Ryan Adams – I See Monsters Lyrics
|
I think this song could be ambiguous and relate to drugs, if we recall the dark times in which it was written and recorded.
As mentioned already, - to me - the song is about this guy who is in a relationship in which he knows "that she's the one" and yet he's scared, he communicates his deepest thoughts with her when she's "fast asleep" and "far away at the speed of sound", and he talks to her at these deep hours of the night and tells her all that is on his mind and how he truly feels.
He's indicated that when he's with her, he feels safe, like he has everything and she makes him want to be a better person, because he admits that he needs to work harder for them. However, something keeps getting in the way (possibly, himself) and it's keeping in trapped in his own self-destructive cycle. -- "Still I see monsters" |

Ryan Adams – Evergreen Lyrics

This song is about Mandy Moore, I would imagine it was written a few months before they got engaged.
IMO the best lines in the song - 'It might be easy to judge all that kindness/If you had grown accustomed to the darkness in the light'
= This line is talking about how you can go most of your life learning reasons to distrust people, constantly being let down, being so un-assured, hating yourself, blaming yourself for whatever darkness you find yourself in -- and so when you find the right person, it's easy to be weary and it's understandable to take some time before you can honestly let yourself believe that it's right. But as stated, 'any room with a view of other windows' will have a door that you can leave from, so for as long as you spend looking at other people's happiness, convincing yourself that you're never going to feel that way about someone, all you have to do is leave from the door and you'll be there too (it's up to YOU to realise what you've got with someone). |

Coldplay – Princess of China Lyrics

The princess in the title really is a reference to how one regards anyone they love so much, and value so highly.
More interestingly is the word 'china' which I think is being used ambiguously and refers to the way in which china dolls and china plates, etc. are so fragile, so easily damaged |

Can't bring myself to listen to the studio version of this, much prefer the acoustic.
Anyway... this song might be about a relationship that fell apart. "Somebody ran" because they were scared, and -possibly- hurt. Yet, even after all this time they're thinking of each other. The second verse confirms this with the lines "once upon a time we fell apart."
Rihanna's first verse which contains the lines "all we ever seem to do is fight" adds further evidence to this theory that their relationship was self-destructive.
The "Could've been a princess" part is all 'what ifs' and hypotheticals. The dreams they had when they were together that were never realised.
And then the end is just haunting, they both realise that the relationship didn't work, and yet at the same time, they still love each other more than some people can even understand.
"You really hurt me.... you really hurt me...." is tragic. |

Coldplay – Only Superstition Lyrics

I think this song hints at this guy being very a very paranoid and nervous person; but he is in love, and both him and his lover are telling him that "it's only your imagination." But his insecurity and jealousy are getting the better of him, and he needs help.
Ironically, this was the song I was listening to the night my life fell apart. |

Ryan Adams – Rock N Roll Lyrics
|
I love the juxtaposition of this song against the rest of the album... the lyrics are talking about 'Rock n Roll', the madness, being out on the road with the band, whatever...
and he's so sad. I would speculate there is a reference to Carrie Hamilton in there... she died a little while before this album was recorded and I think Courtney Love's "I miss my best friend..." at the end is very relevant, very haunting. She and Ryan share something in common in that they've both lost people they loved to a point of pain. |

I haven't much to write about interpretation, but I know she has cited Kerouac's 'On the road' as an influence to writing this song. |

Mentat - It's a widely accepted variation in grammar, mostly used in Olde English Literature "no bonds can ever tempt me from she".
If the line was "No bonds can ever tempt me from her" it just wouldn't be as poetic.. |

Ryan (while with WT) said in an interview at World Café that he had the idea for this song after searching his ex-girlfriends' attic and finding some letters hidden away in a desk that belonged to her Mother. Her lover, died in WW2 and she never got over it, as many of you have already said. |

Ryan Adams – Tomorrow Lyrics

This song was co-written by Carrie Hamilton, a close friend of Ryan's who worked on the 2003 album "Demolition" with him. Sadly, CC passed away before the album was released and Ryan was heartbroken. I think this song was written at the time Carrie was dying, the two lovers parting ways... tragic.

This song is sad... very sad... it's about change, change for the worse that Ryan seems to claim he'll never get used to. He wrote this song for Carrie Hamilton, his close friend who contributed a lot to the writing on "Demoltion". He was heartbroken and dedicated most of the album and his next two Eps "Love Is Hell pts1 and 2" to her. |

This song was written about Beth Orton, a musician Ryan worked with around 2002, along with Carrie Hamilton, who contributed to a few songs on "Demolition". He says this song was to Beth commenting on whatever happened, she'd always mean the same to him. |
