The lyrics seem to indicate the narrator wants to prevent the sun from rising, to preserve the moment. But time moves forward, and stringing those loving moments together is the best we can hope for.

The best line is the first in that case: "You looked like the sun", meaning that each new day begins by waking to you.

Josh has outdone himself with this album.

This is ana amazing song, but I think it's bitter as much as it it sweet. By saying that she is the sunshine- "You looked like the sun"- and then saying that the sunrise tried to end it- "the sunrise tried to end it while we tried to stay"- he's saying that she was the one who caused the end of the relationship, maybe unwittingly. All his heartaches have brought him back to her, but she doesn't- or maybe can't- want him.

This is such a beautiful song. I can't imagine having someone feel about me the way he does about her. Personally, I feel like they are still together and happy and the heartaches he refers to are those that he experienced before he knew her. Although things that made him happy in the past ended, it was only for a better thing in the end.

This is the best song on Josh's new album.

For me, I kind of feel that he's looking back on that perfect night and reflecting on how that was the high point of his life. Looking back brings him heartache because he's still in love with her, but the heartache is worth it because they bring him memories of her.

The first verse uses past tense to show that it's in the past. The second verse after the chorus uses present tense because he's IN that memory.

That's just my take on it.

To me this song is saying that all of the heart aches that he has been to had brought him to her and they were all worth it because without then he wouldn't be with her.

My sister asked me to sing at her wedding next year and she gave me this song to consider, and I fell in love with it almost immediately. It's so sweet, so honest, and so full of bliss. It's about realizing that all the pain and heartache that life puts you through is so that you can fully appreciate finding the right person.

This song emits the idea that everything bad (or simply hard) that happens in life is for a reason, it is all preparing you and shaping you. When you find someone who makes you so happy and so complete, the hardships don't matter as much anymore, and you don't want to let that go. The night when you realize and celebrate that must be incredible.
