess this person has made in their life.

"And i can't erase what is in my heart I wanted to finish before it starts" This person feels hopeless, and feels like they can't change the way they feel.

"My own solution insufficent again No false illusion, this devouring threat" Trying to fix the problems on his/her own has gotten them nowhere.

"I break the vessel, giving air to it's red and open my fate to the darkened sky" I break the vessel, giving air to it's red, talking about Harming his/herself in some way, and open my fate to the darkened sky, is talking about dealing with the consequences that come with those actions.

"I've been fading away I've been waiting for a call to reach my veins" This person seems to want help, but isn't receiving it.

"No attention to waist Every sorrow of the soul will reap my name When I cease to exist" This person isn't feeling what he/she feels, or doing what he/she is doing for attention, but rather because they truly do feel this way, and "every sorrow of the soul will reap my name when I cease to exist" seems to be saying something like they're going to miss me when I'm gone. I'm a little fuzzy on that verse.

"Now I've come to a final sleep" Seems to be talking about when the person dies.

"I pray that forgiveness is mine to keep" They hope they will receive forgiveness for the things they've done.

"I know it's hard to forgive this man Driving the failure into your hands" Not exactly sure what this line is referring to. Possibly Christ when he was on the cross, and by us doing things that aren't right or whatever, it pains Jesus. Just a guess. Pretty sure I'm wrong though.

    "When I cease to exist"

I think this song is really about feeling alone and not being noticed until you're not there anymore. I agree with berserkerray about how "I know it's hard to forgive this man Driving the failure into your hands" means that with all the sins we've committed its hard to be forgiven

I see a lot of this song reflecting a chronological view of someone who's struggling with the weight of the world.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
