Embers and Envelopes (2008) Lyrics
I still write to apologize and ask to look at life.
It has passed us by.
I know you have sacrificed time, life, and love.
Now it’s time to fly.
Please consider nothing trite.
Forgiveness will be the thing that will get us by.
I know to have something like this, broken, it’s hard to fix.
Embers, we’re burning bridges down.
Envelopes, stuffed with feelings found.
To write this down is means to reconcile.
To write this down is means to reconcile.
We write to patch things up.
Agree to disagree, then to proclaim love.
Let’s look ahead, and then we’ll see the path, and for us this is where it ends.
So based on that we’ll see the change has come in, come in constantly.
I know to have something like this, broken, it’s so hard to fix.
Embers, we’re burning bridges down.
Envelopes, stuffed with feelings found.
To write this down is means to reconcile.
(x3)
If all is said and done and over,
if we don’t have to, then we’re not going to.
Make the change, ‘cause it’s worth the try.
What’s broken can be fixed tonight.
It has passed us by.
I know you have sacrificed time, life, and love.
Now it’s time to fly.
Forgiveness will be the thing that will get us by.

Envelopes, stuffed with feelings found.

This song is the most amazing song I've ever heard. It sounds like magic... like love. It's not at all like the original, which is a great thing because I thought that the original version was a little bit plain. What I found strange strange was that they took the religious reference of the original version out of the song. "Let's look ahead and then we'll see the One whose glory never ends" was changed to "Let's look ahead and then we'll see the path, and for us this is where it ends." I wonder why..
cause the music business ate him up.. the angel of music(haha..) conquered his mind. =.= well.. He gets more money! good for him, huh?

Its pretty good... still getting used to it, but i like it so far. different from the orig version. takes some use to.
rats, I was hoping to add these lyrics. early bird gets the worm I guess. like the song, but not as good as the original methinks.
This version is so different from the original and this is my first time hearing it, but I'll always love Embers and Envelopes! ^_^
I like the original better....probably because it was one of the few Mae songs with a religious reference...but it's still a very good song nonetheless.
it just takes time getting used to but the song really grows on you. i think it's a really, really good remake of the song. it's more soulful and alive than the original version.
I really like this version. The first one was never my favorite song by them (even though I do like it a lot) so I like that they did something new with it and the little lyric changes. I think maybe they took out the religious reference so it wasn't aimed towards just religion and more people could relate to it (because I know they don't want to be considered a Christian band). I also think it was the first song they wrote/recorded as a band so it's sort of looking at their past and looking ahead.
I like it better without the religious reference. I think this version sounds a bit noisy, but the vocals are so much better. It sounds so much more mature.
I say.. what a bad cover-up.. They're trying too hard to not be Christian now. It's slightly irritating.. Whatever pleases the fans, I suppose.
Mm.. It's like if Chevelle re-did Point #1 or Grab Thy Hand and in Grab Thy hand he replaces "God, How I long to grab thy hand" with "Friend, How I long to grab thy wrist" or something.. That is how dumb this feels to me right now. =/
