This is definately one of my favorite Ryan Adams songs. It's simple yet creative and beautiful at the same time. This song, to me, is a song of hope and reasurrance. It seems as though he's run into some trouble in a certain relationship. What he's basically saying is that whatever happens, in the end she'll still be the same, wonderful girl he's always known.
He wrote the song for/about beth orton. He's basically saying that regardless of what happens in this world, she will always be the same to him.

I remember when I first heard this song on Demolition a few years ago. From the simple yet powerful lyrics to the background rolling bassline make this one of his greatest pieces. I just graduated from university not to long ago, and this song really helped me get through the new changes in my life.

This song was written about Beth Orton, a musician Ryan worked with around 2002, along with Carrie Hamilton, who contributed to a few songs on "Demolition". He says this song was to Beth commenting on whatever happened, she'd always mean the same to him.
From Ryan in 2002, "The best song ever written about Beth Orton. And I've written several. I was in Stockholm on tour with her, straight after we'd recorded 'Brown Sugar' for the 'Uncut' Rolling Stones CD. I recorded nine songs in one sessionwhile we were there and this was one of them. I was listening to Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell and a lot of stuff like that. I think the sentiment is lovely. What I was saying was that the world can get fucked up as hell, but you will always mean the same thing to me."
