Underoath – Paper Lung Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is obviously about struggling to deal with somebody else in our lives who keeps bringing us down through his or her actions. It's about our need to understand that sometimes we cannot save people from themselves and we must walk away.

The song reveals that the singer can no longer take the lies and excuses given by the other person, and that they can no longer deal with the problems the person brings. The singer resolves to walk away and let the person fend for his or herself.

Good song, very tough subject matter. I admire Spencer for reminding us that we can't always save others and sometimes we are in danger of being dragged down with them if we try.

Lo-Pro – Sunday Lyrics 15 years ago
Pete talked about this song a bit. Can't remember where exactly, but I know this is what he said.

Sunday is about that growing sense of dread of the coming day. Sunday's the last day of the weekend and tomorrow you'll have to go back. He said it meant school when he was younger, work when he was older. Basically, it's a song lamenting the oncoming struggles of life and asserting that the speaker's life always feels like he's anticipating problems.

A Day to Remember – Holdin' It Down for the Underground Lyrics 16 years ago
Nobody's really taken a shot at the meaning, and it's pretty self-evident, but here goes anyways.

If this song had to be summed up in one word, it would probably be betrayal. The writer talks about how there are people working against them and how they don't think that the writer knows this. Also, the writer implies that they shouldn't have trusted people, and the second they turned their back, they regretted the choice to trust who they did.

The writer appears to be addressing somebody, and they seem to be marginally involved in the backstabbing, although it seems the writer has faith in the idea that maybe they weren't a central figure to it or largely responsible for it. He implores them to go back to a time when none of this was happening. The writer draws a line, asking the person to prove themselves by leaving with them, knowing that if they have to leave alone, then the person most likely did take sides against him.

Lo-Pro – Ignition Lyrics 16 years ago
This song sounds like it's about recovering from a difficult situation by rebuilding oneself and letting the past go. I get the feeling it's about a break-up, but that can't be positively proven from the context.

The speaker stresses that they're all alone again, but they're right inside.

Lo-Pro – Fake Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is about a speaker addressing somebody who lives their lives in a fake manner. The speaker suggests that the other person thinks they have "all the answers" and that they "step on everyone." Basically, the other person appears to be almost self-righteous, while at the same time living a life where they aren't actually being themselves. Like a lot of Lo-Pro songs, I kind of get the feeling that it was written for an ex.

Lo-Pro – Fuel Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is about a speaker addressing somebody else. The song doesn't make it clear whether it's a significant other or not. It is clear that both people have faults that need to be fixed, and a history that the speaker insists that they need to bury.

The speaker seems to comfort themselves by reassuring themselves that they're "Nothing like" the other person, but the song later reveals that this is just a pun. The speaker admits that they are "nothing," just like the person they're addressing.

Lo-Pro – Walk Away Lyrics 16 years ago
This song deals with a speaker who is running from a difficult experience. He wants to be able to face his problems without running.

The song talks about how the speaker has kept themselves from being vulnerable by creating a shell, and how they need to sit down and think for a moment so they can go back and face everything once more.

Lo-Pro – Thread Lyrics 16 years ago
This song's simply about dealing with the constant stream of trials and hurdles in your life. The speaker talks about how they get through a problem only to get confronted with another one. The problems tear at them and leave them vulnerable on the inside.

Lo-Pro – Oblivion Lyrics 16 years ago
This is a love/break-up ballad. The speaker uses metaphors to explain how incomplete their life is without their significant other.

"I can't sleep a wink
Can't shut you out
Can't even think
I can't look away
From the train wreck
Of mistakes"

Eventually the speaker reveals that the only way that they can overcome their problems is to get their lost love back.

"I am barely breathing
The grip around my neck
I am barely living
And I won't make it back
You, without you"

Overall, this is an awesome song. It's quite catchy and the lyrics are amazing. However, standing outside your ex's window with a radio would still be ill-advised.

Lo-Pro – Never Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this song is about an individual looking back at their life, regretting what they see. It appears they make excuses for themselves.

"Same old questions
Same old lies"

In the end, the speaker expresses a genuine desire for self-improvement.

"No goodbyes and I'm not living
With the same"

Lo-Pro – Reach Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this one's pretty obvious.

The speaker's talking about how they get away from the things in life that bother them by escaping into their head.

"I run away
But never have to go far
Cuz I know where I'll be (living in my head)
Far away from everything"

They go on to suggest that in their head they can affect the outcome of the difficult things that they're going through and modify reality.

"Up here again
I always win
Cuz I know a way
Cuz I know a place (living in my head)
Far away from everything"

All in all, it's a really cool song that speaks about the escapism we all experience in a way that we all can relate to. The song writing is really catchy and this one will be "living in your head" for a while. Sorry for the pun.

P.O.D. – Sleeping Awake Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is about both Christianity AND the Matrix. The Matrix itself is a distilled version of Existential Philosophy, which is highly compatible with Christianity and was used by Soren Kierkegaard to capture Christianity's main beliefs. Also, Plato's metaphor, The Cave, sounds hauntingly like The Matrix.

This relates to the experience both Neo and any Christian go through when they are presented with the Christian reality. They come to face that everything they've ever held to be true is just a loosely-held illusion.

I've actually heard conversion described quite often like being roused from sleeping in a dream-world. You never look at anything the same way again, which captures Neo's point of view perfectly.

As for the song being about Daniel, that's highly likely. There are a number of allusions in The Matrix to the book of Daniel, one of them being the name of Morpheus' ship, the Nebuchadnezzar. He was one of the kings that Daniel interpreted dreams for.

I always thought it was
"You can't see past my waving hands
Just grab it while you can"

I got the image of somebody drowning and another person trying to pull them up. I don't know why the full lyrics weren't printed.

Underoath – Desperate Times, Desperate Measures Lyrics 17 years ago
YES! It looks like they let Spencer write most of the lyrics again. Spence and Aaron as a team are amazing, but when Aaron tackles the lyrics by himself, the results can be less than spectacular like Chasing Safety. I love the musical direction they've been going in. They're losing their poppy influences and becoming true metalcore (nothing to be ashamed of when done well). The breakdown was also very tasteful and well-done. The adjustment period of fully incorporating Spencer was completed in Define leaving the band free to develop and create at their full potential.

However, as to the meaning of the song, I think it's just about reaching a point in your life where you look around and wonder how you got there. Spencer's lyrics are applicable to anything, not just drug use. Also, the song is a metaphor in this work. When he says "This might be my last one//It's gonna be good and hard//It might be a touch out of key" it's talking about the song like it's an event in life. Aaron even bends the tone of his voice when singing about being out of key, heightening the meaning. When the speaker realizes where they've gotten to in their life, they decide they are going to take a stand, and recognize that it might be futile.

Underoath – Down, Set, Go Lyrics 17 years ago
I really don't think this song has much of anything to do with sex. I have a couple of friends who restore cars and bikes as hobbies. It sounds like the singer is talking about a motorcycle when he says "She's a maverick, she's so smooth." Also, restoring stuff is good to do to help you cope with stuff. One of my friends restored a Ducati when his wife cheated on him and filed for divorce.

A lot of this song seems like escapism, and a motor hobby would clarify some of the more mysterious references. Also, this entire cd was written about Aaron's break-up, so most of the things mentioned probably are Aaron's personal experiences.

As Cities Burn – Empire Lyrics 17 years ago
I think the video does a good job of reinforcing the meaning. A man is building a tower of all of the great things that people value, and he realizes at the end that it didn't get him anything. He still amounted to nothing and had nobody.

The bad thing about being around people worse than us is that we get the impression that we are good people, even flawless people. That doesn't change anything in the end, though. God doesn't say "Well, you seem to have lived a good life when I put you up against your one neighbor who cheated on his wife and the other one who killed a man." It's better to be a bad person that acknowledges that and regrets it than to be a comparatively good person that's oblivious to the fact that they're just as accountable for their sin as everybody else.

In short, the only way to get to Heaven is on your knees. God makes it quite clear that no person in the history of humanity will ever get themselves into Heaven by their own deeds.

August Burns Red – A Shot Below the Belt Lyrics 18 years ago
Yet again, I believe ABR are campaigning for a better world. Their music sends the message of peace and understanding. They, I believe, are adamantly against the muteness and uncaring visage of the world. Basicly, it's what would be hailed as an idealistic emo message, presented in a non-whiny, virtuous sense.

August Burns Red – Barbarian Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with CK, but caution that understanding for others is the only way to live. God does not favor those who wage war in his name any more than he likes those who wage war against it. The problems plaguing the great nation of America are mainly centered around a lack of understanding, or a lack of a desire to understand others. August Burns Red seems like an idealistic band to me, always searching for a way where all can live.

I agree, but would also like to add that I believe that they are advising others to take up the cause of empathy. Think very carefully about how you would feel if you were another, and try to treat everybody as well as you can. In Dante's Inferno, Dante has pity for many of the sinners as he walks through Hell. People should be kind to eachother on Earth too.

August Burns Red – The Seventh Trumpet Lyrics 18 years ago
This one is easily written off as Revelation writing. They are quite obvious, even more so than Becoming the Archetype's songs. The stars falling is part of a prophecy. The seventh trumpet is the one that fortells the coming desolation. (One for every day?)

It kind of reminds me of the gardener in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. He was the gardener for Tom Riddle and his father. (The old man and his son?) People thought he was guilty of murdering them. There might be no connection, but HIL likes to write about literature. It wouldn't surprise me.

Underoath – A Moment Suspended in Time Lyrics 19 years ago
I think you have the wrong song. The one you are thinking of is "Moving for the Sake of Motion."

The real lyrics are:

Held captive, I'm a prisoner
In the back room where the water leaks and I'm oh, so cold
Command me on what to do, but we both know neither you or I are in control

There's nothing left for me here
I'm grabbing on to what's left of this hole. It's all too real this can't be happening

Never again, ever again, will I say I'm Ok

I'm scared of the fate that will become mine

No time to talk you know the drill
Under my desk this can't be it
I'm only dreaming, I've got to be dreaming
But I can't get up. No time to talk, not this time, this is my place
This is where I arrange
It's so funny how we see things so clear when we have no time left to live

So lay back now and take it is
I won't say a word I won't say anything

I can't believe how it feels
To stand here in this room
And feel like it's going to blow
I think we're all going to blow

I've got to be dreaming
We've got to be dreaming
Please don't wake me up
This is the end.

I really haven't thought much as to the meaning.
