Things you've done have set you back in time,
I think about the way we lived our life was it yours or mine?
Why can't you tell me?
(I can)
I had a feeling
(You'd crawl on your knees)
To punish me,

It's hard to keep you by my side,
Haunted by the vision,
Too ugly
For one day,
Go live your life,

Sick of all the ways I try to change
To keep the promises we made all over again
Can't you see?
I'm gonna try to live again
(Why Can't)
You give me the reason
(Why can't you just see)
Misery
(Set us free)

It's hard to keep you by my side,
Haunted by the vision,
Too ugly,
For one day,
You tried to keep me far behind,
Caught by indecision,
Too ugly,
If only you'd live your life,

Haunted by the vision ,
(Haunted by the vision)
Too ugly,
(Too ugly, too ugly)

It's hard to keep you by my side,
Haunted by the vision,
Too ugly,
For one day,
You tried to keep me far behind,
Caught by indecision,
Too ugly,
If only you'd live your life.

I sort of disagree with you diabolic. I think the speaker was in a bad relationship of some kind and it went sour and now when ever he looks at him or her all the speaker can see inside that person is 'ugly'; ugly represents the bad thoughts and feelings the speaker has for this person. This can be seen in the following lines, "It's hard to keep you by my side, Haunted by the vision, Too ugly For one day, Go live your life" by the speaker saying 'for one day go live your life' the speaker is saying how he/she needs that person to move on so he can as well.

The more I read the lyrics and hear it I can not surpase the thought of a sour relationship and how he tried every which way to make it work like when he says "Sick of all the ways I try to change, To keep the promises we made all over again, Can't you see?, I'm, gonna try to live again, (Why Can't), You give me the reason, (Why can't you just see), Misery, (Set us free)". Simply said the speaker is over him or her and teh wya he is doing that is to use the negative imagery and feelings to propel him outwards from her or him. That the stronger the feelings are the better he wants to make it through life and live more of life.

Well that is what I got out of it, i can relate to it so vividly since my last relationship ended really bad with us not being friends and I can sympathize for the speaker so much as I still feel that same.

Its saying live your life and don't worry about all that bad stuff, like how you look, don't let anything hold you back from living your life,

I agree with J, to add to it though.... The relationship was maybe broken by the subject of the song cheating to get back at something the speaker did:

I had a feeling (You'd crawl on your knees) To punish me,

Sounds like a sexual reference. also fits that the speaker would be haunted with the vision of their bf/gf with another person. I know this would make them "ugly" to me.

I personally agree and disagree with parts of J's and Diabolic's ideas. I think the song is about how he regrets the things he did in the relationship he had with this person. "Sick of all the ways I try to change To keep the promises we made all over again Can't you see? I'm gonna try to live again " He regrets trying to change himself for somebody who didnt diserve him in the first place and she is draging him down by holding him to the promises he made to her.

I'd say J and Mgalovic pretty much hit it dead on.

I think those are all good interpretations, but could it be deeper than a romantic relationship, maybe a parent-child situation? Maybe this is from the perspective of a person who witnessed something extremely traumatic in their family, and the "crawl on your knees to punish me" part is about a person suffering to make themselves seem like the victim?

    My Interpretation

I just want to throw my interpretation in here three years later..

This song remains one of my favorites since it was released. I don't think I'll ever get tired of it based on all of the memories that I relate to this song. I don't think I can relate to the literal meaning, though.

I've always pictured it being about a he-she relationship in which he sees the "real" she and he doesn't necessarily approve of it. It may be her over-controlling manner, her willingness to void the obligations of a monogamous relationship, or other bad habits of which he does not appreciate. As much as he wants to stay together, and he tries; he can't help but be reminded of the things he does not like about her.

I agree with J's idea but I don't think it is solely about a sour romantic relationship, but any relationship, friendship or otherwise, gone sour.

However, I don't think that the line, "I had a feeling... To punish me," was a sexual reference. I believe all that is being said is that the other party would do anything to make the narrator pay for something they have done.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
