Greg Laswell – What a Day Lyrics | 10 years ago |
For me, this song is saying that there is always beauty, and there are always difficulties. I see this song as looking past all of that and saying that amongst the good and the bad, it is always a good day to be alive and experiencing this humanity. |
Passenger – Patient Love Lyrics | 10 years ago |
"And though you will not wait for me, I’ll wait for you" I think this song is really beautiful and I love it, but it also makes me a bit upset. He is waiting for this woman even though he knows that she might never return to him. And it's incredibly romantic how he's saving his special moments to share with her whenever she gets there. But why is it romantic? Why isn't it helpless and desperate, at best, misguided? Why does this man get to turn his waiting into a beautiful thing when my own wait is so painful and fruitless? |
Greg Laswell – I'd Be Lying Lyrics | 10 years ago |
That line, "I'd be lying if I ran away" is what really gets me in this song. His devotion is such that, regardless of whether she's willing to go for it and see what they can be together, it would be a *lie* to leave her. He doesn't say, "I'd be hiding if I ran away" or "I wouldn't be telling the whole truth if I ran away." There's a distinction between failing to say something true and saying something that is distinctly not true. He loves her so much that leaving her would be distinctly untrue. That's pretty cool, I think. |
Missy Higgins – Temporary Love Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I feel like this is part 2 to "Unashamed Desire." Evidence: "We get one sweet moment in the arms of youth" -Unashamed Desire "Yeah this is one sweet moment but it ain’t going to last" -Temporary Love |
Josh Garrels – Ulysses Lyrics | 12 years ago |
"So tie me to the mast of this old ship and point me home Before I lose the one I love, before my chance is gone." I've just started listening to this album, and am at the point where I can't really remember which song is which yet. I was listening to this song, left my iPod mid-song, came back later, and was like "oh, I think that this is one of the songs I like less. Maybe I should skip the rest." But I didn't skip it. And as soon as I pressed play, those lines started, and it was so beautiful. I love it. |
Mat Kearney – What's a Boy To Do Lyrics | 12 years ago |
"I've been looking round for someone to tell me who I am." Yeah, I love Mat Kearney. |
Anna Nalick – Car Crash Lyrics | 12 years ago |
you're missing a stanza after the "maybe i will..." stanza: "i think i love you like a car crash one more move and there's no looking back oh, won't pull away, my forever by the wayside let me go, let me go angels raise accusing eyes, I'm gonna lose him let me go, just let me go" not positive on the third line, but that's what it sounds like she's saying |
Wakey!Wakey! – LGA Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Also, the line is "It's enough if you're saying that it's love" not "Say enough, if you say it not is love" |
Ron Pope – A Drop In The Ocean Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I've been in love with this song for about 2 years now, but it's never made complete sense to me until now. I just figured out what it's about for me. You go into a relationship or whatever knowing it's going to be short term: we have this much time together and then for whatever reason, we have to go our separate ways. So it's not going to be serious, just about enjoying time together. But even though you know from the first moment it isn't going to last, you let yourself fall into it. And you feel so much more than you ever intended. And you dream, and imagine, even though you know it has to end, that you'll be together forever. That it'll never end. And then your time runs out, just as you always knew it would. And you're left feeling so much, and it's over, and there's absolutely nothing you can do. Nothing at all. |
City and Colour – Sorrowing Man Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"In this perfect madness, you're living on borrowed time." I feel that line. |
Ron Pope – If You Were A Stone Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I see it as like...they're both into each other, but she's not convinced that he's the one. He's completely devoted to her, but she's still looking. He's willing to hold on to whatever she'll give him, and wait forever, until she realizes that he's the one. There's no one else she needs. |
Wakey!Wakey! – LGA Lyrics | 13 years ago |
this is beautiful. these lyrics are so poetic, it blows me away. the sentiment in this song is so painfully present throughout the entire thing. that feeling of being left behind...it's expressed so perfectly. |
A Fine Frenzy – Elements Lyrics | 13 years ago |
MuggleMagic, I see that line as the speaker essentially saying that she can't stop herself from making a mess of things. "I cannot stop my rebel hands" suggests that she's acting without thinking, but can't seem to slow down to think about it or stop herself from doing something she'll regret. Then, the image of pulling out the pots and pans...especially in this song with all the weather reference, for me this line is about noise. I envision her madly pulling pots and pans out of the cupboard and all the pots and pans, and all the other contents of the cupboard clanging to the floor. It's loud, and it's messy--just like the relationship expressed in this song has become. |
Ron Pope – I Don't Mind If You Don't Mind Lyrics | 13 years ago |
DaKeepa17, I got the lyrics off another website and posted them here without checking them. I fixed them so that they're now the same as the "The New England Sessions" version. As for the meaning...I'm not sure, but I think it's about desperation. Like, about being so willing to be whatever a person needs from you that you will sacrifice yourself for them. In desperation to please this person, you're all right with anything, and don't really mind how you're doing so long as it's what that person wants. I could be completely off base though. |
Rilo Kiley – Does He Love You? Lyrics | 13 years ago |
this song makes me hate men every time i listen to it. maybe that's the wrong interpretation, but it always seems to me like the women in the song have this innocence about them. really, they're not, but i always just have this sense that the situation is completely the husband's fault. as silly as that sounds. |
Ron Pope – Summer Is Gone Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Everytime this song comes up on my iPod, I'm like mehhh whatever...not my favorite Ron Pope tune. But then, if I keep listening, it gets to the "Won't you please just stop screaming at me" part. And the rawness and the truth are so painfully beautiful and fill me with awe every time. |
Ron Pope – Tightrope Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"Virginia, I can hardly breathe I've forgotten how to sleep And your face still haunts my dreams when I'm alone" I think that's the most painfully honest thing I've heard in a long time. |
Ron Pope – If You Were A Stone Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"If you were a tree then I'd be the earth Clutching your roots as you reach skyward" Wow, I love that. So much. |
Ron Pope – Seven English Girls Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"Sleeping leads to nightmares, cause I never can forget." <3 Gorrrrgeous. |
Lifehouse – Bridges Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song really clicks with me. It makes me remember this friendship I had for many years. We were really great friends, and we just sort of...fell apart. And there's no hope for going back; we've been really awful to each other in this horrible passive-agressive battle. And I realize that I'm better off without her, because now that we're not friends, I feel so much happier and healthier. But sometimes I miss all our good times. We both did wrong, we burned our bridge together, and now there's no hope for us. |
Ron Pope – Shoot out the lights Lyrics | 13 years ago |
that was an obnoxiously long comment. sorry guys. |
Ron Pope – Shoot out the lights Lyrics | 13 years ago |
these lyrics have many problems. City lights the water as the snow forgets the sky And we're staring at the bridges just like every other night We've been watching for a miracle We're praying for a sign When the cure is made of poison then it's hard to rest your eyes If it's time Oh Lord Shoot out the lights Shoot out the lights Heavens shake with anger and the clouds They curse the ground And I'm screaming for an answer but the darkness blinds me now We will not survive on misery We will fill ourselves with love We are searching We are hopeful We are anything but lost If it's time Oh Lord Shoot out the lights Shoot out the lights Shoot out the lights Shoot out the lights Shoot out the lights I see the stars in black and white I pray to God most every night I see the stars in black and white And I pray to God most every night (Shoot out the lights) I see the stars in black and white (Shoot out the lights) (Shoot out the lights) And I pray to God most every night (Shoot out the lights) (Shoot out the lights) And I see the stars I see the stars (Shoot out the lights) I see the stars I see the stars (Shoot out the lights) I see the stars most every night (Shoot out the lights) (I see the stars in black and white) Shoot out the lights Shoot out the lights (I pray to God most every night) Shoot out the lights Shoot out the lights (I see the stars in black and white) Shoot out the lights Shoot out the lights (I pray to God most every night) Shoot out the lights (I see the stars) (I see the stars) I see the stars in black and white And I pray to God I pray to God |
Mat Kearney – Annie Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This is interesting, just because I know two different people named Annie, and this song reminds me of both of them. I live in a small college town, so a large percentage of my high school's graduating class just filters into the college. So Annie and Annie both wanted to get out, rather than get stuck being townies for life. One of them got out--she's going to college on the other side of the country. The other Annie didn't make it out. She's going to school in town. But they both had this "gotta get out" mindset, so this makes me think of them. |
Mat Kearney – Never Be Ready Lyrics | 13 years ago |
i absolutely adore this song. it's got sort of a double meaning for me. 1) I'm right on the verge of a new relationship. So this song is sort of like "come on...it's worth just going after it. just make the move & go for it." 2) My senior year anthem. Just because...you have to move on to life after high school. Which is difficult but...you've gotta do it. |
Mat Kearney – Never Be Ready Lyrics | 13 years ago |
i was hoping that maybe it was for the opposite reason that he skipped over it--maybe it's too personal for him to talk about or play live. |
The Frames – Sad Songs Lyrics | 14 years ago |
WOAH. I just finished listening to this for the first time...it was this version...just Glen. In an elevator. With his guitar. It's AMAZING. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M85War0k8G8&feature=related |
Mat Kearney – City of Black & White Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I absolutely love the parts where he's saying "Won't you just stay?" The idea behind it is simple, but the emotion is powerful and very easy to relate to. |
Ingrid Michaelson – Corner of Your Heart Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Well, it has already been said like a million times, but I think this song is just about loving someone so much that you'll give up everything you want for yourself just to have whatever small piece of themself they are willing to give you. It's a beautiful song and, yes, the message is one of desperation...but it's not the speakers desperation. I think that in this song, Ingrid isn't trying to say that she dislikes the fact that she is willing to give up so much for this man--in fact, I think she's completely fine with it. I see it as her being like "Yeah, he doesn't love me as much as I wish he did...but he does love me a little. And that's enough for me." |
Regina Spektor – Wallet Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I feel like the wallet is like a metaphor for a way of life. She finds the wallet, which is an organized, predictable, and safe way of living. You know where your receipts are, you've got all your money in it's proper place, you can just open your wallet to remind you that you have a beautiful family--but the life isn't perfect. After all, he did lose the wallet, and let his driver's license expire. Her life is so different (the blue rubber band): it's chaotic, unorganized, and inconstant. She's always just hoping she'll be able to find what she needs. So she goes through his wallet, trying to see what it would be like to live that kind of life. She sees the safety and comfort of that kind of life. With his wallet in her hand, she has the opportunity to live that kind of life. She could throw out all the contents of the wallet and fill it in with her own, thus starting to live her own life in that fashion. But she chooses not to. After looking through his wallet and seeing what her own life could be, she decides to continue living the way she does, knowing that she can make the man happy by giving him his life back. |
Brooke Waggoner – Come Love, See My Hands Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I get this feeling--especially in the last stanza--of just emptiness. It's like she's saying "Come look at me. You have all of me, I am empty. See how you've left me feeling empty." She's just a shell of herself with nothing inside. |
City and Colour – The Girl Lyrics | 14 years ago |
they got married in Dec. 2008, btw.. |
The Weepies – Nobody Knows Me At All Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"I don't give a damn, I'm happy as a clam Nobody knows me at all" ahh what a wonderful line! love it. |
A Fine Frenzy – Bird of the Summer Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think "A brown headed stranger, with a five-letter name" refers to the guy she was in love with for the summer rather than a bird. |
The Swell Season – I Have Loved You Wrong Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I adore this song...especially the "on my mind"s at the end...so hauntingly beautiful. |
Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová – Once Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Heart: "F*ck the rocks." Brain: "But we'll all die." Heart: "Poetically." :D |
Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová – Low Rising Lyrics | 14 years ago |
this song is so good....i really love this line: I wanna drink with you All night, till we both fall down i'm not really sure why...i guess it just seems like he's being really honest and saying that he wants both the best of times and the worst of times with her...just so long as she is there with him. |
Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová – Fantasy Man Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i'm in love with this song.. |
The Avett Brothers – Laundry Room Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"Tonight i'll burn the lyrics, cause every chorus was your name" absolutely beautiflul |
A Fine Frenzy – Elements Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I especially like the line about "A history so deep it hurts to look". I think that's a concept that's relateable for a lot of people. Sometimes it hurts so much to look back on the happiness you used to have, the happiness that you have lost, that you would just as soon forget it. |
Joshua Radin – They Bring Me to You Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i thought it sounded like ingrid, but i wasn't sure. thanks :) |
Ingrid Michaelson – Locked Up Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This stanza is pure genius: "If I was 17 I could find it in between The cushions of somebody's couch I could find it I could find it If I was 17 I could find it in a dream A dime a dozen kind of love I could find it I could find it But I'm not 17 And I lost it in between the birthday cakes And past mistakes that roll on by" I love that concept, of the teenage thought that everything is love, and then growing older just to find that you can't find love anywhere anymore. The general school of thought is that teenagers don't know what love is, but this song gives it a different light: it feels better to fall in love all the time than to not be able to find it at all. |
A Fine Frenzy – Happier Lyrics | 14 years ago |
to me, it sounds like she is trying to convince herself that she'll be happier without him, instead of telling him that she'll be happier |
Savage Garden – Two Beds And A Coffee Machine Lyrics | 14 years ago |
this song is so beautiful... |
The Script – If You See Kay Lyrics | 14 years ago |
ahaha i thought of britney's song too... |
Joshua Radin – They Bring Me to You Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Who is the girl who is singing backup for him? |
A Fine Frenzy – Blow Away Lyrics | 14 years ago |
completely unexpected from a fine frenzy...in fact, i thought it was feist the first time i heard it. but fantastic. |
A Fine Frenzy – Think of You Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i don't agree with missme...i don't think that thinking about her makes him happy. She thinks of him "whenever life gets me down", which makes me think she thinks that if she had ended up with the other man, she would be happier, her life would be better, etc. I think she's rather melancholy because he obviously moved on, but she just pretended to. |
Cheyenne Kimball – Full Circle Lyrics | 14 years ago |
definitely losing your virginity. |
Kate Voegele – Inside Out Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I feel like the feeling of the entire song can be summed up in 3 lines: "I am awake, it's getting late I'm in no state to be alone now Yeah, I'm alone now" It's about being crazy about someone, and that feeling you get at night when you're trying to fall asleep, but can't because all you can think about is that person, and how much you wish they were lying next to you. They make you crazy, flip you around, turn you inside out. And you absolutely ache for them to be there with you. It's the time when it's worst for you to be alone, because you're so aware of you're aloneness, when everyone else is sleeping, and you're lying awake next to an empty space. Love this song. |
Taylor Swift – Tim McGraw Lyrics | 15 years ago |
the "secret message" in the lyrics of this song spells out "Can't Tell Me Nothin'", so i'm guessing that's her favorite Tim McGraw song. |
