Ragoo Lyrics

I want to say here's to me to go and change the world
And I want to play until they are kicking down the door
And I’ll be alright as long as I ain’t seen as all
And I'm holding tight to that night we had a ball
We had a ball

Here’s to the kids out there smoking in the streets
They’re way too young but I’m way too old to preach
They know it all but they still ain’t seen the truth
Just play my song and I will show it all to you

Either way you caught me whilst a lying
You caught me whilst a lying
You caught me with my pants down

My pawpaw's slave had to go and fight the war
He beat them all and then he took them all to court
My pawpaw called and he said "do you remember me?"
Now he's workin' awful hard in his factory

Either way you caught me whilst a lying
You caught me whilst a lying
You caught me with my pants down

We ain't even been to the ocean
We've been running barefoot the stream
We've been running barefoot through the streams
We ain't even been to the ocean

(We ain't even been to the ocean
We've been running barefoot the stream
We've been running barefoot through the streams
We ain't even been to the ocean)

To me the song is about being young, having morals, making mistakes, growing as a person and wanting to guide others, yet being unsure of what is actually right.

What a brilliant song.

Well said. Couldn't agree more.

I agree that this song is amazing. I would just like to comment on the outro. I do believe that the lyrics posted are correct. I think that when he says:

"We ain't even been to the ocean We've been running barefoot the stream We've been running barefoot through the streams We ain't even been to the ocean"

I think that the stream eventually empties into the ocean. I think that he means that we haven't seen the entire picture and what lies ahead. I think that he mean that we have seen so little and think that we know so much and it's not until we reach the ocean that we realize how little have seen, how little we know, and how vast it all is. I think that he uses the bare feet as a symbolic representation of a child at play.

"You caught me whilst a lying You caught me with my pants down"

My favorite part. This song is amazing! I don't even care what it means.. I love Kings of Leon.

I see this song differently.

doesn't the author of this song accuse himself in the third person that what he says in his songs may not be true?

Either way you caught me with your lyin You caught me with your lyin You caught me with my pants down

In the two first verses I thinks he's saying: I'd like to change the world, so it would be more my way (kicking the door). But does he see all the facts, is his way really right? He's just a guy who parties all the time. And he is even glad that he doesn't know everything.

He'd like to show the kids that even through they think now what are they doing, they might not seen the full picture. The lyrics in the songs they listen to, don't show the truth, but the world seen by the person who writes them. But if he said it straight like I do, he'll just appear as a square to the "kids" and they would not listen to him, that's why he encourages to listen his song.

I guess that thought suggests the next line about his father, that he had a totally different life it seems, full of hardships, but in the end the author of the song doesn't like to listen to him as well, because he's old. And his life was totally different because he wasn't an artist. But the ironically the words of the father are worth more, because they come from someone who knows more about life then the author.

In his songs, in this one to be exact, his saying that he may sound like he knows about life, but in the end he does not, it might be just an illusion. The last lines are a metaphor of this:

We ain't even been to the ocean We been runnin barefoot through the street

This song is clearly an irony towards the the band and what they do. And shows that the guys are modest, and still walk with their two legs firmly stuck to the ground.

I want to say it's to me to change the world And I wanna play till they kicking down the doors And I'll be alright as long as I ain't seen it all And I'ma hold you tight to that night we had a ball We had a ball (Its up to him to make his mark on music, hell be fine if he doesnt get corrupt in it. Ill still love you if im on top of the world because we had a moment.)

Here's to the kids out there smoking in the streets (youth doing what they think is cool) They're way too young but I'm way too old to preach (they're too young to open their yes and listen becaues hes older than them.) They know it all but they still ain't seen the truth (know it alls that dont actually know anything) Just play my song and I'll show it all to you (listen to my music and Ill show you whats cool)

Either way you caught me with your lyin' You caught me whilst a lyin' You caught me with my pants down (you caught me lying, cheating and having sex)

My papa's slave had to go and fight the war (his papa's worker had to fight in the military) He'd beat 'em all then he took 'em all to court (he then had to compromise by working his employees hard, they then felt mistreated and sued.) My papa called and he said do you remember me (is calling because KOL has success) Now he's working awful hard at his factory (screwed up and is paying for it)

Either way you caught me with your lyin' You caught me whilst a lyin' You caught me with my pants down

We aint even into the ocean (we are not mega rockstars yet) We been running barefoot this spring (weve been crazy in this underground rock scene) We been running barefoot through this spring We aint even into the ocean

My Interpretation

This song is all about people propping themselves up to appear a certain way and then just calling them out on their BS. Saying one thing and doing another, or going against your original word.

Ragoo is a reference to Ragu brand sauce. Real ragu sauce is made from scratch but Ragu brand is canned and made to appear legit...even though its not: this is why they call the song Ragoo. They spelled it wrong to point out that they can see through everyone's bullshit including their own.

1st verse: is about wanting to take over the world with their music until fans are kicking down the door...but then they really wouldn't care if they don't see it all and he's just fine with the success he's already had (we had a ball).

2nd verse: Kids on the street acting like they know it all but won't listen to him because he's too old to tell them how it really is. Stubborn teenage mentality etc. They appear to know everything but don't have the life experience to back it up.

Chorus: He obviously got caught with his pants down having sex and lying about it.

3rd Verse: A military guy fighting for his country but not giving a damn about actual people in the country.

His dad owns a business and his worker (slave) wanted to join the military to fight for the country. So his worker did great at the war and returned back to and came into some lawsuit money (took em all to court). His dad then called and said "do you remember me" asking for some financial help...but obviously got none because he as to work awful hard in his factory.

Outro: The band sings together telling everyone they've only been running barefoot in the stream despite you thinking they've been all the way to the ocean.

Its all about hypocrisy.

this song is so amazing. i didn't realize how good it was until a few listens. Very upbeat, probably one of the most upbeat songs on this album. These lyrics i think are a little wrong. The last part should be:

We ain't even been to the ocean We been runnin barefoot through the street

it's not streets, it's streams! they print all their lyrics right in the cd case

nono, she meant that it should be streets even so, i think that streams goes perfect because it goes along with the meaning of the ocean, streets would be totally out of focus

wow i love the chorus of this song...it sounds bittersweet, happy but it makes you feel sad

I heard 'we ain't even been to the ocean' initially as well, but I can see how he could easily be singing this too...it's hard to tell...

i totally get a 'Police' vibe from this song, which is totally different from anything KOL's given us before, either way amazing.

Trying to figure out what this song is about is nuts, i'm thinking it's his lifestyle

The first verse is about him feeling that he's responsible to change the world in the position he's in. His life was sheltered growing up & he'll be okay if he doesn't see everything. He's holding onto the memories of growing up having fun in his sheltered life

The kids in the street part is about how kids think they know everything, & shouldn't be doing the things they are but he knows they won't listen because he's older & if they listen to his music, they can learn something.

I think the chorus is like.. he feels vulnerable with his music, because it's all of his feelings & experiences & baring his soul to the world.

The correct lyrics for the next verse are: My papa’s slave had to go & fight the war He'd beat 'em all then he took 'em all to court My papa called & he said 'you remember me?' Now he's workin' awful hard in his factory

[i have no F-ing idea what this means & i'm too tired to attempt it]

The 'We ain't even been to the ocean We been runnin' barefoot through the street' could be about his rural lifestyle or about touring & everything being so raw.

i totally agree about how hard it is to understand this song... It's been driving me crazy! I cant decide if its happy or sad or what it's referring to!
