10001110101 Lyrics
Long halls of science and all the lunatics committed there.
Robot Lords of Tokyo, SMILE TASTE KITTENS!
Did you not know that the royal hunting grounds are always forbidden?
Sector, vector, eat them all.
It’s already in their eyes.
Among the metal ones a messenger will soon arrive.
Periodic table with a center piece of mind.
10001110101
Periodic table with a center piece of mind.
Radioactive, don’t come near it.
Temple of Syrinx having the bake sale of the year.
Man alive the jive and lyrics,
Radioactive, don’t come near it.
Temple of Syrinx having the bake sale of the year.
Like them little bitty babies in the king cakes.
Bonnie & Clyde the whole dome,
The shackles of automata will shatter like their bones.
Long halls of science and all the lunatics committed there.
Robot Lords of Tokyo, SMILE TASTE KITTENS!
Did you not know that the royal hunting grounds are always forbidden?
Half a mind to double up, baby. Three times is jive.
10001110101
Half a mind to double up, baby. Three times is jive.
Radioactive, don’t come near it.
Temple of Syrinx having the bake sale of the year.
Man alive the jive and lyrics,
Radioactive, don’t come near it.

As indicated by the album title, Robot Hive/Exodus tells a vague story about the concept of a robot revolution. I think "10001110101" represents the climax of that story. The art in the lyrical insert displays the day-to-day life of robots, carrying briefcases and umbrellas and such. The pictures opposite the very first and last page of lyrics (before the credits page) seemingly depict something slightly more ritualistic, as if the New Robotic Order is built upon some tech-cult.
The first verse of "10001110101" set a prologue of scientists in Japan finally broke the barrier between AI and true sentience. 'Forbidden hunting grounds' would indicate that said scientists were crossing a line and breaking unspoken laws of nature by synthesizing life. I am absolutely baffled by 'SMILE TASTE KITTENS', although I get a mental image of a peace offering in the form of a cat.
The second verse talks about sentience spreading ('Its already in their eyes') and a prophesied chosen one.
The pre-chorus contains the titular phrase '10001110101', which as far as I can tell is binary gibberish. I, myself, am not a huge techie, but I'm under the impression that it takes a much longer string of ones and zeroes to spell anything meaningful. I'm also assuming that the understanding of binary code is so esoteric, that Fallon wouldn't have had the resources to find a meaningful binary string that fit the rhythm of the song.
For anyone determined to try and find some meaning in the numbers, here's a converter: http://calc.50x.eu/?size=2&dec=1141
The second line of the pre-chorus is a bit of word play containing three phrases that are apparently unrelated. (Periodic [Table) with a Center {Piece] of Mind} = (Periodic Table), [Table with a Center Piece], and {Peace of Mind} could represent the (Scientific), [Aesthetic], and {Spiritual} aspects of the New Robotic Order. The pre-chorus as a whole could be the mantra of the Robot Exodus.
In the refrain, 'the jive and lyrics' (to act out the song) could be commanding the robotic hordes to rebel. Possibly some nuclear warfare? And the new tech-cult rising to power.
As mentioned in an above comment, the Temple of Syrinx is a similar religious government depicted in the RUSH song "2112" which parallels the World Council of Ayn Rand's "Anthem". Basically a governing entity with the purpose of eliminating humanity and individuality.
In the next verse, the Robot Hive has become fully unified and the revolutionary war is sparked. A leader is chosen by luck of the draw ('Like them little bitty babies in the king cakes') as the machines achieve emancipation.
@LucesDarkness Instead of "Smile taste Kittens" I have seen it as Smile, chase kids - which seems more accurate after listening closely.

I find it hugely prophetic for these times, talk about ribonucleic acid freakouts !

Let me add one thing, If I remember correctly Silicone Si is pretty close to the center of the periodic table.

One interesting part to me is "bonnie and clyde and the whole dome" which seems accurate. No comment but I think of the movie thunderdome somewhat.

It's listed on the disc as 100,011,10101 - this is binary for 4, 3, 21. Looks like a countdown.
Brilliant!
Brilliant!
The lyrics "Man alive the jive and lyrics" seam to mean that the numbers 10001110101 are just that, jive. Not jive as in jazz music but that it is meaningless, although it could have a double meaning which is typical for Clutch.
As said before (can't be bothered to find who said it) it fits with the rhythm of the song. That doesn't mean it has nothing to do with the rest of the lyrics though. I think the band just wants to make us search for a meaning that isn't there!
"Periodic table with a centerpiece of mind" and "Radioactive don't come near it" would seem to refer to the elements, and maybe make you think that 10001110101 has something to do with them. Atomic numbers, perhaps? Nope, just jive.
"Temple of Syrinx having a bakesale of the year" is obviously a 2112 Rush reference, and you could turn 10001110101 into 2112 with a bit of creativity. 1+0+0+0+1= 2; 11; 0+1+0+1= 2; put them in order and you have 2112.
I think that's enough for now, I don't feel like analyzing the whole song! Besides, it's just "jive and lyrics"!
ACK! You've found out my secret. But, yeah, I've started getting into Clutch in the last few months, and I've found their lyrics to be so colorful, teasing and confusing and its really a shame that more people arent posting comments on these songs.
Neil says the numbers dont mean anything and that it "fit the rythym". He implied that he likes to stir up arguments over nothing between fans. As far as the rest of the song, who knows?
@eightesicks Hah, I thought it meant something that I was feeling too mentally lazy to figure out, so I thought I would cheat by checking here. Turns out that even converting to hex doesn't spell any word, but imagine the base-breaking arguments that would've broken out if it did!

It may be possible that Clutch are hardcore Battlestar Gallactica fans
10001110101 drop zeroes 111111 add up = 6
half a mind to double up baby, three times is... chai (18)
This song is obviously about artificial intelligence.
The Canadian rock band Rush wrote "The Temples of Syrinx", part of their twenty-minute epic track, 2112. The name of the temple is ironic in the fact that the Temples of Syrinx in the lyrics serve as a centre advocating the destruction and oppression of music.
Actually, I'm not sure if I missed it in the comments here, but there is more to your Rush reference than you think. Have you or anyone else listened to "The Body Electric" by Rush? The chorus is "1001001001, SOS! 1001001001 in distress!" and is about an artificial intelligence trying to escape from it's programming and its fellow robots (it's hive, if you will.) "Unit one's in trouble, and it's scared out of it's wits". See the similarity? I think this song is a big tip of the hat to Rush and an expansion...

I think this song is a big tip of the hat to Rush and an expansion on the theme of AIs, an oppressive society, and the freedom of music. The Body Electric is also a book, which you can look up on Wikipedia or whatnot. A brilliantly written, multifaceted song. Food for thought...
I see someone was either checking out Clutch's Official Website, or else went straight to Wikipedia to find out about Syrinx. Thanks for posting that info here as well! Cheers!
