Paper Route – Tearing The House Down Lyrics
| 12 years ago
|
Because of the elements of Christianity in their songs, and because my own Christian belief, my immediate interpretation is a heavily spiritual one.
It is obvious that the writer/singer is going through a difficult time, and I believe that this pain that makes him feel "like [he's] dying" is either his spiritual struggle to find his completion, or his reconciling of the sin of the world with the life of a follower of Christ. This idea is highlighted by the line "there's a place that burns for something else"-- it seems to me that he is aware of the fact that something is fighting against him. He continues to "keep on lookin' here", which includes looking at other people ("you call this a home? I'd rather be dyin'"), who seem to have the same lack of answers that he has. He is frantic at understanding this pain, and is eager for anyone's remedy ("look at me, a knock at the door, I'll always come runnin'").
Although the conflict is never resolved in the song, optimism wins with his continued endeavor to seek out either the God he has called upon in the earlier verse or some other similarly divine answer. |

Switchfoot – Vice Verses Lyrics

The way I understand it as a Christian, the blessings or the good times that God gives us are not "end-all" periods of infinite happiness. We live in a fallen world, a one corrupted by sin that wars agaisnt regeneration-- as long as we live by the Spirit, we will still feel the tension and pull of our opposite nature. Receiving and acknowledging the benefits of our union with Christ directly puts us at odds with the world.
I hope that sort of made sense :) |

no one seems to like the songs I like... this one is so easy on the ears and it talks about God's grace to stay with an unfaithful servant and the individual's resulting praise. |

HideNothing, I share your frustration in the uncertainty of what Dave is yelling... I've seen other lyrics in which people believe he's saying something along the lines of "You're right, It'll be alright" etc. But one can only guess =/ |

in the technical sense, they are a secular band with Christian member(s). but anywhoo, it's a good ending to the album.. didn't know it was speaking of Revelation until I read these lyrics. pretty cool. |

I think Coldplay has extrapolated on a trend that is not at all foreign to what they've done past - and that is creating good music. Enough said. |

well of course claiming something doesn't make you something. however, I think you can make a pretty good assumption that the band members are creating their lyrics from some sort of Christian base because of the spiritual death. no one is throwing around Bible trivia here, and if you claim that the Bible is useless, no ratio of show and tell would make a difference to you anyway. |

and who are you to tell him what to do. the fact of the matter is, BenefitOfTheDoubt said nothing wrong and for you to get worked up, let alone cuss at him, exposes more of your character than his. if you have any moral integrity and remote intellect, you would apologize and shutup and take your verbal filth somewhere more accepting.
oh and good song by the way. |
