Breath Lyrics

I see nothing in your eyes
And the more I see the less I like
Is it over yet
In my head

I know nothing of your kind
And I won't reveal your evil mind
Is it over yet
I can't wait

So sacrifice yourself
And let me have whats left
I know that I can find
The fire in your eyes

I'm going all the way
Get away
You take the breath right out of me
You left a hole where my heart should be

You gotta fight just to make it through
'Cause I'll be the death of you
This will be all over soon
Pour salt into the open wound

Is it over yet
Let me in

So sacrifice yourself
And let me have whats left
I know that I can find
The fire in your eyes

I'm going all the way
Get away
You take the breath right out of me
You left a hole where my heart should be

You gotta fight just to make it through
'Cause I'll be the death of you

I'm waiting
I'm paying
Realize
Start hiding

You take the breath right out of me
You left a hole where my heart should be

You gotta fight just to make it through
'Cause I'll be the death of you

This song could also be about someone pursuing a girl, but the more he discovers about her, the less he likes because she is ripping him apart as he unsuccessfully tries to win her over..

The more he tries to persist and keep chasing her, the more angry or regretful he finds himself feeling, which could begin to make him a colder person.

Eventually he confronts her about whatever was holding the relationship or whatever back, and it fills her with guilt so she begins avoiding him out of regret or guilt for what she did.

Ure a real genius.....this does in fact make sense

This really does make sense. It's what this song means to me. Had that exact situation happen to me.

This makes perfect sense too. i just went through that and i had to start hating to get over it cause she was ripping me to shreds. The more i found out, the more i hated, the more i confronted, the more guilty she became... Great job!!

kinda wish crap like this would stop happening.

I know im on the way late train with this one but I just heard it and I totally love it. I agree with Artemisa - Kind-of. I think he is talking to himself. He is suffering from addiction. He sees nothing in his eyes but yet he knows he can find the fire in them if only his addicted self could sacrifice itself. The more aware he becomes of his addiction the less he likes himself. Is it over in my head means he doesnt know which will win.and let him have whats left. I know nothing of your kind - means he is in denial. He will not reveal to anyone not even himself his evil mind. Is it over yet I cant win- he feels weak and cant beat his addiction. lPouring Salt in an open wound is addiction. Is it over yet let me in- once again he feels week but after salt in the wound which hurts the most he gains confidence and demands to be let in back . Now for the chorus: sacrifice yourself - only one will prevail. let me have whats left-self explanatory. I know that I cant find the fire in your eyes his addicted self tells his true self. Im goint all the way- hes determined so get away - hes demanding - please -but still feels weak becauase addiction takes the breath right out of him and left a hole where his heart shoud be. You gotta fight just to make it through - hes gaining strenght over his addiction cause I will be the death of you. Hes going to kill his addicted self. Thats what I get. I liked tendos interpretation also.

@vickiofca that is exactly what this song is about.

This song is very deep and emotional. I think it's about being in love with someone when you know you shouldn't be. It's about resistance and denial, loving and wanting someone so badly but also hating them at the same time because they don't feel the same way, or because they can't be with you. I think it could also be about being obsessed with the person you love, and having them consume your mind and thoughts. Because you can't be with them your mind turns everything into something that it's not, analyzing their every move/word and haunting your memory, and you wish your feelings would stop - for it to simply be over ('is it over yet, in my head').

I can relate to the lyrics, especially 'you take the breath right out of me, you left a hole where my heart should be'. These lines explain the suffering and heartache felt by someone who is battling through an unrequited love. 'I'm going all the way, get away, please' - I think this shows the paradox of wanting someone badly, but also wanting them to leave and get as far away as possible because you know you can't resist them even though you should. 'Please' almost sounds like begging to me.

The bridge of this song really hits home with me too - 'I'm wishing, I'm praying, realize, start hating'. It's the viscous cycle you go through in your head about this person. Wishing and praying you could be together or that they'd finally understand how you feel, then realizing it's never going to be what you want, then hating yourself for feeling that way and possibly hating that person because they will never be with you in the way you need. The scream on 'hating' in this song is so effective because it truly captures the pain, anger and frustration felt within when you realize everything but simply cannot accept it. It almost sounds like giving up.

I could go more into depth with the amazing lyrics here, but it would probably take far too long. I love this song so much, and I love the fact that this band is able to illustrate such powerful emotion and longing.

My Interpretation

@sapphire14 definitely the way I understand and feel this song, as I could totally relate to that once in my life. hope never agian

@sapphire14 You described it perfectly..

@sapphire14 - This song hold so many different meanings and emotions for me. I feel like I lived it, felt it every time I would watch & hear him sing it. It's been yrs since the relationship and still to this day certain songs take me back. Such a deep emotional connection. Just not our time.

Hey geniuses,

If any of you were REAL obsessive fans you would know that the lyrics to the third 'verse' (and I say verse because I'm not sure what else to call it) are:

I'm waiting I'm praying Realize Start hating

If you don't believe me look it up. I own the album (which has the lyric in the little cover booklet) or, look it up on Breaking Benjamin's official site: http://www.shallowbay.com/lyrics/phobia/breath.htm?height=300&width=300

the song is about a guy who breaks up with a girl and is hurting from it ad he wants the pain to go away

Song Meaning
Cover art for Breath lyrics by Breaking Benjamin

IT IS PERSONAL STRUGGLE WITHIN HIS OWN MIND He is looking at himself in a mirror and battling his own internal demons (thoughts). It is depicted by the lyrics which are two-fold, coming from two different sources within the one individual. Yes, the conflicting voice inside all of us.
He's practically caught in the middle of his own self demise/ self destruction and on the verge of losing his good natured identity to the grim person he knows that he is becoming.

My Interpretation

@rkoac1 yes!!! Nailed it

i believe that this is about a relationship but the guy KNOWS that he's bad for the girl and he doesn't want to hurt her. "I see nothing in your eyes, and the more i see the less i like" that simply means that he can see in his own eyes that he's not right for her "i kow nothing of your kind, and i won't reveal your evil mind" that means that he's not as nice of a person as she is and he doesn't want to corrupt her and make her evil "So sacrifice yourself And let me have what's left I know that I can find The fire in your eyes I'm going all the way Get away please" here he is asking her 2 let him do what he needs to do 2 save her, that she needs to not like him anymore "I'm waiting I'm fading Realize Start hating" he's waiting for her 2 forget him and start hating him "You take the breath right out of me And left a hole where my heart should be You gotta fight just to make it through 'Cause I will be the death of you" he loves her with all of his heart and knows that he's bad for her and that when she finally gets through the pain of him breaking up with her, it will b ok

this song is so freaking addictive!

anyways, for me i always get this idea about it being about an unhealthy relationship between a couple who keeps breaking up and then getting back together. However in general, i think this is really just about a bad addiction.

:)

I think this song is obviously about a relationship that has gone cold. He doesn't see any love or emotions left from his girl ( I see nothing in your eyes) and he's love for her has turned into resentment or anger ( and the more I see the less I like). When he says " sacrifice yourself and let me have what's left" , I feel that he wants the girl to just put in as much effert as she can into the relationship and to give as much of her self to him as she can so he can have what's left. And perhaps he's tired of always being the one to give and not ever get anything back from her. And when he says " I know that I can find a fire in your eyes", he's saying that he knows she has it left in her to love him, like he knows deep down inside she still loves him she just has to find it again. I'm not sure if that makes sense but that's how I feel when I blare the song in my car. This is by far my favorite BB song, you can really feel his emotions in the song. It's like he's so desperate for her to just give in to him and try to make it work. Love it!

this is my all time favorit BB song ever!

its about his alcoholism ..... "i see nothing in your eyes"...hes talking to himself looking into a mirror... "and the more i see the less i like"....refering to him being an alcoholic
