It's a sort of sarcasm to himself. Like everyone he knew dropped him, so now he only cares for himself. But if your listen to the way he sings "goddamn i love me" you can clearly tell that he is saying it in a :cause no one else will" kind of tone.

I'm also digging the idea of just caring about yourself and being distant so you don't have to deal with bullshit.

I love this song though, one of my favorites.

As egotistical it might seem at a first glance, I think this song is more about a person who was overly optimisitc, or overly trusting, and their hopes were crushed or the person they put their trust into betrayed them. The person retreats into himself, he decides the world is full of terrible people, and he's the only one who matters, and he's the best person there is. "I don't care about anyone else but me" It sounds pretty selfish, but also sad. This sort of "From now on, I'm only looking after myself, screw them, I won't be crushed anymore" I think we may have all felt like this at some point, I'm sure I have.

I'm tearing away (Loss of self/he's beating himself up) Pieces are falling I can't seem to make them stay (He tries to talk and say right things they go wrong and get worse) You run away Faster and faster you can't seem to get away (She's trying to make distance but it doesn't help him stop thinking of her; or she's being polite but basically effectively stringing him on)

Hope there's a reason For questions unanswered I just don't see everything (He can't talk openly to her about questions he still has, or at least can't trust what she's saying to be true anymore so same effect) Yes I'm inside you Tell me how does it feel to feel like this Just like I do (Possible ideas: 1) He wants her to still care and thinks maybe she's BSing and still does, 2) He knows she wont tell him to get away so he likes making her awkward because it's all he's got now and she's trapped so they're BOTH trapped in his mind in a similar way, 3) He can't move on and as long as he's making things hard for her she can't find anyone new thus still in his mind similar.)

He's doing it on purpose though; and he doesn't know why he's still hanging on either to just torturing her, or maybe to the idea of getting her back. Maybe, just holding onto the pain?) Can you believe it? Everything happens for reasons I just dont know (If it all happened 'for the best' he may be induced to let it go; but there's no proof yet?)

NOTES: 1) It could be another guy lol; I assumed 'her' but even if he wasn't gay you can write a song about an idea and not mean it directly to your life. 2) I don't think he's advocating it, he's just expressing the experience of someone who is in this position. Maybe he's even trying to reveal the attitude to comment on how it's pathetic. It's certainly not presented as glorious or functional behavior.

ya it does...its awesome I especially like the chorus. its about someone who thinks there so much better than everyone else, probably someone the songwriter knew.
