Nah, what I hear is: There's blood on the tracks again Do you buy Buy what you're selling them? |

| Allison Crowe – Lisa's Song Lyrics | 4 years ago |
| The song is about the disappearance of Lisa Marie Young, who was a friend of Allison\'s. Lisa went missing in 2002 after taking a ride with an unknown man. She is believed to have been killed, though her body has not been found to date.\n\nI need to say that this song struck a chord every single time ever since the very first listen although I couldn\'t figure out the exact meaning for a very long time. What I was turning in my head was revolving around caring after a child or something similar but I just couldn\'t quite make it out. Today I stumbled upon a note on Young\'s disappearance and finally understood the underlying story. All pieces fell into place and now I can see why the song has always felt so touching and emotional. Tragic as the story is, the song is an absolutely amazing piece of art. | |
| Lacey Sturm – Roxanne (The Police cover) Lyrics | 4 years ago |
| Originally the song is about a man\'s love for a prostitute. Here this meaning is altered by the added verses which indicate that it\'s actually about God\'s love for a woman, whose heart is broken and devastated and who sells her body. That love is unconditional, incessant and unbreakable.\n\nIncredible rendition of the song. While the original is light and somewhat funky in style, Lacey\'s version is much heavier, darker and yet inexplicably tender, affectionate even. The screaming carries so much emotion, it\'s like a wake-up call of "Come on, girl! I\'m here to change your life and deliver you from this darkness, just hear me!". | |
| Flyleaf – Cage On The Ground Lyrics | 4 years ago |
| @[scg10:39618] Just listening to this album for the first time (well, third, but just started today :D) and it gave me chills when I connected this to Lacey's leaving the band just before the release of New Horizons. | |
| Alanis Morissette – Head Over Feet Lyrics | 8 years ago |
| @[Mesha:19220] When I read a comment like this from 15 years ago I can't help but wonder how it turned out in the end. Ehh... :) | |
| Allison Crowe – Montreal Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| You could say: "Just a love song", but that would not give justice to this piece! | |
| Allison Crowe – Hallelujah Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| And she is making it as an independent artist :) She publishes her songs on Jamendo and Last.fm for free. God, I'm sooooo glad I stumbled upon her on Jamendo! That's like one of the greatest music discoveries of my life! | |
| Dropbox – I feel fine Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| The way Kosco screams "I feel fine!" at the end makes it pretty clear that he's just trying to shout himself into believing he's all right but he's failing at it entirely. | |
| Allison Crowe – Choose to Be Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Oh, it's a beautiful break-free song :) She's stuck in some kind of an internal world, confined within some walls. This might be her outlook on life (e.g. excessive cynicism) or a family situation (e.g. an overprotective mother) or just a state of mind (e.g. low spirits). She's not even aware of how oppressed she is within these walls, in this situation. Then someone comes along and, with his outsider perspective, immediately sees that something is wrong with her and decides to lend her a helping hand. The song is about deciding to break free from the chains preventing you from living, from being happy, from deciding for yourself. It's about your decision to BE rather than to merely exist. | |
| No, Really – Citizen, Go Back to Sleep Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I guess privacy and invigilation by federal (or whatever) officials is a big issue in the USA. Not really relevant in my country (as of yet, and hopefully never) but still the ingenuity of the lyrics surprises me :) | |
| No, Really – Rust Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Sounds like a revenge song, quite obviously. The thing is that the contrast between the lyrics and the beautiful, almost angelic voice, is pretty stunning. | |
| Allison Crowe – Disease Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Sounds like a severe psychological disorder that no one seems to treat seriously ('they told me to disappear / and slowly dive / into the shallow end / of the gene pool'). And this song is infectious, I must say. | |
| Alanis Morissette – Your House Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I don't think she's stalking him. Missing him terribly would be a better term. | |
| Dropbox – End OF Days Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| No, I've been in love with their music since the very first listening. A couple of years back. Gooooood stuff! :) | |
| Happysad – Hymn 78 Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Probably because it's in Polish :) | |
| Alanis Morissette – Baba Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| No, not really. It only criticises blind faith and manipulation, not religion in general. It's probably aimed at destructive cults, to be more specific. | |
| Within Temptation – Aquarius Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Yeah, that's exactly why I said I would be very surprised if they turned out not to be neopagans, or at least connected with neopaganism in some way. I've never seen any explicit statement of their religious beliefs, but the clues you have mentioned still give me 99% of certainty ;) | |
| Within Temptation – Aquarius Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
How about yet another perspective? We've already had the astrological interpretation from rhonetheronin, but I'd like to draw your attention to something a bit further. Ever heard of this funny New Age movement? The alleged shift from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius? Does it ring a bell? I'm not saying this is the correct interpretation. I'm not even 100% sure that WT members are involved in the neopagan movement, but I would be very surprised if they turned out not to be. If I happen to be correct in this point, the remaining pieces of the puzzle fall into place automatically. This perspective somehow seems logical to me, especially in the context of other WT songs and the genre they utilise (which has strong associations with mysticism, paganism, etc.). Which is actually a shame, since I like the band and their music, though they are not at all ideologically compatible with me. |

| Patty Griffin – Tony Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Wow, the lyrics and the melody, the way it's sung create a somewhat weird feeling. The story is definitely sad, yet if you listen to the melody alone you will probably hear that it is somehow... I'm not sure - joyful, perhaps? Strange. But it's a great song, anyway :) |
|
| The Cranberries – Never Grow Old Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Or it might just be about one of Dolores' children - as simple as that ;) Still, the 'inner child' interpretation is pretty interesting - I never thought about it this way. | |
| My Ruin – Rockstar Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| When I read the lyrics I somehow imagined this would be an intimate, heart-touching song. It turned out to be pretty heavy. However, the pain of loss is there all the same. Good song. Good tribute. | |
| Sevendust – Follow (feat. Aaron Lewis) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I've been writing a term paper on sects (or destructive cults, if you prefer) recently and suddenly it dawned on me (Oh yeah, I had an illumination! Hear me now! ;D) that this song might be about such groups. If you read a little bit about how sects recruit new members, how they are brainwashed and led blindly, you may see that the lyrics somehow resemble this. I'm not really bent on proving my point here - just throwing an idea and what you do with it is up to you. Anyway, it's a great song and 7Dust rocks! |
|
| Limp Bizkit – Forever Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Who said that a tribute song has to be touching? No one. That's the way Fred Durst decided to honour Lynn Strait, so just listen to it or ignore it if you prefer. You know, it's like Durst is trying to tell all the people around to stop babbling and reflect a bit on what happened and what could possibly be learned from this tragedy. | |
| Sevendust – Honesty Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Yeah and probably the relationship went bust because of something he had said. Look at the lines in the 2nd verse: 'I guess you finally took the deepest cut I guess the blade on my tongue was just too much Every word that I said came from my dark side' 'The blade on my tongue' is pretty evident. Sometimes it's said that words can hurt more than a blade. |
|
| Riverside – I Turned You Down Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Seems like he's made a terrible mistake by separating from someone who had been close to him previously. Somehow it brings to me a thought of a relationship in which the guy realises that it is not what he needs and what he seeks in life. But when he tells his girlfriend that he's leaving, she tells him something important, perhaps that she is expecting a child (his child!) and this changes the whole perspective to him. Still what's been said has been said and now it causes a lot of pain to both of them. |
|
| Riverside – 02 Panic Room Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I've read an interview with those guys somewhere and the singer said something about a computer game (I'm not sure - perhaps Silent Hill or Alone in the Dark?) in which the room 302 was somehow significant. He was referring to this in the song. | |
| The Cranberries – Stars Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Yes, it's just you. This is a very Cranberry-ish (means: good!) song :) | |
| The Cranberries – You And Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Yeah, so did I :D Or "Dear lover" or something like that. | |
| Morcheeba – Rome Wasn't Built In A Day Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Cool :) Soooooo positive! | |
| Alanis Morissette – Doth I Protest Too Much Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| It seems to me that you've got a point here :) | |
| P.O.D. – It Can't Rain Everyday Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Oh, I believe it's actually both. First she becomes pregnant and then loses her child. | |
| Soulfly – Tree of Pain (feat. Asha Rabouin & Richie Cavalera) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| You really don't know? Dana 'D-Low' Wells was Max Cavalera's stepson and great friend. He died in what was supposed to be a car accident, but most people believe he was actually killed. Many Soulfly songs are dedicated to Dana. | |
| Des'ree – Life Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| ^ I guess it was supposed to be that kind of simplistic piece of lyrics :P | |
| Soulfly – Umbabarauma (Jorge Ben Jor cover feat. Los Hooligans) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Hm, I've just discovered this is actually a cover. Originally, this song is by Jorge Ben. You can find it on YouTube with a nice video. | |
| Soulfly – L.O.T.M. Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I dislike this song for the too simplistic (or primitive, if you prefer) way Max sings. If I were to pick the worst song on the album, this would be the first (and probably only) choice. | |
| Soulfly – Carved Inside Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Being yourself and finding some truth and peace of mind? | |
| Kelly Clarkson – Never Again Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I'm not quite fond of pop, but this song is pretty good. And, as someone pointed out, brings Alanis Morissette's 'You Oughta Know' to mind (though Alanis is way better of course). | |
| Alter Bridge – Broken Wings Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Ok, let me give it a try. "Fight the fight alone When the world is full of victims Dims a fading light in our souls" -> It's a difficult thing to stay strong and keep on fighting the world and trying to make it a better place, especially when a lot of people have given up -- this makes you feel like the fight is pointless and makes want to surrender too. "Leave the peace alone How we all are slowly changing Dims a fading light in our souls" -> I'm not really sure about this one but I think it could relate to how we change our perspective on such things as peace, war, etc. "In my opinion seeing is to know The things we hold are always first to go And who's to say we won't end up alone?" -> The things you care most of are most likely to be lost. And who can assure you that you will not be alone, without anyone to help you out, in the end? "On broken wings I'm falling And it won't be long The skin on me is burning By the fires of the sun On skinned knees I'm bleeding And it won't be long I've got to find that meaning And I'll search for so long" -> Ahh... :) The message here is that although you may fail, break down and have no hope for improvement, you should never stop stop searching for something ("that meaning") that can make your suffering worthwile. I mean: you try to help people around you but something unexpected happens and you end up in a hopeless situation. You should not give up, no matter how bad the situation is, because your wings may be broken, skin burnt and knees bleeding but "it won't be long" and you will find something to lift you up. And the last line of the chorus states that you should look for it for as long as necessary -- until you find it. "Cry ourselves to sleep We will sleep alone forever Will you lay me down? In the same place with all I love Mend the broken homes Care for them, they are our brothers Save the fading light in our souls" -> This is also not very clear to me but it also has some notion of not giving up (accepting the bad situation) and of helping others, so that you can save the hope in their souls. "In my opinion seeing is to know What you give will always carry you And who's to say we won't survive it too?" -> This one, in turn, I'm quite sure of. What you do for others is the thing that you will never lose, no matter what happens. That is: whatever good you, can not be taken away from you, so if you are a good man, you will always have something to hold on to. Hm, this may be some way off the real meaning, but at least that's what I see in the song. |
|
| The Cranberries – Forever Yellow Skies Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Ah, yes, this is one of their best songs. The lyrics are surprising, since at the beginning you only hear 'Forever Forever I'll be Forever holding you' and only at the very end of the chorus she adds 'Responsible' which changes the meaning into the exactly opposite. And yes, it makes you want to dance :) |
|
| Seether – Tongue Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Yes, you're all right. This song is very depressing (just as virtually any other Seether song). However, I would like to show you something different. Don't you think that the chorus is actually quite optimistic? At least I've always seen it as full of hope and determination: "And if I can rise above this I'll be saved Can anybody save me?" It I can get over all the bad things and not let them affect me any more, then I will be able to get on with this life. And can anyone else do it for me? No, I have to do it myself. I haven't figured out the second part of the chorus to fit this interpretation but still this is the way I've always looked at the song. And the quoted lines are so optimistic that they make up for all the negativity Seether can force into their lyrics. |

| Alanis Morissette – Ironic Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Ok, I see your point but still I can't agree. Fine, being stuck in a traffic jam would be ironic if you were a town planner, as this quote describes. But still the situation from the song appears as ironic to me because you would expect (at least I would) gettin in place quickly and without any problems if you were alrady late. Fine, the thing about the wedding you pointed out would be even more ironic than the one described in the song, but still the latter is pretty ironic to me. As I wrote in the previous comment: you expect everything (weather included) to be perfect, since it's your most happy day. And then you get rain instead of sun. Let's take the first picture from the song. The old lottery winner. You would expect him to be happy after that and at least give the money to his children, if he couldn't use it himself. But no, he dies the next day. Sad, but still ironic (in the 'life irony' sense, of course). Take this free ride in the chorus. Somebody tells you could've had a free ride. What would you think? 'Now, when I've already paid?!' Being at the chorus, let's take a look at the good advice. You didn't take it, because you most probably thought to yourself 'No, I know better and this piece of advice is no use'. And then, after some time, it turns out that you were wrong and it was the other person who actually knew better. And, please notice, my interpretation fits this part of the song: 'Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you When you think everything's okay and everything's going right And life has a funny way of helping you out when You think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up In your face ' It clearly (for me at least) shows you that everything can go exactly against your expectations (which fits the meaning of 'irony' I pointed out), either to make your situation worse or better. So, I still consider this song actually *full* of irony and, although I see your point, I don't think you can prove me wrong :P But everyone sticks to their own ways, huh? :) |
|
| Alanis Morissette – Ironic Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Oh God... This song actually *IS* PRETTY DAMN IRONIC :P No, Alanis does NOT misuse the word 'ironic'. Perhaps you guys don't know, but 'ironic' is not only 'sarcastic'. It can also mean 'something completely different than you would expect'. I guess this could be called 'life irony' or, as Terry84 put it, 'life's slap in the face'. (Check it in a good dictionary if you don't believe me. I can give you a reference if you want.) All the situations in the song are filled with irony. What would you expect on your wedding day? Beautiful sunny weather, which would suit your happiness. But instead you get rain, which is pretty ironic. And when you're late already? You're hoping for the streets to be empty so that you can get in place as soon as possible. But then you get stuck in a traffic jam. Irony. Perhaps the most ironic image in the whole song - she meets the man she has always dreamt of and thinks to herself 'Oh, how lucky I am! He's going to be mine!' and right after that he introduces his wife to her. Life irony at its best. And at the end of the song Alanis states that even if life can bring you down with such things it can also help you out in the least expected moment. |

| P.O.D. – Say Hello Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think this could be about the other side of your personality. Everybody has a 'bad guy' in them and this song is to tell you that you shouldn't be afraid of that. Just learn how to live with it and control it. | |
| P.O.D. – On the Grind (feat. Sick Jacken) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| For me this is the worst song on the Testify album. Chorus is fine and the part where P.O.D. singer is rapping is acceptable but the first part is just awful and ruins the whole song. I usually skip past this track while listening to the CD. | |
| Black – Wonderful Life Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Now, why should it be full of irony? I actually don't think it is. I think he is saying that life is beautiful and all you need to do is believe it. |
|
| Machine Head – Kick You When You're Down Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I guess the lines "so keep your head high cause they will always kick you when you’re down" summarize the whole song pretty well. |
|
| Alanis Morissette – Everything Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Hm... Yes, it could be about the fans. However, it could as well as that, be about a partner that accepts her just as she is. | |
| The Cranberries – Disappointment Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Hm, I always thought "the things you did there" was like saying he cheated and betrayed her and had a romance with someone else ("there" being the other girl's flat or any other place they met). But anyway, the song in general is about a broken realtionship, no doubt about this. | |
| Soulfly – Son Song (feat. Sean Lennon) Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Hahaha, Max singing about video games xD Great song, very touching. |
|
| Staind – Reply Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Clearly about and to Staind fans (yeah, to us :) ). It's sooo beautiful and the way he sings sends shivers down my spine. | |
