The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
I'm chasing time
Looking for a beat
Open your eyes
And repeat after me
You try so hard to find a rhythm in your heartbeat
The less you know the more you want
To try to justify the secrets of your lifetime
In the end he'll come for us
So take care of you and I'll take care of me
We're just lonely hearts looking for melodies
Take care of you and I'll take care of me
We're just lonely hearts looking for melodies
Break to break it down
Will I find clarity
On a hotel floor
When I fall asleep
You try so hard to find a rhythm in your heartbeat
The less you know the more you want
To try to justify the secrets of your lifetime
In the end he'll come for us
So take care of you and I'll take care of me
We're just lonely hearts looking for melodies
Take care of you and I'll take care of me
We're just lonely hearts looking for melodies
I'm looking for a safe way out
Cause I am in the habit of breaking young girls' hearts
I've been looking for a safe way out (safe way out)
Cause I am in the habit of breaking young girls' hearts
I've been looking for a safe way out (safe way out)

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
Magical
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
Blue

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
I think that these he Is in a relationship with someone. But he feels like neither of them feel the same way they used to. And even though they don't have "feelings" for eachother anymore he is scared of ending the relationship and breaking her heart becasue he has broke so many hearts before. And in the line "you try to find a rythym in your heartbeat" I think that means that they are trying to make it better and they keep telling themselves they still are into eachother, but its just basically a lie.
It's definately "melodies" not "better days"
But I LOVE THIS SONG
definitely. I just looked at the cd inlet.
can anyone help me with this meaning?!?!
This is my favorite song! why is it that no one seems to know about A Change Of Pace?!! [i noticed that all of their songs have, at most, 3 comments...]
Also.. "In the end he'll come for us" 'He'll' should be 'to'. =)
This is probably my favourite song by them though. =)
basically he cares about this girl but doesnt want to get in a relationship with her because all he ever ends up doing is breaking hearts, even though theyre both lonely.
i agree with melodies instead of better days and i hear: In the end to comfort us
i can very much relate :/
there in a relationship tht the love is slowly fading out of and he wants it too end but he doesnt want to hurt anyone(well thts wut i think)
I love the clapping towards the end. AMAZING!
I think it's about a relationship that's already broken up. And all they want is the best for each other. They want them to 'take care'.
I don't think this is about a relationship at all. I think this is directed at people in general. They're trying to say that we need to stop analyzing our lives and looking for that "greater meaning", because in the end we're all dying. (In the end He'll come for us)
So basically just live your life and enjoy it.
And when he says "I've been looking for a safe way out, cause I am in the habit of breaking young girls' hearts", I think it's just a confession. He was calling everyone else out for looking too much into things and trying to fit everything into neat little boxes, so this is his fault that he's owning up to.
