this song is exactly what the title is...passionate. ben is one of the most honest and passionate singers i have ever seen perform. the new album is wonderful....i highly recommend it.

I saw them live a few months ago...and I must say. This is one of their best songs live.
Ben Gibbard (from Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service, and All-Time Quarterback) played drums on this song and on the album this songs on called "Bridges Worth Burning"

"This was the first song written with Ben Gibbard on drums. We were really into Bjork and I’d been wanting to put a break-beat in a song. I didn’t finish the lyrics until the last minute. I remember sitting by the water in Seattle while Gibbard tracked his drums for the demos. It was a beautiful day and I just didn’t feel right bitching. And I definitely didn’t want the first song on the record to be a downer. Even though life was a pretty big downer at the time, I really made an attempt to get a positive notion in there. Whether I was successful or not is ultimately up to the listener. Recording Bridges Worth Burning was a monster. The record was rehearsed in three days, recorded in five, and mixed in two. It was a really fun experience. It felt like jazz."
ben is incredibly passionate and even though i haven't really ever thought about what this song could possibly mean, if anything, this song is incredible from the break-beats to the lyrics to ben's voice.
i've always thought this song is about two people who, for whatever reason, are making out and heading to bed when they shouldn't be. cheating most probably. he's saying to be passionate, not hold back, because this may be the only time they're able to be physical with each other.
