Promise that you always will
Keep candles lit on the windowsill
You know I'll be comin' home

You know I never wanted to go away
But what am I supposed to say
When I hear the sounds of the trumpet call
Who says

All is fair in love and war

Your pictures kept close to my heart
Letters all but fall apart
Each night I read them over again

You know I never wanted to go away
But what am I supposed to say
When I hear the sounds of the trumpet call
Who says

You know I never wanted to go away
I swear
It's war

I think this song is about a guy missed his girlfriend/former girlfriend...He may have screwed up in some way, and they split...."You know I never wanted to go away, but what am I supposed to say..." All is fair in love and war, i think means that love can sometimes make you do stupid things, and its justified..He just wants her to remember him for the good times I think.

I think this song is just about being separated, and not having any control over it. I dont think it shows enough to say that its about a broken relationship, as such. But Skelly may be right, I dunno.

In my opinion this song is about the trials of war. when a soldier gose to war he leaves his loved ones behind. "But what am I supposed to say When I hear the sounds of the trumpet call" he cant do anything about it he has so go so "what is he suposed to say" as i said before this is about the trials of war in my opinion

Sounds like a man who had to leave his family behind in order to fight in war for his country.

i agree its about war. mabe not his personal experience becasue it doesnt sound all to personal to me and doesnt go into great detail.

a loved person at home with a vigil inthe windowsil to represent the hope of the soldier returning.

"who says all is fair in love and war"?

they know that anything can happen while hes away because nothing is fair in love and war. he has a few tangiable photos and letters that he reads over again but them "fallin apart" recognise the pain in himself that it was not his choice to go away and there is nothing he can say that will reassure the loved ones at home that he definately will be coming home.

Personally I think that the song could mean one of 2 things for me.

The first could be about someone whose life has been so deeply rooted in war that they are more apart of that world than that of the world they lead during peace time. Therefore when the trumpets of war sound the call again he as much as he might regret or wish otherwise must answer that call.

The second scenario I think about when I hear this song is about someone who is in a constant state of war within themselves. Someone who is such a prisoner to their emotions that whenever the proverbial trumpet calls they are forced to march and carry out what that feeling is leading them to do. Even though it may be wrong and even tho deep down he may not wish to, the bonds of war inside him are too strong to let him go.

I dont know just my thought. s

I think this song is about his job, he is a rock star, when he says "When I hear the sounds of the trumpet call ", he is saying that he has to go, it's his job, he's going on a tour, and for the first time he is far from home for a long time, cuz in the end life is a war, and this is what he's got to do, for himself, for his family. And when he says "Promise that you always will Keep candles lit on the windowsill ", I think he is remembering she said that no matter what happens she will keep their love flame burning.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
